Spider-Man Advent Calendar - Day 16
Posted by CapnRex101,
A number of minifigure-scale toys have arrived over the past several days and these have been among my favourite items from the Spider-Man Advent Calendar.
Another could be fun today...
Day sixteen brings us a computer. This is another item that looks reasonable, but really feels like its missing a connection to Spider-Man or the season. The printed keyboard and screen are both fine, but a new 2x2 tile with a screen directly relevant to Spider-Man would improve the design so much and it seems like other Advent Calendars would have the flexibility to do that, while Marvel never does.
Overall - Though not an awful model, this has little to do with Spider-Man and is not festive at all.

Say what you will about it, the fact that it's a CRT monitor appeals to my nostalgia.
How to make this relevant to Spider-Man: The screen has an e-mail:
From: Jameson, J. (jjj @dailybugle.net)
To: Parker, P. (P.Parker2 @dailybugle.net)
Re: Pictures of Spider-Man

It's made by a senior designer...
Is that Windows 3.1?

With a taskbar at the bottom? I doubt it.
BTW, remember when something like it was on the right?

Wasn't Tom Holland's Peter Parker dumpster diving for old CRT monitors in the MCU? I swear it was that or old keyboards that Tony Stark asked him about in Civil War.
I don’t mind seeing things like this in Advent calendars as they have a clear utility beyond the calendar scene. I mean, how often do people preserve the scene said calendars produce, and how often do they part them out?
Probably my favorite out of all of these lol
I like the design for the CRT monitor. It has that lip at the front and a slightly offset backside that just looks right for the scale. And although I don't like how they redid most legacy prints in 2020, at least this screen has details like the task bar. The color also feels appropriate. Having the keyboard off to the side feels a bit uncomfortable though, as personally I always had room to have it in front of the screen. And ehm... we get a chair with it too. That's nice.
That said... I wonder why they included this build for the Spider-Man calender. Is this to email pictures to Jameson? Or to browse Spider-Man fansites?
Oh no. I think I got it.
It's to surf THE WEB

Okay, that gets an upvote.

Those windows are giving 3.1. That was my first instinct as well until I noticed the Start/taskbar on bottom. Funny enough I was just talking about Windows 3.1 this past Saturday night ??
I get the computer being here, given there's Ned as "guy in chair" or Peter Parker himself being a student and a "something of a scientist". This should have been a laptop, though! Dude isn't so bad off that he's using tech this old.
Ahhhhh, a computer for me to sit on all day through the holidays while avoiding my family. It's like my childhood in a microbuild!
Well, this is Marvel-related, so I’ll post it here. Last night at our Detroit Symphony Orchestra layout, a little girl no taller than 3’ walks up, wearing a fancy purple dress, and glitter-encrusted shoes. She takes one look at the layout and asks, “Where’s Deadpool?” Kids are so precious, aren’t they?
Maybe Peter learned some coding and now works as a web designer

By 1994, mI'd been using them for five years, so yeah.

I haven't seen Civil War since its original theatrical run, so don't remember a whole lot of the small details. but given Tony's ability to build a revolutionary energy source IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS! I'm sure he could use obsolete monitors for something.
This feels so city like

Love this!
I think it's a reference to the meme of him looking at the computer with a picture of himself on the wall but I may be wrong
Agree with the review. This is a really good little build, but doesn't connect with PP very well.
