Re-Discover the Age of Dinosaurs with the New LEGO Jurassic World Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex Model Building Set
The LEGO Group and Universal Products and Experiences unveils the new LEGO Jurassic World Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex (T.rex) set. This set is the largest LEGO Jurassic World set ever made and offers a challenging and rewarding building experience for fans. Featuring a detailed T. rex fossil skeleton, over 1m (more than 3 feet!) in length, the new 3,145 piece LEGO set is sure to impress both builders and collectors alike.
The LEGO Jurassic World Dinosaur Fossils set boasts articulated joints, including a movable head, opening jaw, and poseable arms and tail, allowing for dynamic and customisable displays. The set also includes a display stand, an information plaque, and hidden franchise Easter eggs, such as an ‘amber’ piece, adding layers of authenticity and nostalgia.
Fans of the iconic 1993 film Jurassic Park, from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, will appreciate the inclusion of two beloved film characters in LEGO Minifigure form: Dr. Ellie Sattler and Dr. Alan Grant. These characters bring a touch of cinematic history to the set, making it a perfect gift for fans of the franchise. In addition, the coffee-table-style instructions not only guide builders step-by-step but also include fascinating design details, movie highlights, and T. rex dinosaur facts. Builders can further enhance their experience with the LEGO Builder app, which provides an interactive way to zoom in, rotate models in 3D, and track progress.
The LEGO Jurassic World Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex set is available for LEGO Insiders early access from the 12th March at www.LEGO.com/JurassicTrex and LEGO Stores, and available for all from 15th March 2025 priced at €249.99 / £219.99 / $249.99.

Looks terribly repetitive and honetsly not very aesthetically pleasing. And you just know you will have to constantly re-align the mis-aligned ribs.
No, it's too big is a perfect answer for me
If I had a nickel for every time Lego released an elaborately detailed, large-scale dinosaur skeleton I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
I don’t know, the head seems nearly identical to that of 76964 which is still available. That with the unavoidable repetition in the rest of the model is just enough for me not to have any interest in this set.
So in what way the skull of this set is different from the skull released last year?
Looks fantastic. I also love the fact they’re keeping with the ‘Jurassic Park’ branding for certain sets.
Don’t understand the complaints about the repetition of the skull. It was perfectly done last time so why fix what’s not broken. Plus, now there’s two price points. Can’t afford the whole skeleton? Go for just the brilliant skull.
Spared no expense!
In repetition it seems. Looks really cool but it just is too expensive for me. Nice Montana figures for Grant and Sattler. Otherwise it will be a cool display to look at my Lego store near me
The Sam Neill fig still looks so bad and nothing like him. A real shame.
Probably one of the most fragile models since 71042 Silent Mary!
Oh drat. There goes my budget. Again.
Please Please tell me thats a new joint piece used at the neck/head connection. Would make building large scale mechs a lot easier!
Finally; an official reveal after several days of seeing leaked images everywhere!
I think this set looks awesome. I'm probably not going to get it (21320 is good enough for me), so the "No, but I like it" answer for the poll was the right choice for me.
Also — and maybe this is just me nitpicking — but they should've waited to include those specific versions of Grant and Sattler in a Velociraptor skeleton set since that's literally what they're digging up at the beginning of Jurassic Park, unless they're not planning on making a Raptor skeleton and just wanted to include them here.
Wow, so I guess after 76964 expanded into 76969 gaining a minifigure, things have come full circle with this one. Don't care about dinos but the set itself is so versatile and awesome...
I feel like I'd go cross-eyed from staring at all of those tan pieces...
Looks OK, but it's awful expensive and very large for what is likely a repetitive build. Also not a huge fan of tossing two unrelated exclusive figs into the set just to help goose sales. That's a STAR WARS tactic that I've always despised...

I suspect the full T-Rex skeleton was built first by some designer and then when they were thinking up themes he popped off the head and suggested "Dino Skulls". And test the waters first with a lower cost display items before jumping in with the full skeleton (which would require more time to get it up to LEGO standards).
Proposals for the next in the series (I don't know if I'm being serious or not, lol):
1. An Alamosaurus skeleton to go with this guy and recreate the Jurassic Park Visitor Center rotunda.
2. A Spinosaurus skeleton for the T. rex from 75936 to plow through (my apologies to any JP3 Spino fans).

Dino Skulls is just the JP version of SW helmets
The two rebars supporting the dino instead of one is a great addition, I guess it would be too fragile without.

Both figures don’t look right. Laura Dern’s hair doesn’t look like that in the movie
We literally had official images of this at least three days ago...
In any case, this is a pretty impressive model! I wasn't sure that LEGO could actually find a way to place 76964 on a skeleton body, but here we are. The Montana minifigures are great, the only part I dislike is the neck. Goodness gracious, the neck is ugly. Surely there was a way to keep it structurally sound while not making it look like a Minecraft build?

That's right. She wears a cute bucket hat in that scene. In the next scene, when she takes it off she has a short bob. The shorter hair from Qi'ra probably would have worked best.
Looks great, and I notice that this is clearly going to be a series.
This is an unbelievably cool set!!! As a huge dinosaur lover it's absolutely insane to me that we're getting a complete LEGO T. rex skeleton. It's the kind of thing I would never expect the LEGO Group to produce, but based on the images alone it's already one of my favorite sets ever.
I do think the build will be repetitive, but we've seen many repetitive builds in the past that produce stunning sets (like the Colosseum and Eiffel Tower). Those sets are amazing but I love dinosaurs even more than historical structures, so this set is right up my alley. Can't wait to get it!!
It's an impressive set, but I'm not interested in getting it. Dinosaurs aren't one of my things. It's a good set though, like the one in the Natural History Museum, though I'm not sure that's the same type of dinosaur as I've only seen it in Spooks/MI5.
One of these days I hope LEGO will make the Mixels ball joints in other colours. They always stick out like a sore thumb to me. After all, only the best is good enough, right?
*sigh* One day...
Honestly looks amazing. Love the sheer scale, and the reuse of the skull is fine because it was great anyways. Looks Lego-y but also like a great model skeleton. A fun combo.
Build might be repetitive, but it's a skeleton, that's expected. Will likely be fragile unfortunately, but it's a necessary sacrifice for an awesome, appropriately empty skeleton.
My only gripe is the price. I'm not sure if it's worth $250 (makes me unlikely to get it), since it is so hollow. But maybe the sheer size makes up for it, because it does seem pretty massive.
Call me weird but I take issue with the Jurassic World branding here.
The T Rex was a real dinosaur and there are real T-Rex fossils in the world discovered, unearthed, assembled and maintained by real paleontologists - it's not some work of fiction and I think branding it as such cheapens it, as well as ignores the hard working individuals who made it possible.
I'd have rather this been under the icons banner, no licensing required.
Having recently acquired 76964 think that’s my T-Rex itch scratched for a while. Plus I genuinely don’t know where I’d fit this, at least the last T-Rex skeleton fit neatly on a shelf!

It does seem amazing that they are only available in two greys. The only 2 things i can think of is they made a million and so they force designers to use them to use up the stock, or once they start adding one colour all of a sudden we need one in 50 different colours and it would become unmanagable.
Really didn't appreciate it until I saw the picture with a person building it - that is BIG!
Bigger than their Natural History Museum!
Possibly missed a trick in not doing something real-sized, like a raptor or pterosaur.

Part of the license most likely is that no other dinos are released in other themes. Only as JW/JP to promote the movies.
Seems like the minifigs are only added for collectors, as this scale is like a Blue Whale at max size , not a Rex.
The skeleton does look very nice though, and it's big.
Tan also just looks better then white for skeletons like this.
"When Dinosaurs ruled the Earth"
Amazing and beautiful model that will become the centerpiece of the museum in my LEGO city.
But the 12th, really?! I’ll already be at the store, waiting in line, for the new Ninjago City set on the 1st…

There’s a Creator dinosaur released just last year though.
Is that the same head as 76964 "Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull"?
Holy smoking T-Rex.
This might be extreme nitpicking, but the plaque shouldn't state that this species exists in the habitat "Isla Nublar" AND that it lived during the Late Cretaceous.
Isla Nublar (and its in-universe sister islands) are famously volcanic so likely formed in a similar way to the island chains of Hawaii or the Galapagos, i.e. much more recently than the Late Cretaceous.
It's nice to see that the team who used to foul-up the information on the Star Wars UCS plaques have found gainful employment in the Jurassic Park theme!
This looks awesome, and I own zero JP sets.
Stability? Have you built a Lego set? I’m constantly impressed by the methods TLG comes up with for locking sections together that integrate with the design.
I wish they'd do more dinos with printed skeletons like that trex set.

Many years ago, I was lucky enough to attend a Q&A at the Field Museum with Sue Hendrickson in front of Sue.
(For anyone who doesn’t know, Sue Hendrickson is the discoverer of the fossil that bears her name. It’s the largest, most complete t-rex skeleton in the world.)
This thing is like 200 feet long relative to the minifigs.
I’ll stick with 21320

9% of the poll agree with you. I am also part of that 9 %...
"Oh, it's beautiful...."
Well, except for one thing: why did they pose the model like that? It does not look like a naturally balanced stance for a Rex. It looks like it just tripped over a branch and is now screaming in pain from being impaled on the support pole. I guess you could say it's a running pose, but I've never seen a fossil displayed like that. It just looks awkward.
I've had a very similar model of a T. rex skeleton for years - it's a cheap, ~100-piece thing, about the same size as this LEGO one (even the arms are constructed similarly) - and it manages to balance (just barely) without any support poles, because it's been posed with the feet further forward, the way a real T. rex would stand. The LEGO one would still need the supports because of its weight, but the legs could really have been positioned better.
I'm not bothered about the potential fragility; it's a fossil, being fragile is accurate to the real thing. That said, I'm probably not going to get this.
I like it a lot - I like dinos but I'm not a crazy fan of dinos. That said, I don't know if I'll get this (Maybe, I haven't made up my mind yet).
As far as display go, all I can say is: it is certainly easier to display than the Concorde 10318 - at least this skeleton is somewhat narrow. The Concorde is roughly the same length but it is also quite wide.
I believe there were better minifigs before (more lookalike) - the hair of Laura Dern is the same as in 76960 but the torsos are definitely more detailed.
My main interest in this set is the high probability of having interesting part recolours and potentially useful new parts.
I hope it will be popular and we will see more of that line - personally, I would have started the line with a mosasaurus. Next one maybe?
Now, someone will surely build a gigantic UCS visitor center...
If I had the space, I'd love to have this. I'll just have to content myself with 21320. And folks, the head here isn't an exact copy of 76964's. At the very least, there are obvious differences in the jaw.

As several people pointed out in the comments on just2good's video on this set, museum displays of dinosaur skeletons hold them together with metal pins and the like, a the odd bit of the color not being uniform is authentic.
A side-by-side with 76964 (or at least the heads) would be interesting.
Put some clothes on! Your parts are showing.
I wonder how this will size next to my 75936 (whom btw, is wearing the safe from 70167 as a bling chain around his neck).
If only we could get Lego Godzilla to go alongside. This is a bit expensive with everything else going on in the Lego world, but I'll be there for a discount.

It’s both incredibly lucky AND extremely awesome!
It’s huge!
How big would a baby T be? This size?
Superb set, except for the gray ball joints. I think there is ways to have the 2 black posts less apparent (like the dark background in the official picture, or add scenery, foliage).
Except for Eiffel tower, I try to avoid sets (part packs for the future!) with a small variety of parts (ex: colosseum). but I will purcahse this one.
I don't have interest in minifigs in this type of set, especially if not at minifig scale

This is an absolutely gorgeous set, and if I had that amount of cash or room I absolutely would get this. The existing T-Rex skull (which is different, most clearly in the lower jaw) will have to suffice for me.

And looking at this version(Sue) of the skeleton, it seems like there is a lower rib cage part which is not visible on the Lego model.
I would like to welcome Pubisaur Rex.

I know this is a personal irk of mine, but I just cannot stand that Loffhagen guy. He sounds like a bit of a prick tbh.
And their most recent "headlines" on YT just prove they are in it for the clicks and the baits. I mean, what other goal could they have with a title like "The terrible origins of LEGO's T-rex skeleton"?
I never thought Lego would make a dinosaur bigger than the one in 75936, but knowing Lego, it's not too much of a surprise.
Apparently, I was the only one weirded out by the extra bone. I guess I didn't pay enough attention at the museums.
Well out of my price range and size limitations, but man... I may have to pick-a-brick that fossil print (if North American facilities ever support proper pick-a-brick again).
I'm still really wanting an ammonite fossil made from trans-opal pieces and embedded in stone, it'd be a great wall-hanging piece and could be reasonably sized.
yeah pretty cool set
Should look great next to 10307

As others have mentioned, these pictures has been available at sites like stonewars.de for a week or so (don't read such sites regularly, so I don't know precicely for how long). More importantly, they have an artcle about Lego tightening restrictions for fan media (requiring NDAs, disallowing posting pictures already publicly available etc). Isn't this something warranting an article (and discussion) here too?
IMO Lego's taking the completely wrong approach, being exessively harsh on sites that tries to follow the rules while having no effect on non-RLFM sites already ignoring them. Lego really need to tidy their own house first by plugging the sources of leaks within the company, rather than holding fan sites responsible for keeping secrets they themselves has failed to keep in the first place.
An impressive looking set. And, as is getting increasingly useful for larger sets, a fairly shallow depth for adding another shelf!

The amount of ads, popups, and glitchy content is really getting insane. It reminds me of the internet from 95-05.
Yet, they do probably a better job than anyone else of timely amalgamating the Lego news from various other sources.
I find the video guy to be a little verbose, yet fairly charming and far less irritating than 99% of YT/TT talking heads. That's saying something.
And.... I'm the one who came up with "Adfanatics!"
First time seeing this - I like it!
This might be one of those random impulse buys once I see it on display at a LEGO store.
As others have said, it's narrow so it will fit nicely on a shallow shelf or even on the floor. The Jurassic Park connection is irrelevant to me - it's just a great looking museum fossil.
This is a huge improvement on the Ideas T. rex skeleton-- the ribcage and neck are the correct respective sizes. The only things that jump out at me immediately are a lack of belly ribs (but to be fair, a lot of T. rex fossils on display don't have them either) and the reversed halluces (a common error in large-scale T. rexes so far, and frankly a little embarrassing at this point.) Otherwise, this is one of the best dinosaur-related products LEGO's put out to date, which is saying a lot given my reputation for nitpicking.

The updated rules will have little effect on Brickset because we already choose not to publish leaked images or information. There are occasional instances of retailers publishing images much earlier than intended that we will no longer be able to cover, although that is already quite an unusual situation. Retail sets are generally revealed by retailers a few hours before LEGO.com and covering that information will continue as normal.
Personally, I get the impression that the change is not really designed to restrict Fan Media, but to placate departments within LEGO unfamiliar with the online fan community and Fan Media. I assume some departments struggle to understand why information and products are shared with Fan Media outlets ahead of being revealed while those same outlets publish what the confidentiality department considers leaks*.
As you said though, Fan Media are rarely responsible for leaks and I doubt the revised rules will improve the situation regarding leaks; they will just make LEGO employees from certain departments feel more comfortable, at least in the short term.
* It is often not Fan Media publishing or sharing those leaks, but most LEGO employees will not understand the difference between Fan Media and non-recognised media or individuals on social media.
Not for me, I guess. I mean, I kind of like it, but still don't. It could be the idea of it that I like, but it fails in execution. It looks cool and all, but most of that is just from the shear size of it. At this huge scale I would have expected it to be much more organic. The tail especially looks so boxy with those distinct sections of identical repetition. It desperately needs more curvature and gradual blending there, given the scale. The more I look at it, the more things I don't really like.
The only thing impressive is the size of it. That is not enough for me. That only makes it more expensive and impossible to have on display.

Don't live for likes. Smiles are a lot more fun. :)
Looking at it, I can't help but think that this set could have been an non-licensed product. Yes the movies are huge but Universal Studios can't be the only one who has the rights to use dinosaurs as a toy?
Yeah, about this, this was up on Stonewars and Promobricks for over a week.
I posted on Brickset's Discord but saw that it was accidentally leaked from another public relations site? So I deleted it.
I kept getting timed out and delayed posts and spanked over on discord for 'leaks' my bottom is raw and sore.
At times turned on ;), but I cried uncle, uncle my arse is on fire!
I AM the Persona Non- Grrrrata (roll the r's for effect) of Brickset Discord!
Looking at the skull here vs the 76964 Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull there are some differences but very close to the same. Everything looks the same except the jaw which has the same teeth, positions, etc. but the side of the jaw uses different elements to achieve roughly the same shape as 76964 .
This newer skull with it's slight changes does look better with the mouth. More 'natural', not as stiff looking.
In general I like it. My main two gripes are that it lacks gastrallia (but most T.rex mounts do) and that the head shape is a bit too much like a Carcharodontosaurid, but I also understand that the T.rex head shape is somewhat difficult to do properly in LEGO. I think the price is reasonable, I want to get it but space is a concern. Still, I’d rather it be as grand as possible rather than space-efficient.

I definitely saw it on Reddit several days before the "official" reveal; the post is still up on there.

"This is a huge improvement on the Ideas T. rex skeleton-- the ribcage and neck are the correct respective sizes."
The skull is still oversized, but that’s usual in LEGO sets, e.g. Fox 31154.
Looks fantastic, a metre long when fully extended, and within my price range. Not sure if it needed to be Jurassic Park branded (a partnership with the Natural History Museum would have worked just as well) but we do get a couple of great minifigures with a little vignette for them to stand on, though Alan Grant should have his hat, surely? Anyway, not a day one purchase, but definitely going on the wishlist.
It’s a boy!

That's cool. I'm sure it was there; that's just not where I saw it. It was very easy to find images of it with just a simple Google search this past week.

Ah yes, another case when a set is well received yet an overly cynical first post gets way more thumbs-up than it would have otherwise simply because it was the first. "
What an odd thing to type out and press send on.

"Looking at it, I can't help but think that this set could have been an non-licensed product. Yes the movies are huge but Universal Studios can't be the only one who has the rights to use dinosaurs as a toy? "
No, but the Jurassic Park license will bring more people in.

It’s almost a dead ringer for Sue at The Field Museum in Chicago!"
Many years ago, I was lucky enough to attend a Q&A at the Field Museum with Sue Hendrickson in front of Sue.
(For anyone who doesn’t know, Sue Hendrickson is the discoverer of the fossil that bears her name. It’s the largest, most complete t-rex skeleton in the world.)"
And looking at this version(Sue) of the skeleton, it seems like there is a lower rib cage part which is not visible on the Lego model."
That was the first thing I noticed as well. The lower rib cage thing is a distinctive part of T. Rex skeletons.
Probably a minority opinion here, but while I love the set, I wish they weren't Jurassic Park-branded.
You think we’ll ever get more of these?

Maybe, if they make more movies?

Totally agree. As I said in my own comment, a possible partnership with the Natural History Museum would have been just as appropriate. Can't help but think the JP tie-in might have pushed the price up a bit.
It's a magnificent set, but it's not going on my wish list. Like the Titanic, this is just not something I'm willing to give the necessary space--but in a perfect world, I would. And I don't rule out changing my mind, either!
lol, Those Minifigures are a funny inclusion in this set… The disparity in scales is wild. …But nice to have.
Beautiful looking set.

Still don't understand why they're making another one. I watched the trailer for Rebirth, and I had one question running through my head the entire time: "What's even the point of this movie?" (besides money of course, lol)

Somebody in the planning stage: "What's the point of making another sequel?"
Somebody else: Money!"
The first person: "Say no more."

"Looks fantastic.
"
You argument would be valid IF the two sets had released in the same wave in the same year. As someone who bought the skull before this set was barely a twinkle in the mind’s eye, I am considering selling it to buy this one, which is more annoying.

That would be amazing. Would much rather see that on the display sticker than a JP tie-in.
