Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 19

Posted by ,

As we enter the final stretch of the Harry Potter Advent Calendar, some more seasonal items to decorate the Great Hall, much like yesterday's tree, would be very welcome.

Let's see what day nineteen has to offer...

Door nineteen opens to reveal our sixth minifigure and another exclusive one, with Professor Flitwick! This version of the professor is inspired by his appearance decorating the Great Hall Christmas tree in The Philosopher's Stone, so it is appropriate that he should arrive today, after the aforementioned tree.

The olive green torso is beautifully detailed with metallic gold leaves and scrolls, matching the onscreen costume closely. Printed arms would have been ideal, although that is probably a bit greedy, as just providing the new torso is good enough! The head is new too and will seemingly remain so, surprisingly, since the upcoming figure in 76442 Hogwarts Castle: Charms Class is different again.

No beard element is a perfect match for Flitwick's facial hair, although I think the piece used in 76385 Hogwarts Moment: Charms Class is a better option than this one. However, the rubber beard suffices and Flitwick's wand is provided, along with a random Hogwarts portrait. These appear in various sets and this one depicts Basil Fronsac, who is identifiable by his distinctive hat.

Overall - Professor Flitwick is another brilliant addition to the calendar, even though his beard could be better.

It's abra-CA-pocus. Not, hocus-cadabra.

Of course, that's why I don't have any friends. :(

In fact, the correct translation is "Ivan the Awesome..."
(50 points to Gryffindor if someone understood that reference)

The randomized portrait is a generous inclusion for a day with an already great minifig.

My portrait is a guy who looks a LOT like Flitwick, which is weird.

Basil Fronsac? I got the same one, and thought it was Radagast the Brown.

He's EXTREMELY vain.

The beard in 76385 is better because it goes all the way around and doesn't just leave a weird white band around the back of his neck

Swish and flick.

What if the person who got the reference is in another house? Not all of us are brave; some of use are smart, ambitious, or... was it hardworking? It's been so long since I read the books, and this *is* Hufflepuff we're talking about...

He's so vain, he probably thinks this post is about him.

I wonder how many people are going to put yesterday's Santa hat on Professor Flitwick.

When I saw the figure, I was like, "Hey, something else that the hat can be used for!"

with olive green legs, he'd be a proper Father Christmas (no, not Santa Claus).

Huh. I have some random woman reading a book. I'm sure she's somebody, but have no clue who.

But at least it's not another statue of a water bear.

That was always my question about the song. Are you really vain to think the song's about you if it actually is? Then I discovered the hidden trick. It's really about _three_ different people, so any of them would legitimately be vain for thinking the entire song is only about them. 1/3rd correct, 2/3rds pure vanity.

I am just having a flashback to Bugs Bunny's visit to Count Bloodcount's castle. The song of "Carrots are Divine" is a classic earworm.

50 points to Gryffindor because 50 points to Gryffindor! (jk, I'm actually a Hufflepuff myself)
