NO GOATS!
Fun fact: Vikings did not actually wear horned helmets! Those originated in the operas of Richard Wagner.
Ooh that is beautiful
Waiting for better/more pictures for a full judgement, but the color looks nice. I'm kind of surprised they didn't reuse the female Viking hair combo from the Viking ship. I was hoping it would show up a couple more times since it is a beautiful piece.
God forbid they should have kept the use of dark brown instead of reddish brown. It would look much better and if there's something the Ideas designers can't stand is the idea of letting a set go unbutchered. It's the Medieval Blacksmith all over again. Argh.
Shame.
Well, at least it's only 130€. Could be worse. Will be worth getting once it inevitably goes on discount.
This gives me some 13th Warrior vibes.
Look VERY solid, and playable. FINALLY a good, minifigure based set!
Extremely impressed with how this turned out. The minifigures are really well done, and I'm very excited for all the new printed pieces there appears to be.
Awesome! I had no idea this was coming. It's right up my alley. Would have been cooler if they could have made Jonas Kramm's viking ship as well to go with it though.
the original looks better but at least price is not high
It looks amazing, but its too small for £140!
I really enjoy how this set turned out. The warmer colors are much more enticing for me—I can’t wait to see more photos!
Looks amazing and great value for money, i think we can all thanks Target for sponsoring this one and keeping the price down for us all.
Yep, this is for me. A bit small for a village, but it's a requirement for me to get this as a history nerd.
Yes this is lego ideas, not the 876th sitcom set!
Excellent price too.
Since this is based on Viking stuff and Skyrim is based on Viking stuff, this set reminds me of Skyrim.
Good thing i bought the marvel goat boat yesterday
I was honestly hoping to convince myself not to get this and the ship with midgaard serpent, but this looks freaking awesome. Damn you, Lego!
Oof... this or the tranquil garden... my wife will get me one for christmas... but which one?
I know! I'll get her whichever one she doesn't get me. She will love that!
Is that female viking braid hairpiece new? I don't recognize it, but it looks amazing

Dark Brown is still used here, just in addition to other browns. If you use dark brown exclusively you lose a lot of detail, especially in indirect lighting.
Looks to me like it needs more dragons...
For training purposes...
Wait £140 but $130?? What type of exchange is that?

$130 is probably before tax. Different between states.

Yes i believe that Viking ship is due to retire as well, and has been 40% off in UK so best to grab it while you can as it will look great with this set.

I would love to see a 40% discount in the USA!
Oh great, another display set. Wish they would resurrect the Vikings theme instead of making expensive behemoth sets.
Definitely interesting but need more details.
This seems more like an outpost than a village but it is great.
Looks good!
But I wish had more rocky terrain. Give it more height.
This is an immediate purchase for me, I'm excited.
I don't want to say 'disappointment' I don't know how to express my feelings, I apologize engiish is not my first language. But, I wish they went with the new more accurate viking helmet design rather than the horned helmet.
Anyway, I have the Creator 3-in-1 Viking Ship so this is going to be a very nice paring. Help boost that population a bit as well. Throw in a Thor and Loki just to be cheeky.
Now I can recreate scenes from The Northman!

I don't think either are new. The orange one I think is Autumn's hairpiece, but I can't tell with how blurry it is. The other hair piece is from the Dinosaur Hunter CMF. It doesn't appear in sets too often, but it has been around for years.
I'm really tired of Lego rubbing in the whole "for adults" thing in every press release and description.
We get it, adults can buy Lego. So can kids. It's not like a 16-year-old wouldn't be able to put this set together.
Wow--this looks great! They did a great job keeping it faithful to the design of the original model.
I'm a little bummed that the birds didn't make it into the final product, but I guess that was to be expected.
Love how they say "an ideal gift for history buffs" and then use historically inaccurate helmets.

They pretty much brighten every approved set. I kinda see the point: why build it if you can't see it.

Fun Fact: I'd have given the same fun fact if you hadn't beaten me to it!
Wish they'd gone with more of the Series 20 minifigure vikings, otherwise seems like a pretty decent set.

Congratulations on keeping up the tiresome whinging tradition for every ideas set.
Anyway. This looks awesome, great set, great figures and reasonable price for its size.
Needs an Antonio Banderas minifigure

Yes. This is not behemoth. This is reasonable from a price point of view. A theme would be nice but a set This size would likely be the flagship. A few smaller ones would be great. I am just glad it isn't $300+
Apparently the black parrots are making a comeback as ravens after 30 odd years. That is the most exciting thing for me. The printed viking carvings are good to see again too. I wonder what torsos they are using, I cannot quite make out if they are the Creator set torsos or not. The helmets are a bit of a disappointment, given the new Gjermundbu style ones have appeared in Dr Strange and City.
The pricing does look a bit odd but presumably it will be discounted in the UK, maybe they have built the ability to discount in. Although the PPP is already good but no doubt that means there are a lot of small parts.
For all the folks talking about the horned helmets vs. the more accurate spectacle helmets: both are included in the set. Obviously we see the horned helmets, but also I think we can see a spectacle helmet hidden in the forge under the pickaxe.
This, plus the fact that the new horned helmets also look to be in dark pearl gray means you can easy replace one with the other, or simply use both at the same time.
Also really like the new shields+the 1 (or maybe 2) new torsos we can see.
A pearl gold sausage!
Needs a ship full of Muppets singing "In the Navy"....
Ah yes, the infamous Viking War Goblet!

That green fish does NOT look edible.
Wow, this set is better than I was hoping for, and I already had pretty high expectations from the original Ideas submission. Also super good price for the piece count, and I do feel like it's a good deal for the size also. 10/10 all around!
Love it and means I can recreate scenes from my fav comedy on nf Norsemen :)
I can't wait to arm my Viking minifigs with the new brush weapon!
And thank goodness they have that lookout tower next to the... tower.
In all seriousness though, I think this set looks great. I have a seaside Viking village in my castle layout, so this will work perfectly for me.
I like it! Some things that could improve it: more vikings (maybe a child), animals (cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chicken?) and a small viking boat would make this a perfect set.
I NEED it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The horned helmets bug me a bit, especially if it is indeed supposed to be “an ideal gift for history buffs” (as Lego claims)
Golden sausages! Vikings! Gimme now!
Are you sure this is £140??? Thats seems surprisingly low for a set of this size!! I was exprecting it to be £200+!!

Dragons don't really mix with vikings though. Seems like dragons weren't part of their lore. But worms were. Really, really big worms living in the sea!!

Also, even the original project used a LOT of Reddish Brown, even if it looked much duller due to the digital render's less-than-ideal lighting. A lot the difference in how the final set uses those two colors is just moving them around. For instance, the dock now has a Reddish Brown surface with Dark Brown vertical pilings instead of the other way around, and the longhouse now uses Dark Brown for the support beams on the sides instead of the corner posts (but still uses primarily Dark Brown for the doors and Reddish Brown for the walls, as it did in the original project).
Goodbye money!
Easy pass for me. Indifferent about Castle and quasi-Castle, don't like vikings
That's a cool set.
Pros:
- Looks like a fun add-on to a medieval village
- Nice figures
- Looks like an enjoyable build
- Reasonable pricing
- Inaccurate helmets that allow people to show off their history knowledge about authentic head gear.
Cons:
- Aesthetic is a bit to "MOC" for my taste
- Building/Figures size ratio is off
- Not sure if design will go along well with the creator 3-in-1 Viking ship.
Uthred would be proud.
Very nice development from the original Ideas submission. Decent price compared to the Medieval Blacksmith. Definitely going on the 'With a nice GWP' wishlist!

There are two new torso prints that I can tell, the blacksmith and the watchtower guard. The other two are from the Viking ship. They also(at least some of them) have leg printing.

Same.
Every set a 12 year old can put together. Just about every single set out there.
Like it, except for one thing: light blue is fine for Caribbean water, this is the North Sea/Baltic Sea - this should be dark blue (Lego earth blue).
N.B. The 3-in-1 Viking ship and serpent 31132 will apparently be retired at the end of this year.

I think it definitely depends on the 12-year-old, and the set. While it's true that once you get out of the "choking hazard" age ranges most techniques wouldn't pose a major skill barrier, there's other factors like patience or attention span to take into account that might prove to be barriers when it comes to, say, a massive repetitive set like the Eiffel Tower or an intricate, complex set like some of the bigger Technic supercars.
Frankly I'm not too fussed about age ratings, though. A 12-year-old who can complete an 18+ set is probably a 12-year-old who knows better than to let the age rating stop them. Heck, as a kid I took pride in completing sets that were marked as "above" my age range, and I don't doubt that the same applies to younger teens who consider themselves capable enough to take on your average 18+ set. I wouldn't be surprised if when Lego started rolling out those sorts of age ratings it was after finding that adults were more dissuaded from low age ratings than kids and parents were by high ones.

Surströmming!
During the production of surströmming, just enough salt is used to prevent the raw herring from rotting while allowing it to ferment. A fermentation process of at least six months gives the fish a characteristic strong smell and somewhat acidic taste. A newly opened can of surströmming has one of the most putrid food smells in the world, even stronger than similarly fermented fish dishes such as the Korean hongeohoe, the Japanese kusaya or the Icelandic hákarl. (Wikipedia)
German food critic and author Wolfgang Fassbender wrote that "the biggest challenge when eating surströmming is to vomit only after the first bite, as opposed to before".[23]
Meh! Too much brown and lacking everything else.
I just noticed they recolored the fern into white! In the first year of this part's life, it has already received 5 different colors.
Where's Ragnar in this set?
Or Rollo, or Floki, ... or just any viking without a helmet?
Horned helmets and female warriors, the designer has watched too many hollywood movies.

Spot on. I can't believe there are still people getting worked up about a marketing ploy to make adults feel less guilty about buying a children's toy!
Since this set is perfect, I will find something to complain about TLG:
Why can I only buy 3 copies of this set??

Like we don't have enough of THOSE.
Nothing too substantial about this one. Brown and grey aren't exactly appealing colors, and four okay figures? No boat? $140??
Only Ideas set I can confidently give a hard pass.
I can already see this on my medieval diorama. it fits like a glove and I bet a lot of people is thinking like me, this set it's an unmissable purchase! 130 euros! please take my money!
I know its par for the course at this point, but given that Lego is a Danish company, I really wish they'd make more of an effort to represent their own country's heritage in a more historically accurate way. Especially given the extremely problematic origins and history of the inaccurate modern perception of vikings

This is a reference to the 1999 film The 13th Warrior starring Antonio Banderas. It is based on Michael Crichton's novel Eaters of the Dead, itself loosely adapted from the 10th century travels of Ahmad ibn Fadlan and a retelling of Beowulf.

Far worse: Opera Viking helmets.
This set looks really good to me and the price looks pretty good too, which is something I can't say too often about most other sets. This one will be on my Christmas list.
...This is Berk. It’s twelve days north of Hopeless and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death. It’s located solidly on the Meridian of Misery. My village. In a word? Sturdy. And it’s been here for seven generations, but every single building is new. We have fishing, hunting, and a charming view of the sunsets. The only problems are the pests. You see, most places have mice or mosquitoes, we have…dragons. Most people would leave. But not us. We’re Vikings. We have stubbornness issues...
This is a great little set, and as others have said will pair nicely with 31132.
C'mon, LEGO, you've got the historically accurate helmet pieces, missed opportunity not to use them. This also should've come with a small boat and maybe a few more trees. Otherwise, it looks pretty cool.

Maybe it’s because of the heritage that they went this route? People want fantasy and excitement, and the “historical” route would not provide that. Same with castle or pirates. It’s a toy.
@Martin_S:
I’m finding that Viking dragons were more serpentine. There are so many different traditions for what dragons should look like that it often depends on who you ask if something qualifies as a dragon or not. If the Chinese Lung counts, why wouldn’t Viking serpents? They are often referred to as “Worms” or “Germanic dragons”. In that sense, Jörmungandr the Midgard Serpent is a dragon. So is Níðhöggr, who gnaws on the roots of Yggdrasil. Now, Fáfnir…was a Dwarf who used his shapeshifting ability to turn into a dragon.
Additionally, they are famous for putting dragon heads on the stems of their longboats, though it sounds like there’s no direct evidence that this was their custom. If you think about it, a longboat kinda resembles the profile of a Germanic dragon.
@Jumperstud:
Whether or not the existed in fact, shield-maidens are a part of Viking legend.

Lego: Now now with the colour bitching.
Lego: Let's settle this matter once and for all.
Lego: There are no problems doing an all black and dark grey set 76252; but it is utterly out of the question of doing anything - you heard me, anything - completely in dark brown. For reasons that we will never explain, dark brown is to be used ever so sparingly.
Me: Sad you could not get your dose of dark brown parts after 3 failed attempts: 21322, 21318, 21343. Try to have a good day!
Oh Lordy…I know I’ll cave and buy two and make it bigger. It’s a REALLY good set at a REALLY good price.
