Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 17

Posted by ,

Based on the pattern of this year's Harry Potter Advent Calendar, I expect to find a new outdoor item originating from the streets of Hogsmeade on day seventeen.

Let's see whether the pattern continues...

It appears we are moving straight to our fourth stop in Hogsmeade, as Madam Rosmerta, the landlady of The Three Broomsticks, arrives today. A very similar minifigure appeared in 76388 Hogsmeade Village Visit and features an excellent medium nougat hair element for Rosmerta, although the double-sided head underneath looks too severe and definitely required a cheerful expression.

The torso corresponds with Rosmerta's attire in The Prisoner of Azkaban and I like the subtle pattern on her cardigan, but the ensemble looks incomplete with a matching dress piece. The dark bluish grey legs used instead are not suitable at all, even less so than the black legs used for the character in 76388 Hogsmeade Village Visit.

It is a shame that this opportunity was not taken to introduce an accurate dress for Rosmerta. However, the minifigure looks great on the whole and comes with a pearl silver goblet, so her accessory is appropriate.

Overall - Madam Rosmerta really needed a new dress and a different double-sided head, but this minifigure is still quite good.

I honestly don’t even remember this character from the films. I assume she gets more page-time in the books, and that book fans would immediately know who she was without any dialogue being devoted to her. Anyways, looking up pictures, she appears to have a separate skirt. It would be acceptable for the torso print to either extend below the waist, or stop right where it does, depending on who designed the minifig. A plain skirt leg (probably black, or _maybe_ dark-brown) is an easy substitution, even if it shouldn’t be necessary.

The only reason I remember this character at all is that Stephen Fry had a very fun, memorable way of saying "Rosmerta" in the audiobooks I listened to as a kid. I honestly can't remember a single thing she actually did.

Ron fancies her!

In the books, she plays her largest role in Half-Blood Prince, as Draco uses her to give the necklace to Katie and the poisoned mead to Slughorn. In the movies, she only appears in Prisoner of Azkaban, and that’s only a scene or two, so it’s not surprising that people don’t remember her.

Fun fact: she shares her head piece with Molly Weasley, and Mantis from GotG.

I think her sole appearance in the films is in PoA; she’s the one who shows the Hogwarts staff + Fudge to the back room where they accidentally reveal to invisible Harry that Sirius is his godfather. She doesn’t have all that much more to in the books, to be honest, other than get Imperius’d into being Draco’s agent in HBP

Too bad it's just a rehashed character. It's good to have her in this set, but at least give her a dress slope, even if undecorated.

In POA: She tells McGonagal the rumors about Sirius, which Harry overhears under his i cloak. It’s a pivotal moment of insight for Harry.
