The Simpsons House press release
Posted by Huw,
This news should silence all those who thought the images we saw last week were fake :)
BILLUND, Denmark (January 8, 2014) – The LEGO Group today announced a new partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products to produce a construction set and licensed LEGO minifigures inspired by the iconic television series, THE SIMPSONS. In addition, FOX is scheduled to air a special LEGO episode of THE SIMPSONS in May 2014 featuring Springfield and its cast of characters in LEGO form.
Scheduled to launch this February in LEGO stores and via the LEGO Shop at Home catalog and website, the construction set will recreate the iconic Simpsons family house in LEGO form. Also included in the LEGO and THE SIMPSONS construction set is the entire family: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie along with neighbor Ned Flanders. A separate line of 16 LEGO THE SIMPSONS minifigures will launch in all mass toy retailers in May 2014.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Fox during the 25th anniversary year of the Simpsons,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president licensing & entertainment at The LEGO Group. “We know our fans will love the challenge of building the Simpsons’ family home in great detail and the ability to collect quintessential characters in LEGO minifigure form will let them showcase their love of the show in a whole new way. We are also excited that THE SIMPSONS will be created in LEGO form, truly bringing this partnership to life.”
“We are kicking off the 25th anniversary of THE SIMPSONS in a big way, and we think LEGO-loving fans of the show will be impressed with this collaboration that represents the best of both iconic worlds through the LEGO and THE SIMPSONS construction set, minifigures and LEGO-themed episode,” said Jeffrey Godsick, president of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products. “Our partnership with LEGO is the perfect addition to the range of product lines that will be introduced globally in celebration of this great milestone achievement in television history.”
The LEGO THE SIMPSONS house will be available February 1st in LEGO retail outlets for $199.99 (USD). The line of LEGO THE SIMPSONS minfigures will launch in May 2014 in all major toy retailers for $3.99 (USD) each.

I believe the correct response here is... Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! *ahem* sorry! gloating over.
For now.
Just seen this on facebook! Not paying £179.99 for it though, I think I'd rather put it towards something else like The LEGO Movie sea cow or Benny's spaceship... :/
I'm sure everybody is now wondering what this VIP early access set is on the February sore calendar for the US! ;)
Whoa - stunning ! Check out those images....
Pricing isn't bad for a licensed set with over 2,500 pieces. The minifigure line is a 33% price increase, though.
Still, if the minifigure line is successful (and I can't imagine it won't be), I hope we'll see a Marvel Super-Heroes line, containing characters who are too minor to appear in sets - think Howard The Duck, Heimdall, Stan Lee etc. With the rate the CMF ranges come out, I could see TLG alternating - two licensed and two unlicensed each year.
$200 for a 2,500 piece set is an excellent deal, relatively speaking. That's far more in line with a Creator-type set than a licensed property. Now I'm even more excited to get it!
I personally don't think The Simpsons is a good fit for LEGO and I don't really care about the Simpsons myself; but the house is amazing and the price is very reasonable.
I also noticed that Bart has a ball cap in his room. Can he wear a ball cap?
Love the detail of the Simpson House . . . but $199.99 is probably still too pricey.
But did anyone notice the price of the Simpsons minifigs . . . $3.99? What's up with the price increase?
Is this LEGO's first ever "doll-house" set, with fully kitted out rooms? Because I've never seen this amount of detail in a set before...
It looks like it could be a good set...
It's just I won't pay that much for a set I think is only good. =P
I'm completely against the Simpsons line, but I like the actual model.
But why does the first decent minifig scale house have to be Simpsons? Couldn't it be in a more diverse theme, like city, where it would appeal to everybody?
@SinKiller Nick, they are licenced so they cost more, though I'm not sure why the Lego Movie ones cost the same as the simpsons ones
The Minifigures have specially designed heads, ones that are much larger than regular minifig heads.
@ Coson, I have the Creator house from 2009, it was great to play with minifigures in, and it was a beautiful House :D
But mine Broke, I was only Eight when I got it :P
Yeah, .08 per piece is not bad at all (and on a licensed set!). Sounds like an investment quality set!
Up close the minifigs look even worse. The shape is fine and all, but I can't get over the horrible, disinterested half-shut eyes and Lisa's bizarre worried face. Only Flanders and Maggie look right. What gives?
I do, however, LOVE the use of a wiener as a night light in Bart's room. Clever!
*gasping for air*
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. The minifigures look better up close!
And i thought Lego couldn't get any more licensed.
Looks like the non Simpsons fans that say that this theme is unsuitable can eat their "fake" comments lol. This looks absoloutely lovely. February 1st can't come soon enough for me. What will price be in GBP?
Amazing price point for that. I'm figuring I can get some Simpsons fan sucker to pay $30 for the minifigs too, which means I can get the house for close to 6 cents a piece. WIN!
Ah just saw it at £179.99,oh well it what we were expecting,I will still get :)
At 179.99, they can keep it.
So... Does this mean the whole simpsons line will ONLY consist of the house and collectable minifigures? If so, it seems to me to be a very minor operation, unless more sets are due to surface later this year? Otherwise, the license for it must be unusually short.
@patch22
The minifigs are NOT awful. The faces are classic! Homer looks bored, something he does when Flanders is around, which he is now.
Marge is rolling her eyeballs, something she always does.
Bart is squinting his eyes because he's skateboarding.
And how is $200 too much? I was expecting $250.
@scogali
This is like a test run. If the house and cmfs do good, which I'm sure they will, they will make more for PROBABLY summer 2015.
I just want the physical house. I used to watch The Simpsons every night but now I hate it. I like the house but the colors inside are really bad...
@patch22
The lego movie cmfs don't cost more because the lego movie is lego.
@Popo123, it's just my opinon , you like them, I don't, LEGO can't make it appeal to everyone.
It's like my childhood is coming to life in Lego form. First TMNT, now Simpsons. As Homer would say, "Woohoo!" I don't know how ANYONE could say this is too expensive for what you get...it has a much better price per piece ratio of nearly every licensed set currently available.
Oh dear. No-one can moan that it's a hoax any more, but now we're all moaning at the price?!
It's massive, 2,500 bricks, and it's a licensed set. Wake up and smell the coffee everyone, £180 is a fantastic price!! Of course it's a lot of money, because it's a huge set.
It's got 600 pieces more than the Ewok village and is cheaper.
It's better value per piece than the latest Maersk ship.
It's better value per piece than the Sydney Opera House.
Everyone who's moaning, what price did you actually think a 2,500 piece set would be?
You all sound like you'd moan if they gave it to you free but charged you 5p for a carrier bag!
@Popo123, I heard that they will cost £2.49 instead of £1.99,I heard about it on Brickfanatics.
@Patch22 - The Lego Movie CM's were $3.49 here in Canada.
I'm disappointed with the price increase on the Simpsons CM's. Looks like us Canadians will have to shell out over $4 for them. I also assume the House will be $249 CDN.
And for all the haters - It's happening!!!
Good price. Buying it.
Shut up and take my hard earned money Lego!
Best thing about this for non-Simpsons fans: now we can realistically hope for Futurama.
@Zipsforbananas, but the Sydney opera House is a stunning set, and when compared to this there is a definite Winner.
You can get a modular building for less and they have much more detail, better Minifigures and better pieces.
Also about the carrier bag thing, my local WHSmiths charges me for a simple carrier bag :/
@Suckerpunch83, okay, thanks, I can only hope that they'll be £1.99, if there 1.99 I'll get most of them, if there
2.49 I'll get about half of them :D
Man, I'm writing so many comments on this :P
Love it, need it. Just perfect, both the house and the figs.
Still looks like a fake to me - not!
As far as The Simpsons is concerned, the house and characters are very good LEGO reresentations - any LEGO and Simpsons fan couldn't ask for more in my opinion.
For those that don't like The Simpsons... Buy something else. Simples
Definitely want. not too happy that the mini figs are going up in price but will get those too. Just don't know how many extra figs I'll buy for customization. If they make Sherri/Terri that's at least one.
@Patch22 - you can get modulars for less, but they aren't licensed, so you'd expect that. You wouldn't expect it to be better value per piece than the Sydney Opera House.
You may not like it, and that's fine, that's just a matter of taste.
But it's not poor value and it's not too expensive, that's just plain maths.
(All shops charge for carrier bags in Wales, I think England's getting it soon too.)
For the Canadians, This is on there facebook
"The set will retail US $199.99 - CA $229.99 - DE 199.99€ - UK £179.99 - DK 1,699.00 DKK *Euro pricing varies by country so please visit shop.LEGO.com for regional pricing in February"
@Zips, yes, but I don't really judge thing on price for piece, it just doesn't look like it's worth the money to me.
But the Sydney Opera house looks great, though I wish it was cheaper, so I might of had a chance to get it :/

I didn't think it would take too long to force an official statement out of LEGO, considering how viral the Eurobricks photos went. I think this is a great set and should do some pretty big numbers. I'm just bracing myself for the Australian price, and hoping it will be closer to AU$250...
^ I think it will be AU$280 like Red5 was, seems to be that price point. Recent drop in the exchange rate isnt going to help us either.
Huw- are we supposed to 'migrate' over to the new Brickset now? Your link to the set details page led to that of the new Brickset.
BTW, does anyone know what that green stick thing's supposed to be? It got it's own picture even, but I have no clue what it could be.
@lego613master
It's the radioactive stick from the opening sequence. It falls in homers shirt, then he takes it and throws it out the window.
Imagine for me in $NZ it will be $300 plus but I shall still be getting it as soon as it becomes available. Not a huge Simpson's fan as such but I love lego houses.
@popo123
You're probably right, but the first thing I thought of was the Inanimate Carbon Rod
I'm guessing that the $3.99 for The Simpsons CMF will just be for them due to the new head molds? Better be, it's bad enough for a poor-ish TFoL like me at $3.25-.50 per minifig with taxes.
On a side note, $200 for 2,500 pieces is pretty decent for a licensed set. Also, I wonder if Series 12 will come after The Simpsons CMF? One good thing about TS CMF is that I can finally take a well needed break from buying CMF. :P
I love the set, and the figs. Especially the new short sleeve/pants molded colors!
Set looks amazing, set price is great, $200 for that many pieces and a licensed set. Def. going to buy this set. Agree with others hoping the $3.99 is just for the Simpsons and they go back to $2.99.
"produce a construction set and licensed LEGO® minifigures inspired by the iconic television series".
Is it just me or does this sound like the set is a one-off? I really like the look of it but will never in a month of sundays have enough spare cash to spend on a toy.
I wish they had launched a full theme like Prince of Persia or TNMT with multiple sets across different price ranges. Will pick up some of the collectible minifigs but will have to let the house pass.
I've got over my original disappointment on the heads, and although I don't want them (and certainly won't be paying £3-4 for them), I'm totally okay with them now.
My thoughts on the house are the same: the model is just incredible, so much detail yet pretty spacious inside, with a ton of great parts. The price is surprisingly good too - I wouldn't describe it as "affordable", but considering it's licensed, and that it's as huge and detailed as it is, it's not a bad deal in my opinion.
@historynut
That was one of the initial rumors about Simpsons LEGO that hit the webs a couple months or so ago, that it would be one big house and a series of CMFs. It would definitely be nice to have a whole theme though, there are certainly a lot of memorable locations in Springfield that would do very well in LEGO form!
I'm absolutely getting this set!! I can't wait to see what characters the CMF series has! I'm assuming the $0.50 bump in CMF prices is due to the licensing costs, as other people have suggested...that and the fact that they'll pretty much all have unique head molds.
Super excited about this news!! This will be my first (and last, if my wife has anything to say about it!) $200+ set too!
I assume the increase in polybag price is due to unique head molds, but also maybe they increased those to make up for the cheap price of this large house?? They will cover their costs in one of the two, and I'm sure more people will buy this for $200 and pay a little extra for the CMFs compared to not wanting to spend $50 more and pay the same amount on the CMFs. So if you buy one of each CMF, you will pay an extra 16$, vs an extra 50$ for just the set (if it was the price we expected).
The set is huge and the interior makes up for the bland exterior. Definitely will have loads of stickers though, which would be essential for the feel of the set.
The aerial view of the interior definitely sells it for me. All those colors screams Simpsons.
Still a lot of money for this set, so I may end up getting it, but it won't be for a while. I have too many other exclusives to pick up.
I also find it a little strange for LEGO to license The Simpsons. But I think it really works. The show is rich in characters, places and stories. I think The Simpsons could be a very long term theme for LEGO. With the first set being announced being this large expensive set, its obvious they are catering this to the AFOL crowd which will trickle down into their kids hands while building. The folks who think The Simpsons is a bad show obviously haven't spent much time actually watching the show. It may not be educational, but its pretty tame compared to most cartoons. Many episodes end on a warm fuzzy note. Bashing this show is like saying the world of Harry Potter was not for suitable children. I see the Simpsons as a lot more wholesome than some of the other themes like LOTR and Bionicle so not sure where the protesting is coming from.
Looking forward to picking this one up, but I may end up passing on lots of smaller Simpsons based sets being an adult fan, I tend to go for the big sets released every year.
