Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 16
Posted by CapnRex101,
There have been several repeated items in this Harry Potter Advent Calendar, but presumably the last of them arrived yesterday, so the nine remaining days should offer more surprises.
I certainly hope for a pleasant surprise today...
Our fifth exclusive minifigure undoubtedly meets those expectations, with the Choir Ghost! A small group of ghostly carollers are shown briefly in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, passing Hermione outside the Great Hall before she leaves Hogwarts for Christmas. This lady, wearing an elaborate dress, is a member of that choir.
The colour combination of light bluish grey, metallic silver and white matches other ghosts from recent Harry Potter sets, such as the Fat Friar in 76435 Hogwarts Castle: The Great Hall. Their consistent style is effective and this ghost in particular is beautifully detailed, with rows of hearts on her bodice and even a little necklace.
The minifigure features an appropriate double-sided head as well, with a demure smile on one side and a singing expression on the other. Even the hair piece is well chosen, likely based on the most distant of the ghosts shown above. A decorated sheet music tile completes the figure, found normally in Friends and Disney sets.
Overall - This is a fantastic exclusive minifigure for an Advent Calendar, reflecting the seasonal theme, but with potential uses in other scenes.

Now you can recreate "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" in Lego Advent form:
There'll be parties for hosting: 75981, which was Yule Ball themed
Marshmallows for toasting: 76196, which had Black Widow roasting a marshmallow
And caroling out in the snow: 60381, which had a caroler figure
There'll be scary ghost stories: this year's Harry Potter, with a ghost.
And tales of the glories of Christmases long, long ago: 75279, which was about Life Day long long ago in a galaxy far, far away.
A bit bizarre that the Christmas caroler is singing "When you wish upon a star", but whatever.
This might be one of the best advent-exclusive minifigs EVER.
In fact, can we get a Halloween-themed advent calendar every year? I don't CARE that Monster Fighters hasn't been a theme for like 10 years, this is something I need in my life.

Well, technically "Advent" is the period leading up to Christmas, so it'd have to be a "Halloween Countdown" set and have a lot more windows (31 vs 24). And Halloween is itself an "eve" leading up to November 1!
(In fairness, Funko does 13-day Halloween countdown calendars.)

13 because it's unlucky?

Even more bizarre with no key signature, and the first two half-phrases apparently sung simultaneously in harmony.
I love this figure, the minifigures in this calendar are brilliant
I was expecting this to be the Fat Lady, who guards the entrance to the Gryffindor dorms. Guess she’s not technically a ghost, is she? Well, anyways, the part-out copy of this minifig goes to the Ghostbusters.
Appreciate the explanation on who this is, I thought maybe it some Christmas version of the Grey Lady
I prefer to think of her as the Opera Ghost

I do not care. I'm up for Adventween."
Adventween? Don't you mean The Nightmare Before Christmas?
Finally! A good figure!
Amazing minifig. Very obscure subject matter, but I'm not complaining!
"Merry Christmas, merry Christmas, ring the Hogwarts bell... Merry Christmas, merry Christmas, cast a Christmas spell..."

No. I really don't want Jack Skellington or some other existing IP to barge in on this - I want Lego's own monsters, much like (but different from) CMF14. Bring me pulp! Bring me terrible special effects! Bring me... A LEGOWEEN CALENDAR.
If we're going to get a disappointing rabbit, there at least it might be possessed by the soul of a serial killer or something."
"That rabbit's a killer, sir!"
Very ghostly, very demure.
This fig is the only thing I want from this year's calendar.
This one is super fun and creative! What a pleasant surprise after all the days of tables.

Well, she needs something to dance on, doesn’t she?

Me too.
HP hitting it out of the park with cool pieces, prints, and figs. No wonder this AC was hard to find discounted.

"He's got huge, gnashing teeth!"
I'm also down for an Oct parts pack, anything Halloween, really. With the figures of Halloween spending rising each year, I'm very surprised that Lego hasn't learned more into this profit potential.

This one was hard to find in general. Having been so under-ordered, there wasn’t much point in applying discounts as has been done in the past. But even Walmart didn’t discount the other calendars right away, and they typically knocked $10 off the price of the licensed ones right off the bat. Last year they were even marking the SWAC on clearance below $20 as soon as it hit the shelves.

I usually get mine (SW, HP, and City) at Costco for $28. I was able to get SW, but missed the others. They go fast.
I eventually got a great deal on City from Amazon ($23) early Nov. Finally, I saw HP on ebay for $28 just before Thanksgiving.
@StyleCounselor:
Costco didn’t even carry the HPAC this year. Target and Meijer were hit and miss. LBR and Walmart were the only two brick and mortars that reliably stocked them this year, and Walmart didn’t discount them until Amazon sold out.

Yeah, if 40608 had been available for sale, they might have made a decent amount off of it. Or maybe not, considering that Xtra was apparently not profitable enough to keep producing.
