Why do you make a new post for every little thing we find out about this set?
this set sounds pretty cool. i think i might buy it
Worthwhile detail and it's a must as it's such a momentous occasion. This is very worthy news and it's too big to be combined with other news,well that's my theory :)
This set is a big deal to fans of the show and to fans of LEGO. If you don't watch the show then you may not understand the hype, but you have to give credit to the Simpsons, they have been around for 25+ years now. I can't see how I will not buy at least 2 :)
What is that thing Maggie is holding?
It looks like the blackbird from the show's title sequence
Blackbird?
It's a power-drill
^ "Small bit of information"?! Have you seen the length of the press release and product details? It would be far too much to digest in one article.
I could also reply that I don't think it's necessary for some people to constantly comment and nitpick on every single thing...
Coson, This set is very important as it is a brilliant model for a brilliant show but I guess haters will always hate.
The details that Huw has posted is in a format not indifferent to previous sets such as The Tower of Orthanc, Red 5 X-Wing, Sydney Opera House, Ewok Village etc. etc.
There's far too many people that have a dislike to certain sets but just can't stomach the fact that someone else may be very interested and appreciate what Huw posts.

@yuffie
Agreed.
@coson
Because there's SO many hate comments- my stomach gets tied in knots when I read these about my favorite show. SO WHAT IF ITS OLD. ITS ONE OF THE MOST BELOVED SHOWS IN AMERICAN HISTORY. THIS SET IS GREAT!!!
Does this mean that this will be the only LEGO The Simpsons set, and all other products will be foil packets containing minifigures?
And I'm not coughing up $230 for this.
Alright. Look, I didn't want to spark up an entire conversation with one comment, but seriously, it's only one guys opinion.
Probably $359.99 in AUSTRALIA.
I really think they made a mistake with Marge's, Lisa's, Homer's and Bart's eyes, but it's a small point and hopefully the separately-available figures will be wide-eyed!
The tools in Homer's garage is interesting. Not sure how detail the car is.
Can we look forward to Futurama, Family Guy etc now? I want a Stewie! And Zoidberg. And Stan's boss. :) As for The Simpsons.. will probably wait for the CMFs so Lisa can join Jake & Elwood. Maggie's quite cute too. The house is very detailed and looks great as both a playset and a display piece for fans of the show but I'll probably pass and save up for the next Modular instead.
@YellowedWhitePieces
Same problem for me. The house is fine and all, I like some of the interior designs and clever piece usage, but the minifig's expressions totally kill it for me. They look so sarcastic and disinterested, and Lisa is worried for some odd reason. It really takes a lot of the wind out of my excitement
I was very worried about the quality of the characters' heads.
After checking out the new photos here on Brickset, I'm absolutely ecstatic! They look amazing. The only thing that makes this better is that it will be available in February—months earlier than predicted.
This will, without a doubt, be the first Lego theme from which I buy every set.
Earlier than predicted.....must have tooled up the China production facility faster than anticipated. Probably all pieces made there. That way when the bricks break, don't grip, smell funny it will seem like the real life of the Simpsons.
Set looks great as a whole. Would look nice as a display piece yet it has so much detail and play factor. Great set and will be interesting if there is more to come!
I'm somewhat bemused that some people think The Simpsons is some sort of show from hell....
I can't wait. As a long time fan of the show I'll be getting this and all of the Simpsons sets. No Snowball II or Santa's Little Helper, darn. I'm not digging the eyes. Other than Ned and Maggie their all wrong. Their should all be fully open and pointing forward (or maybe just slightly wall-eyed). Homer's eyes are what him should have at Moe's. Marge, Bart and Lisa are all off. I can't wait for better images of the interior.
@rainstorm26 - wow, what a racist comment....
I used to enjoy the Simpsons when I was younger, but for some reason don't like the mash up between it and Lego. I actually hope it fails. Same goes for Spongebob. I watch that show with my kids and we get many laughs out of it, but I just think Lego Spongebob and now Lego The Simpsons are beneath them. Lego to me is pure unbridled fun and positive energy. These shows are laced with sarcasm. It's a different vibe that I just don't think go well together. That's just my opinion.
It looks like a really good set, but the figures look so depressed...
Ambivalent about the set and theme as a whole but I'm not here to stoke the fires of that debate.
What interests me is that all of the images are computer renders, not a single one of them that has been released is a photo of actual ABS.
This set is Great. The life-size house is amazing. The price is reasonable...but, onli a question...Where is the "Bleeding Gums" Murphy Saxophone?
I think a few more pieces we could stay.
I definitely think this set is targeted at AFOLs - there are none of the large pieces that the child targeted buildings are made up of - you can tell the house is made out of hundreds of individual bricks.
In addition to that, I must say that the interiors are the best ever in a Lego set - it makes the modular interiors look sparse and plain!
This set is all about Lego giving AFOLs something awesome. Very impressed! Coming out a year after Orthanc and Ewok Village, I have to say, Lego are really taking notice of what some in the community have complained about.
Now, fingers crossed that the new Mos Eisley Cantina is a stunner!
No way it's going to stop me from buying it (cash in those VIP points, yay!), but they did have to rearrange the rooms in the house to get what they wanted in. They could have put another hinge in and put the series-accurate step-back over the garage to give more room, but they probably wanted to keep it at $200. Just a few small things iconic to the series I saw right off the bat that were missing (again, just nitpicking):
Pets? (mentioned already)
Lisa's saxophone (and we know it's available from Series 11 minifigs)
A donut for Homer (Probably will be available if LEGO does his power-plant workstation)
Corn drapes in the kitchen
Mmmm, Simpsons LEGOs......
@popo123, what did you think every one was going to like it? Of course not!
I don't understand why people keep replying to the people who don't like it. :/
Anyway I think Simpsons LEGO is still a bad Idea IMO.
Please stop replying to all my posts on here, it's taking me to long to write these comments on my tablet.
Did people even bother to reply to the people who hated Chima?
@Patch22 - with all due respect - don't post on topics about sets you don't like and don't intend to buy, leave it for the people who actually want to discuss it.
So, as I read it, this is not an exclusive to Lego.com and Lego-shops set? That's great!
@antsbull, I understand what you are saying but, It's just my opinion, but What I don't understand is why is it
The people who don't like who get all the replies, the must be the 8th time I've had to reply to people in the last two news articles :/
This will be one of the sets that I'll be giving a miss, it actually doesn't look bad except for the minifigures which all look a bit sad and tired for some reason. I'm just not that into the Simpsons anymore so it isn't one that really appeals.
For those that buy it I hope you love it, for those that don't I hope you get to buy a few other sets that you really enjoy :) happy building everyone!
@OTISsoft - a Lego Zoidberg? Now that would be truly special!
@mickitat
No, since it's a d2c set with over 2500 pieces, it's exclusive to shop @home and lego stores.
I like the house and the design and what it represents but Lego should have been doing this sort of set before now for City or Modular.
I realise what the The Simpsons represent but they hold no draw for me and I remember when they started, original art style and everything. The minifigures do nothing for me as their heads look all sorts of wrong but the bodies are great. No denying that is a very good representation of the licence and well done to Lego for doing such a good job to meet the owners desires. I just think that in doing so it puts the set on the fringe, in it's own category although that does not stop it from being a source of inspiration (and lovely parts) for many builders!
I really don't understand why lego would make this show into a set(s). Why? Is this remotely kid friendly? Well ANY of them get any of it? I won't. Frankly I hope these sets do poorly. Think if the great Coosuu projects that were 5 times more family friendly then this that got cancelled!
Yeah, Lego should focus on kid-friendly themes, like Star Wars, LOTR, Prince of Persia, PotC! :rolleyes:
I really hope this does not degenerate into another debate about what TLG should and should not do.
I am very much looking forward to the set. If you do not like the minifigs, sell them, keep the house, it's great!
I DON'T LIKE THE SIMPSONS THEREFORE EVERYONE SHOULD HATE THE SIMPSONS AND HATE LEGO FOR MAKING SIMPSONS SETS. THIS IS GOING TO RUIN A GIGANTIC WORLDWIDE TOY MANUFACTURER! HOW DARE THEY MAKE TOYS BASED OFF OF A CARTOON!!!!
That's what you whiners sound like.
I dislike several themes but I'm not wasting my time bitching about them, I just go and spend my time and my money elsewhere.
I bet you all are the same ones that complained that the TMNT line was ridiculous and would fail.
This set looks amazing. Any fan of this show, whether child or adult, will absolutely love it. Get over yourselves.
I just don't get it. Are they saying Booooo? Or Boooo-urns?
Official video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxCIXqYaSPU
Thnx! I was waiting for that!
Star Wars - a father kills the mother and then spends many years trying to kill his twin children all because of a religious war over who should rule the galaxy.
LotR - An ancient and powerful evil returns leading to massive battles where thousands upon thousands of people are hacked apart by each other.
Harry Potter - An orphan and other school children are hunted down and killed by an evil that killed his parents and is so bad even it's name has power.
The Simpsons - a dysfunctional family face many adventures and temptations but in the end they never kill anyone and always stick together and remain loyal and loving to each other and the rest of their community.
The heroism in the first three is exciting, but to me the morality of the Simpsons seems like a better thing for kids to emulate, the fact that in the show it's often hidden behind sarcasm, cynicism, Bart misbehaving or Homer doing something stupid while drinking alcohol just makes it a more effective delivery system.
Wow, Lego has been turning every geek's / 80s kids' dreams into reality: Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones, Toy Story, LOTR, Marvel & DC, BTTF and now The Simpsons. All of this without disrupting their main/classic themes -- heck, they even greatly improved them!
I thik we're in a super exciting era, the business is more than healthy, the community is growing, they seem to be listening to fans a lot (thanks to the web and social media, which they are embracing), they’ve been hiring AFOLs, they are even successful (alas!) with their girls-oriented theme, and I’m not even talking about the videos games, brand stores, numerous books and third-party stuff.
So I really don’t understand most of the negative reactions. I follow Brickset beause they do cover every tidbit of info, from leaked images to community events and, like today, to official press releases. It’s my go-to source for everything Lego, simple as that.
Anyway, I just hought I’d share my joy over this announcement. I’m a father of 3 and we’ll definitely be saving to buy this set (it may be our “Orthanc of 2014” if you see what I mean $$) and I'm sure we’ll all have lots of fun with it. Plus, we’ll be able to collect 16 different minifigs soon! These news bring some welcomed warmth on this freezing January.
Is there a list somewhere of the Simpsons minifigures that will be available? (Not the ones that comes with this set, the collectible ones)
This is one of the coolest sets I've seen in a long long time
@yuffie To think that if one product line fails then they would not attempt new product lines is preposterous. If this line fails perhaps they would be hesitant to also do a Family Guy or other sarcastic edgy product line, and I am fine with that.
^K'Nex has the Family Guy license, first and foremost. On top of that, Family Guy is in no way Family friendly which is what LEGO is all about. People can complain about Simpsons not being family friendly, but it is very tame compared to Family Guy and other recent adult oriented cartoons.
If this line fails or succeeds, I never see TLG doing a Family Guy theme. Much too vulgar for most audiences.
Stop bath mouthing this theme.
It's not really for 7 year olds. 10,11,12,13, year olds etc. that watch the simpsons will want this.
Collectors, and there's SSSOOOOOO many out there, will want this
I don't like duplo, but it's good for little kids to get into lego. I don't bad mouth it.
Please do not comment on how much you hate this set here anymore. It's very repetitive.
@popo123, I'm not a Teenager or A Adult, so i'm not really the target audience, but I don't think many 10-13 year olds
Will want this, But a lot of Adults and Teenagers will. So if you like the show and all, then I'm sure you'll love it, but I don't really watch the Simpsons and I just don't really like it, but I actually see more comments on here from people who like it.
@All Simpsons lovers. You don't want us to bash the Simpsons. The same can be said for the lovers of Chima, Ninjago, Hero Factory, TMNT, ect. "ninjasgo is stooopid." "chimma rip of ninjasgo an is stooopidir." "zero faktory rip of awesumz bioniklz." "TMNT lames kuz it ment 4 kidz."
These themes have nothing wrong with them, except it you don't like ninja, animals, ninja-animals, and robots. However, the Simpsons DO have some inappropiate content that worries prospective buyers like us.
"but wud about stah wahz an loawd of teh riggs an bla bla bla bla bla! its 2 VILENT 4 ar kidz!" Yes, it's violent. Yes you may not like sy-fy and fantasy and what-not. Simpsons is, by contrast, rude, crude, and obscure.
"but it haz a mohral sumwehr undah de funneh stufff, i tink." Would miners dig for diamonds if they have iron?
"WWWAAAAAHHHHH! you hurtz ar feeelingz!" Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I have a voice against the Simpsons, and I will use it.
@patch22
I'm 10. I want it. A bunch of kids in my class want it. Just saying......
Ps. Please DO NOT reply.
@emraldtiger
Yes, you do have an opinion. But you don't have to abuse it by making fun of what other people are saying.
If you like it get it if you don't don't. Not everyone is going to like all the same sets. Not all sets are kid friendly. You can also add Disney to the list of non kid friendly as in about 90% of there movies a parent is dead or gets killed. I'm close to 40 and still play with lego. I have built a biker gang and strip club out of official lego pieces, but I guess since the are not to everyone's liking lego should stop making bricks so adults can't make more grown up stuff. Yes I know most lego is for kids, but it's nice they make some sets for AFOL.
I have an opinion and it's it mine to voice . I will keep civil and polite, address my views fairly and allow others to say theirs without fear of abuse whichever way they lean.
At the end of the day I will let Lego know how I feel with my wallet.
This is not a productive discussion, but it is worth pointing out that, overwhelmingly, the people getting worked up are the Simpsons fans, not the detractors. And it is a fact that other themes have suffered at least as much badmouthing as the Simpsons. So... don't have a cow, man. If you look at it objectively, there are obvious reasons why some people dislike the theme: whether the Simpsons is "acceptable" or "appropriate" is a matter of opinion; whether it is CONTROVERSIAL is a matter of fact; in its long history there has in fact been extensive, well-documented controversy over the show. Whether the minifig heads are "hideous abominations" is a matter of opinion; that they are radically different in style and scale from regular minifig heads, meaning, e.g. we get an entire line of CMFs with no repurposable heads or hairpieces, is matter of FACT. Simpsons fans need to accept that this is a polarizing theme for these and other reasons and stop throwing hissy fits about the fact that not everyone loves it. WORST. THREAD. EVER.
@ninjagoyo
We're not having hissy fits. People are being rude, and as lost in translation said, if you don't like it, don't nitpick EVERYTHING.
Actually ninjagoyo, all us Simpsons fans are trying to do is point out the hypocrisy of everyone saying "oh this doesn't fit in with Lego's brand." It's too "edgy" and not family friendly, blah blah blah.
Frankly, The Simpsons haven't been "edgy" since 1992. Do any of the detractors actually watch The Simpsons? I doubt it.
And since everyone has a problem with The Simpsons, do they also have problems with the violent nature of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman, PotC, Man of Steel, Iron Man, the X-Men, Prince of Persia, Lone Ranger, etc?
Let's sit a 7-8 year old boy or girl down and let them watch Raiders of the Lost Ark or Temple of Doom. Let's let them watch a man pull another's man beating heart out of his chest. Let's watch ghostly spirits literally suck the life out of Nazis. Or how about we let them see Superman SNAP SOMEONE'S NECK. Or how about watching Wolverine do anything with those fancy claws of his? Hey what about that silly Lone Ranger movie? Yeah, that included several violent scenes, including a scene of a man CUTTING OUT AND EATING ANOTHER MAN'S HEART.
All of the detractors are entitled to their opinion, but the hypocrisy running through their comments is laughable, at best.
The way I see it, one person commented, so a bunch of people tried arguing, then some people started defending, and it turned out to be a horrible thread, though not the worst thread perhaps
I see we still have the same negative responses since the Simpson's theme was first rumored a year ago...
This set looks fantastic and much better than anyone of us could have imagined when the rumor of a house first hit the web many many months ago... At this point in time, the opinions of the content of the show are irrelevant...
Whether you like it or not, it is in fact the case, as comments here and the well-documented history of the Simpsons show, that there are people who have more of a problem with the vulgarity or adult themes or satire or what have you of the Simpsons than with the violence of those other franchises. It's not up to you people to decide whether that is hypocrisy or not, and whether people are allowed to express those opinions or not. I think the Firefly CUUSOO debate was much more on-point because it compared much more comparable action-ish franchises, and highlighted the possibility that TLG itself was being hypocritical in its standards... are Reavers really that much worse than zombies or blood-crazed cult killers or whatever? Here it is really an apples to oranges thing, I have not seen one Simpsons detractor making the case that they dislike it because it is too violent. A better comparison would be spongebob, which as a parent I consider much more objectionable than the Simpsons, at least than the early years of the Simpsons, which is all I'm familiar with as I have not watched lo this past decade plus. And again, many people, like me, are not objecting to the controversialness, but to the molded heads, and what is your reason for telling us we're not allowed to say that? I hate how they look and they are useless to my LEGO building needs, I see absolutely no reason they couldn't have been done as regular heads with new hairpieces, rather than as collectible action figure heads chopped off and stuck on minifig bodies, and no one can tell me differently. It bugs the heck out of me, I think it was a terrible choice by TLG, and I'm entitled to say it in a discussion about the set. They wasted who know how many millions on a bunch of new molds that will never be of use to any AFOL who is not a Simpsons fan. "Out of system" parts is a massive pet peeve of mine. We could be getting a spiky Bart hair, a super-beehive hair, a bald hair. With Friends they smartly made the minidoll hair compatible at least, they could have done a mini-Simp with compatible hair and I would have been okay with that. They could have made them as monolithic Duplo figs FFS, at least that would have some consistency with LEGO standards. ,But no, we are getting chopped-off Kenner doll heads (or Macfarlane or whoever it is that makes action figures these days, I could care less... why don't people who love these un-LEGO heads just buy those?) It's a great, innovative LEGO house set with crummy, derivative, un-LEGO minifigs. Deal with it. I hate the Ewoks and the Wookies too, by the way, but at least they have the excuse of being non-humans! If they were to redo Toy Story, they would probably use minidolls and that would be a better configuration for Woody et al, but those heads also sucked... but again, they weren't really representing humans per se. Keep in mind how disastrously the Toy Story sets sold, too. My local TRUs didn't get rid of the last of theirs until this past November! I believe the un-LEGO minifigs had to play a part in that. But apparently TLG learned nothing from that debacle. Many people want minifigs from LEGO, not gimpish little superdeformed action figures.
Just to clarify my previous comment... coson had made a comment (subsequently deleted) complaining about the fact that Huw had posted a separate article for this information and that there had been too many unnecessary articles about the Simpsons theme this week. My remark about nit-picking was in relation to that, questioning Huw's actions on his own site, not trying to stop anyone expressing their like or dislike of the set.
Right, now that's off my chest, let's get back to our regularly scheduled arguing... :-D
So where not meant to post here if we don't like LEGO Simpsons, then WHY do people post stuff about Chima being bad and it doesn't matter? :(
I think ninjagoyo put to much time into that comment.
I would not call the Simpsons "vulgar", but there are some episodes in the newer seasons that have content I don't think would be appropriate for children under 12, but LEGO doesn't realise that most people don't hold back on a set for it's age and will just think that's the build.
Plus the Simpsons isn't that vulgar if they show it a 6PM most of the time-
tl;dr
Not sure how reliable, but read somewhere the collectible series will be;
1- Homer (regular)
2- Marge (regular)
3- Bart (Sunday best)
4- Lisa (Sunday best)
5- Grampa
6- Milhouse
7- Itchy
8- Scratchy
9- Flanders (regular)
10- Wiggum
11- Mr Burns
12- Apu
13- Lenny
14- Carl
15- Moe
16- Sherri/Terri
To me this sounds quite good
[In an effort to distract from the fuss (I though ninjagoyo's first post was not far off spot on; sorry, I didn't read the second one! Paragraphs people...) here's another question:]
Shouldn't Bart's shirt be orange?
@jabbermabber
Itchy and Scratchy but no Krusty? Odd.
Also Sherri/Terri seem like a reach when there are more common kids like Nelson or Ralph
That sounds very plausible jabbermabber.......and it leaves the possiblity of there being a 2nd run, as some core characters are not there, like Smithers, Nelson, Ralph, Reverend Lovejoy, Comic Book Guy, Sideshow Bob, Barney. Not to mention they could alter the family characters, like doing a Mr. Plow Homer.
They could also do Haunted Treehouse of Horror family figures. I know that Kidrobot series 2 featured figures from the Halloween specials
I love the model, price looks good to me as well!
Don't like/dislike the Simpsons, certainly have enjoyed some shows over the last 2 decades, and not enjoyed just as many as well, so what.
The set looks bland from the outside, like many suburban houses, but the inside is full of treasures.
As I don't care about accuracy, I am not distracted by Marco's interpretation and LEGO's design requirements.
First day buy for me, whoopee ;-)
Which currency exchange rates do they use? This was advertised on the BBC website (yes, they actually did an article on this) and put a price of US$199 (£120). So where do they get £180 from?!
Hm. I can certainly see this being a collector's piece, but not at £180. Perhaps at Town Hall money, then yes.
@ darthdc, I was thinking the same thing. All the British prices for large licensed sets are generally well above what is reasonable to pay. Perhaps they use their own 'special' exchange rate. I have never seen their logic, but I do know European prices are VAT inclusive, whereas in the States their Sales Tax is bolted on top of the price when they purchase a set.
@arl100 that doesn't seem to be the fairest way to price things, as every state in the US has a different sales tax rate (or none if you buy through Amazon in some states).
@darthdc - welcome to the frustrating world of trying to fathom out TLG's pricing! There is the tax to think about, but far, far, far too often they just seem to change the currency sign and forget that the numbers should change too!
I've moaned about that a couple of times every time new sets are announced for the last year or so, I feel better for getting it off my chest again! :P
None of TLG's pricing makes sense. The British Pound is worth 1.6 USD, yet they price it 10 pounds less? That's the same as paying nearly $280 USD. The Euro is hovering around 1.35 USD, yet again...199 Euros, so you're paying $270 or so... You're getting robbed. You could probably save money having someone in the US buy it and ship it to you if you didn't want the box. Especially if you're in Australia, New Zealand, etc. Canada, you're around .8 to .9 USD, so you're about right lol.
Otherwise, I think this is a brilliant set, and am probably going to have to go out of my OT SW and Superheroes bubble and buy it.
Just like the last season of the show this Lego set looks wonderful. I really like how it opens up like the haunted house set. The price is a bit steep but you can see where the money goes and it sure is worth it.
I'm really tempted to buy this one.
I also like the little video clips Lego is making introducing the sets and with this one they even explained how much work had gone into making the characters and I think they did a great job. In fact all of these sets look even better in person then on video.
This looks to be a Simpsons year for me. Building this set and (at the end of this year) visiting Universal Studios Orlando with their wonderful Simpsons area.
Awesome!
... Funny thread too!
YOU GUYYYYYS!
:-)
Doh! Being such a big fan I will have to buy this set and a load of bricks from Bricklink too. I will need to make it look more accurate. No 2nd floor above back of the garage. The front door goes into the living room. The kitchen is where the living room should be. Lisa's bedroom is where Maggi's is. Just to name a 'few' errors. Great efforts, but being a perfectionist, I will need to extend.
A must have set!
I will have a try to order it and hope that it will be in Russian LEGO shops)
