Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 17

Posted by ,

I think yesterday's Choir Ghost is my favourite item from this Advent Calendar, or perhaps any launched this year, so far. It will be a hard act to follow on day seventeen.

Let's see what takes on the challenge...

Mini renditions of the Hogwarts Express have appeared in Harry Potter Advent Calendars twice before, but this edition is even smaller than those. The level of detail is therefore lower, but I like how the train is arranged to go around a Christmas tree. Though I tried to place the tree from day four in the middle, the train obstructs its lower branches. Presumably we will find a different tree designed for this space.

Overall - I like the idea of a tiny Hogwarts Express journeying around a Christmas tree, but the model is currently incomplete, clearly.

Could've done a 1x1 round plate with hole and an upturned gold peg piece to make the smokestack. Which would be a BIG smokestack, but it'd look better, I think.

By in Russian Federation,

I thought this was an armchair of sorts

I was debating using the extra parts to make a tender, but there’s the question of how that would look when you have to shift the engine to a different position. As it is, they’re intended to form three sides of a square.

I thought it was a seat. The radius seems quite ehm... tight for a train of its size.

As did I, but that was because I only saw the top of the image before I scrolled down.

Modding a mini Ford Anglia into that gap between the front and back of the train would be hilarious. Assuming it doesn’t mess with whatever’s supposed to be added from later doors

By in Hungary,

I would replace the 1x1 black tile with a 1x1 round brick with a bar, to have a chimney. Otherwise, it is cute. :)

That's a train? I thought it looked like some sort of chair to rest

If the tree that's likely to come tomorrow doesn't have a Ford Anglia on top, I might have to make one myself. Or just borrow the one from 71043.

I thought of a way to add it to the top of the train. Replace one of the hump bricks in the middle car with a 1x1x2/3 plate/brick/thingy, which has a hollow stud. Put a clear jump stud into it. Add the industry-standard microscale car from 76404. You could also just use a clear Apollo stud to add the jump stud in the gap like you suggested, but I don’t think it’ll look as good because you won’t be able to tell if the train is about to hit the car, or if it’s the car that’s about to hit the train.

By in Italy,

The train from Day 4 fits fine, but you need to have the parts of the train at right angles. The tree with train at the base is actually shown on the box.
