Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 15
Posted by CapnRex101,
Day fourteen offered our fourth and final statue, but the selection of house-affiliated items would not be complete without a Slytherin dining table arriving at some point.
That could be today...
Indeed it is and Slytherin's table features a dark green tablecloth, appropriately. The provided accessories are a little less interesting than those available with the other tables, although the printed Acid Pops jar has only appeared three times before and these acidic sweets reflect the often acerbic personality of Slytherin students!
The box for the Advent Calendar advises that items inside are compatible with 76435 Hogwarts Castle: Great Hall and the statues and dining table certainly look as though they were designed with this space in mind. The statues in particular work well when lined up beside their respective house banners. Additionally, I am sure plenty of Harry Potter fans will receive the Great Hall for Christmas, so having these furnishings ready as an alternative to those already included with the main set is a fun idea.
Overall - This is my least favourite of the dining tables, although the quartet looks lovely once arranged in the Great Hall.

Personally I think its rather insidious that in order to complete a $200 set, you need to buy another $45 set.

I should have mentioned that 76435 Hogwarts Castle: Great Hall already comes with longer dining tables and the staff table inside, these are just alternatives. I have updated the article to clarify this.
I love that this calendar is basically a Christmas accessories pack for an complementary set. That really elevates the calendar's value and fun, IMO, especially if you have the Great Hall built and available this Christmas.
You could "deck the hall" with your kids literally every day until Christmas!

Honestly, I'd love it if all the advents did this sorta thing. Like for City, it could be done to hold a Christmas Party at the fire station, or Friends at a character's home.
Advent Calendar builds that connect to or otherwise enhance other AC builds are old hat, but is this the first time they were designed with an entirely different set in mind?
Frankly, a good deal of most Harry Potter calendars are builds that can be added as extra detail to other HP sets. Except 76404, but at least we got 7.25 minifigs in that one. It’s one of the things that keeps me buying it every year.

I see, thank you.
I must admit, they do look great together.
Crazy to think these have together been 'only' 12 days (minifig with crest + statue + table) of the calender.
It feels like we've gotten nothing else but them.
Ngl, that’s pretty cool.
@Yooha:
From yesterday, the license is with WB for the films, not with Rowling for the books. A few book references have been slipped in over the years, but they absolutely focus on the movies.
@Binnekamp:
It's Day 15, so we've only had three other days that fell outside of that grouping. Those days were a small Christmas tree, Hedwig with two presents, and two items that look like small candies wrapped in cellophane.
The HP ACs have always included great printed elements. While the acid pops piece has been in other sets, its inclusion here is great.
Also, I like that this set has a specific focus like the past ones for the Yule Ball or the game theme with the dreidel spinner thing. Well done in my book.

I mean, that's true for most Lego-sets, my guy. Unless you hail from Realm Galidor, in which case, I'm so sorry. So very, very sorry."
Even Galidor’s ball-and-socket joints were used in some other sets.

Not every printed part that has appeared in an HPAC has been exclusive, but every print that debuted in one has remained so.

75964 also featured a Great Hall theme, but was explicitly Harry’s first year. I’m not sure this one can be pinned to a specific year, but it’s nice that it actually covers all four Houses with more than just banners.
75981 was of course the Yule Ball from Year 4, and is the HPAC that most clearly focuses on a specific scene in the film series.
75390 was the first to incorporate a game, and covered Year 1 leading up to the Sorting ceremony.
76404 also incorporated a game, but covered the full span of eight films. It got a little complicated because each movie had to have three pieces for the game to work, but they also had to include a 25th model for the dreidel spinner (I think it got packed with Hedwig, whose day otherwise consisted of two pieces).
And 76418 covered Christmas at Hogsmeade. This one gets trickier because Rosmerta only appeared in the third movie, while Aberforth showed up in the fifth and eighth. The four students reflect the snowball fight, also from Year 3. I guess the logic is that Aberforth was present but offscreen the entire time?
And this year is again set in the Great Hall, but with no specific focus that I can identify. Half the calendar is just making sure all four Houses get equal representation, and the other three models we’ve seen are generically Christmas. As a parts and minifig pack, it’s excellent as ever, but strictly as a cohesive AC, it feels a bit like they ran out of ideas. They still haven’t covered the Slug Club party, which seemed an obvious choice for 2021!

I think you mean 76390.

Yup. Always the risk when you're trying to pull a bunch of set numbers by typing, rather than copying and pasting.
No review for 76435 even though BS has the set? Are we no longer getting HP reviews?
That it could go well with 76435 when I eventually buy and build it makes me feel a little better about this AC, but it and the City one still feel like they were put together at 1645 on the Friday before it was due.

Considering it pairs with the set, it might make sense to wait until Day 24 is posted so they can include photos showing it stock, or with the HPAC added, without risking spoilers for those who care.

You could be a Star Wars fan and have to buy an $80 set to complete a $500 set instead...
