Third Despicable Me 4 set revealed

Posted by ,

The Australian certified store has revealed a third Despicable Me 4 set, following the two that were unveiled last week.

75580 Minions and Banana Car includes four of Gru's yellow helpers: Tim, Ron, Mel and Mega Minion Dave.

Update: We have removed the images at the request of NBC Universal.

Just a question, why is there no image on Brickset for 75583 while 75582 has an image, when both where revealed at the same time?

Oh, okay. Sorry if I sounded cronfontational, I wasn't trying to be, I was just kind of confused

why does "Mega Minion Dave" have a brighter yellow box around his mouth. That looks sooooo weird.

The source is a LEGO partner, so a legitimate one. But, yes, you may be right.

What's super funny to me is that the takedown notices have made it clear that the ugly minion mouths seen in those other images are clearly intentional. I had wanted to army-build garden variety minions, and this set gets part of the way there, but maybe the kind of ugly [redacted] will look better in person. It's funny because without knowing the plot it's like they're trying to censor what initially looked like a mistake by the art department.

On the tenth Day of the fourth month of the two thousand twenty fourth year, there was a reveal of the third set from the fourth movie of the second derivative film franchise.

Nice banana.

I didn't realize I needed a Minion battle pack, but clearly I do. This is pretty nicely loaded up and the car is a riot.

I mean, in fairness the images for the Gru House came directly from LEGO and that didn't stop them from having you and all other RLFM taking them down.

Super-powered Minions, apparently. If it represents something specific to the film, I’m okayish with them having yellow Homer mouths, especially as long as I can get more (and new!) standard Minion heads.

@StyleCounselor:
What, uh, was the first derivative film franchise, in your opinion? Disney Wars? The Marvel Cookiecutter Universe?

Yeah, but like Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it depended on the preceding films to work (including not-including Answer The Call), and turned out great. And then they Tina Feyed it right back into needing to take a hiatus.

I regret not getting 30387 and 40511 from the previous Despicable Me line (I should really see what those go for on Bricklink), so I'm going to try to not make that mistake this time.

Which doesn't make sense anyway. Why present the set to the world and then when everyone has already seen the images have them taken down again.
It's not as if the set was particularly awesome to begin with. Plus it doesn't seem to give away any important plot points not in the trailers that have been shown in cinemas for weeks/months.

That's the BEST kind of softening them up!

'Derivative' being inaccurate and made worse with the precedng adjective. Artisctic inaccuracy- I have a license for that!

The part they put back up doesn't give away anything that's not already spoiled by the trailers, but the part they excised certainly appears to. At least, we haven't seen any trailers featuring those new Minions.

I'm taking the word "derivative" to essentially mean "spin-off" here, and I'm probably wrong, but the first thing that I can think of is Red Sonja.

Ah, but this is Despicable Me 4, the third sequel to the original. It’s Minions/Minions 2 that was basically a spin-off series.

Can the admins of Brickset please merge "Minions" and "Despicable Me 4" into one theme? They're clearly set in the same universe similar to the Marvel and DC media.

Yeah, note that the rest of him is a noticeably darker shade than the others.

By in Hungary,

The derivative is a fundamental tool of calculus that quantifies the sensitivity of change of a function's output with respect to its input. The derivative of a function of a single variable at a chosen input value, when it exists, is the slope of the tangent line to the graph of the function at that point.

I was in the cinema last Sunday and there was a trailer for the movie. I thought it showed the "new" Minions. Then again, what's so new about them anyway? Even in the existing movies in the franchise they come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, plus get "transformed" in shape/size/form whenever a specific scene seems to necessitate it.

Images gone again, this is so absurd; they want to release products soon so they are everywhere by the time the movie comes out.. but they don't want anyone seeing them before the release of the movie? Lol

Completely agree.
I think they place way too much emphasis on keeping details "secret" that most people couldn't care less about anyway.
I mean it's just a movie and not a very important one either. So there's some minions that look a little different. And?
I would rather have thought that Gru's baby could have been a much better and possibly more interesting "secret", but that one is all over every trailer.
Do people really care about such stuff? I know I don't, and of the other people who were in the cinema last Sunday, most didn't even pay much attention to the trailers but instead kept arranging their snacks or even went outside to get an ice cream, go to the toilet or whatnot. I mean, the time before the actual movie starts is the best time for such activities, isn't it?

I’m really confused about the ‘secrecy’ about the mega minions (if their existence is such a spoiler then how come everyone knows what they are?)

I don’t think minions in a different colour are going to be a “I’m your father” moment in the history of cinema, and usually a colour change is used as a marketing tool. Are the removal requests just a way of generating more internet chatter?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I suspect a great deal of the Despicable Me and Minions franchise's value is in merchandise, so I can only think Universal wants to make a big splash when announcing the new Minions and the toys, rather than being too concerned about their role in the story.

Iron Man 3 did it much better, byhaving the merchandise be misleading. 76006 didn't look much like the actual boat battle scene, 76007 had some inaccuracies to the scene it depicted as well, and 76008 just flat-out didn't happen.

See, that’s the thing, though. Ads have been hyper-focused on the new baby. First we knew of these special Minions is really odd looking mouths on three with the house set, which got a takedown notice. Speculation was that they were super-powered, but we didn’t have a box photo yet. This set, we also got the box photo, which includes names. Between the name of the swollen Minion and the fact that the other look normal, we pretty much have confirmation that there will be a super-powered group of Minions in this film. All from images of two sets.

That kind of theorising based on breadcrumbs is absolute manna to marketing though, and something Taylor Swift does so well. However, in the grand scheme of promoting a movie like DM4, doing it through pictures ‘officially leaked’ through the Lego community seems an extremely niche and obscure way of doing it.

It is, when they're able to, and prepared to, take credit for it. When it happens behind their backs, they tend to freak out and have their lawyers fire off threatening letters with a t-shirt cannon.

I'm assuming that Minions 2 Minions still had no logo as Gru wasn't established as a villain yet, an as such, they didn't carry his 'G' branding. The new 'odd' minions all have an M branding, which I'm assuming stands for Mega Minion.

Its funny though that the Purple minions who were mind controlled in Despicable Me 2, also had M branded overalls, but that was for El Macho.

That was a bit different, with more intentional secrecy (or changes) on the front end. TLG had to go off of very early info that got changed by Marvel, but here they have all the stuff they need, Universal just wants to wait to build hype

First film did half a billion. Second, nearly a billion. The next two did over one billion each. The fifth…back down to just under a billion. I mean, for when it was released, and how many times it had been postponed by that point, it did extremely well. On the other hand, I can definitely see the bean-counters freaking out because the last two have seen a “downward trend” at the box office.

Completely unrelated movie, but the first wave of Batman Begins action figures marketed Liam Neeson's character as being Ra's al Ghul, and it wasn't until after the film opened that they got renamed Henri Ducard, and the actual Ra's al Ghul action figures were released.
