More news from Nuremburg

Posted by ,

Our friends over at zusammengebaut.com have been busy sorting their images out overnight and have now posted a good number on their website:

I suspect more will be added during the day, so we will keep an eye out and update the list above.

A few of Andres' videos are embedded below. More can be seen on YouTube.

By in France,

Why are some of the new Mixels not getting released in Germany? Will it be the case for other European countries like France?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Fun at the park - with a baby minifigure, and a wheelchair. Definite buy there!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

... until Lego tells them to take them down.

Oh, and Ninja Mixels? Cool beans.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

That hot dog vehicle may be the first Mini doll set to tempt me...

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

Actually promobricks.de have a lot more pictures ... (On their facebook site)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@Matt89190 There are pictures of the airport (and a lot more) on hothbricks.com

Gravatar
By in Germany,

'Fun at the Park' has a man pushing the baby carriage and a woman in work clothes pushing the lawn mower. I think TLG may have learned a thing or two in the past couple of years.

Gravatar
By in Serbia,

Wow, The Fun at the park and Friends Amusement park sets are awesome! I think 2016 will be an expensive year for me :P

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

No star wars anywhere pics?

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Damn, hopefully NY toy fair will allow pictures.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

New baby! New wheelchair! New hotdog baguette! New grapefruit! :D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ugghhh! the Bridge, and the Fun at the Park, and all of it! I can't handle this! Too much money!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Promobricks has a lot more pictures, and without watermarks.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Lloyd's Green Dragon was apparently there but I can't find any pictures of it anywhere, though there are pics of the rest of the Ninjago sets that were shown on there... anybody care to provide me with a link to a picture of that particular set?

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

So far no Star Wars images and I am really wanting to buy only three sets of the Summer wave: Ghost Rider Team Up, Gas Station, Lego Park City Pack. Thanks to the other site hard work.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thank you for the feedback @clone. Which sets in particular?

Bear in mind that when we are at the show we get to see each theme area for around 5 minutes so have to be quick with our appraisals.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

@Clone - Our descriptions were accurate for the most part and as Huw said, it is not easy given the short amount of time we have with the sets.

If your opinions on some of the sets differ from ours then that is not our fault. We gave honest opinions and I stand by them.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I thought Huw, CapnRex and LostInTranslation all did great jobs of describing the sets, frankly I think that a lot of people tend to just get over excited too easily. Manage your own expectations, don't blame other people for posting their opinions.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Guess nobody took pics of the Lloyd dragon then? Disappointing that it wasn't photographed and published along with the other Ninjago sets, even though it was mentioned.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmm... I really like Fun at the Park, baby and wheelchair! Also the hot dog stand, and Zane's Ninja tumbler looks fantastic.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh man, that baby minifigure. Would buy the set for that alone! But wow, the rest of it looks great too. Very excited to grab that when it comes out.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Pretty sure they are spacing out the release of these images by around an hour or two each time. Honestly, it shouldn't be taking an hour to upload three-to-five images each time, Promobricks has covered a majority now so would suggest checking that instead.

As for interest in sets, Marvel sets are a definite purchase. Ninjago sets have one or two that interest me. Nexo Knights Ultimate sets are a buy and might get the Volcano lair and tower carrier. Other than that not much interests me so far.

@shib
"I thought Huw, CapnRex and LostInTranslation all did great jobs of describing the sets, "

I think the coverage was excellent for everything except the London Toy Fair first report on the Bionicle sets. Not sure who did that one but the first report on that was a mess to be honest - lots of incorrect information and reporters opinions clouding reporting accurately about the sets. The second report made up for it though it was shortly taken down after.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was hoping for a quiet year, so that my wallet could recover, but TLG have done it again....
Another bumper year for Lego. :)
I expect to see that baby in many sets, over the next few years.
The Wheelchair will probably also make more appearances.
Professor X.....? and more.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Frankly, I'm shocked the Duplo fan community hasn't been up in arms because we never covered them at all! ;-)

I don't think we really overhyped anything - we saw the sets, in the brick, with our own eyes, and said what we saw (little Catchphrase reference there) and we then proceeded to give our opinions. What more can we do? I stand by all of my comments. Some sets I thought were excellent (and still think so even after seeing pics from Nuremberg) and others just fell flat - again, in my opinion. If people really think we at Brickset have a responsibility with respect to other people's expectations and disappointment, they need to get some perspective on life.
I guess it really is true that you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Reporting on the toy fair is also a much, much harder task to do than I appreciated before going myself. Last year I remember looking at some of the Friends coverage and thinking, is that it?? But having been, I felt like I wrote a lot of notes and took in as much information as I could whilst being given the spiel by the Lego employees. However in some areas I feel I could have noted more but there just isn't time. I think my visual memory is worse than I realized too!
All in all it was a great experience though.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

I would also add to LostInTranslation's comment that the presentation of the LEGO stand in London is dreadful in relation to the displays at Nuremberg which makes it much more difficult to write about what you are seeing.

NINJAGO was particularly poorly shown this year. Sets were strewn all over a table with no attempt to display them in a coherent manner, unlike at Nuremberg where most sets are displayed on their own platform and you are shown each one in some detail.

As LostInTranslation said, reporting on the London Toy Fair seems easy until you try it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The tires on that Tractor are monstrous. That set may be worth picking up for the power functions and tires alone.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It's all a moot point anyway, LEGO UK did not like our coverage and asked for it to be pulled despite the fact just hours later images were all over the 'net. We won't be invited back next year.

As said above, it's pretty much pointless going anyway other than for a general impression because the displays are shoddy, half the product range is missing, there are no proper minifigs on show, set labelling is full of errors and although you think you are made to feel welcome, in reality they usher you round as quickly as possible and can't wait to get rid of you.

I don't think I'll miss it!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Based on the picture and set number, the Series on the Yellow circle base are the Mixels Series 9. Not exactly sure why they didn’t mention them in their post on Zusammengebaut.com

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

You are right, we haven't seen them before.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yuck. I am really getting the impression that Lego UK has some really stiff folks working for them; first they threatened to call their lawyers last year over some Star Wars leaks. Now they are mad you published your opinion on there sets which were publicly revealed a few days later.

Huw is it really worth being an official Lego affiliated website? Seems they have been using it a lot recently to keep you on their leash. I wonder how Lego would react if their largest fan site cut that leash...

Gravatar
By in United States,

@xboxtravis7992

I'm not familiar with what an official LEGO affiliated site is - can you explain?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't think anybody noted this, but the driver's seat in the Class tractor looks like it has some half pins on it; maybe you can legally have a minifigure drive it?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Huw and the crew did a great job considering the obstacles they had to face. London gets so much hype only because it's the first show but only seems to cause aggregation. Then Nuremberg comes immediately afterwards and wipes all that work out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The airport is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. The private jet/limo looks awesome!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

@ Huw ... well, for whatever it's worth, I think it stinks what Lego did to you guys. I liked all your reviews. And your passion, for the hobby, it really came through in your reports. Being passionate is why we're all here, after all, isn't it?

Although I am finding that I too was a little underwhelmed by the Spider-Man bridge set that all three of you picked as your favourite ... but I'm completely with you in terms of the Friends Rollercoaster. That thing is *lame*. That's a not a roller coaster! It's a pastel railway loop with a mild-incline (that's, at best, five or six bricks off the ground).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well, I think the London reports were very good - as good a description as can be expected given the viewing circumstances, and a personal opinion based on their Lego experiences and personal preferences. There opinions will differ from other peoples; that's the whole point of any opinion. If anyone got over-excited, that is not for the Brickset team to take the blame.

Changing topics, I am extremely impressed by the new Technics sets, they all look stunning. Slightly concerned at the fact that 3 out of the 4 are top-end sets, it makes budgeting harder. The Architecture sets look great, and the other sets show a good mix of content. Roll on summer!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@rcmafiax. I don't know if Lego affiliated website is the official term, but Brickset (along with Eurobricks and BZpower) are in agreements with Lego were they receive free sets to review through Lego's Ambassadors. One of the rules with this arrangement is that the website cannot share leaked photos. Normally if a pic is leaked, Lego just asked the site to remove the photo. But recently the Lego UK team has become rather aggressive towards Brickset about this, now even asking for the removal of set Descriptions...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Obviously, the NRG dragon, the one Ninjago set that I wanted to see doesn't have pictures. Typical.

Fun in the park looks absolutely fantastic, however!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^ Yes, sort of. We are an online RLUG (recognised LEGO user group) and as such LEGO affords us certain privileges, such as sets to review.

We are also a LEGO affiliate in that we have been accepted into its performance marketing scheme and receive a commission on sales at shop.LEGO.com resulting from referrals.

The two are different, you can be one without the other.

Opting out of being an RLUG is not really a sensible option and would not result in being able to share confidential material: all that would happen is that instead of being asked nicely by LEGO's AFOL relationship team (ARP) to remove it, we'd get letters from lawyers.

We do not have any dealings with LEGO UK other than at the toy fair; issues resulting from confidential material are dealt with by LEGO's ARP.

Gravatar
By in United States,

How long has it been since Lego's released a big box of minifigures? Because that's essentially what "Fun in the Park" is, and I love it.

The only downside is finding homes. My daughter is concerned at the number of homeless people we now have in our Lego City. This is only going to add to it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^Thanks for clarifying Huw.

I guess a nice "please remove the photos" would be better than lawyers... But I still am scratching my head about the removal of the Toy Fair descriptions.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am sure the baseplates with roads can be big enough for an apartment building. Every city needs low income housing.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Matt89190: ooohhh! Thanks!

Hey everyone, look at the wheels on the red car in the gas station and on the white limo in the other picture! We've nagged them into using proper wheels!!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Ignace delaet
There is a link to Bionicle photos on Facebook on Eurobricks Action Figure Forums Bionicle 2016 set discussion

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow, that nijago mech windscreen could have potential for a Bioshock big daddy MOC!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Huw @CapnRex101 I thought the reviews were spot on. I didn't realize that you were asked to take down the reviews until reading the comments here. Can you put them back up now that the images are out? Keeping your RLUG status is important for AFOLs such as myself who don't have access to a LEGO store and the upcoming new releases. Your early access reviews has helped me on numerous occasions to look out for sets that interest me. Without your reviews in one central place would be a mistake. Another reason to keep your RLUG status is that I've already marked my 2018 calendar for a return trip to Billund. Keep up the great work the Brickset team is doing!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I thought the reporting on the London Fair was perfectly acceptable, both to your readers and to LEGO. Perhaps LEGO will try a bit harder next year to give visitors a positive experience, although if the same PR people deal with both London and Nuremburg, I can see that doing both would be hard work.

No-one has mentioned the Elves set. The dragon looks better than I imagined from previous descriptions. I'll probably buy it. Perhaps a park in my Modular City, complete with baby, homeless minifigures, and a big dragon statue. Or a LEGO version of the Unigene Heaven benchmark - that would be a challenge.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

That's simply ridiculous. So comprehensive, detailed descriptions because no photos can be taken, and a few hours later pics are all over the place? Yet you have to pull the descriptions?

Just how much more absurd can it get?
Thank you for your work anyway.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Huh, for some reason my original comment didn't post? Or was it deleted immediately?

But in response to Huw's posts on London Toy Fair: I'm sad to hear that you're not going to be at LTF next year, even though I thought you did a stellar job. It's silly how they asked you to pull everything, UK prices of sets included (arguably the one piece of info I find most important of all, given I like to plan my budget in advance without having to guesstimate using the US prices which are often common knowledge, unlike UK prices). This makes me wonder if LEGO UK are going to outright refuse entry to anybody who isn't a retailer, or even pull out of LTF altogether next year, in which case the valuable UK price info of the summer sets isn't going to be known until the day of each set's release, and cause me and other UK fans on a budget a real financial nightmare.

It's just silly how secretive and harsh LEGO have been recently, even to the point where prices for certain sets are just as confidential as the sets themselves. IMO it's got a bit ridiculous. As for Brickset, I'll say, please do keep up the stellar work! :o)

But on the topic of Nuremberg pictures, I'm glad to see that images for the vast majority of sets are floating around now, and Lloyd's dragon in particular is looking good! :o)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@LostinTranslation - I was pretty much talking about getting that particular info for summer sets in subsequent years (2017, 2018 etc), not this year, as UK prices are generally not revealed until the product launch, aside from at LTF.

I did notice the prices in the database yesterday so thumbs up to Brickset for that :o)

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Why is it always the complainers that get responses? Well done Team Brickset, your previews are great to read and photos are a bonus, don't let the begrudgers and nitpickers get you down, they're the minority but they can be unfairly harsh most of the time.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thank you ^!

Gravatar
By in United States,

31052 vacation getaway may be the best set I've ever seen. Rv, house, and boat 3 in 1. Awesome!!!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I should reiterate, I wasn't complaining about Brickset at all. I think the work they do to even give us the previews is superb and much appreciated, and in previous years it was good/fun to compare the description to the photos obtained in other Toy Fairs. I 100% support Brickset all the way. Just sad to see that LEGO doesn't seem to like what Brickset are doing anymore, and I'm a bit sad at possibly missing out on region-specific info and interesting tidbits and previews from here next year.

I guess LEGO's actions are bothering me much more than they ought to I guess! :o)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ That's not entirely true. Parts of LEGO appreciate the value of the adult community but pockets of it remain that do not and unfortunately LEGO UK appears to be one of them.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Was there any mention WHY certain new Mixels will (supposedly) not be sold in Germany? What's up with that?

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

@Matt89190 - That is the Airport Starter Set. It consists of a small mail helicopter, a mailbox and four minifigures.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^^ Strictly a guess but perhaps the German footballer CMF "replaces" that series of Mixels on Germany...

Gravatar
By in United States,

The new Ninjago theme looks like revisiting the old themes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

LEGO needs to tone down the aggressive censorship. Anyone remember the Hobbit sets incident in 2014?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fun in the park looks like absolute fun for everyone!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Huw, I also appreciate the work you guys do. If it wasn't for the chance to peruse and plan using AFOL sites like yours, I probably wouldn't have bought a tenth of the sets and books I've amassed in the last eight months since my Dark Ages ended.

BTW, I'm looking forward to 60134 "Fun in the Park": at last I will have enough ordinary people for all the cops to protect from all the crooks!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I heard that photos/videos of the new Star Wars sets are not allowed at Nuremberg either, because they don't want info to leak on the two new sets for the new Star Wars cartoon. Is that why LEGO had Brickset pull the set descriptions? And if they are so touchy about those two sets, why would LEGO display them at the toy fairs?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Thanks so much! Those sets look epic! The Ronin mech I will definitely buy the week it comes out! I haven't been as excited for a set like that for a long time.

:D

Thanks so much!

Also, NINJA MIXELS!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Ronin Mech has an old Exo-Force symbol on its left thigh! :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

Apparently the wheelchair-bound guy also has vitiligo - check out those hands. Tough break.

In other news OMG Lego baby! Neat!

Looks like we get at least one more wave of Mixels, but not in Germany? My guess is Mixels is fading out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Clone, etc

What I'm about to say is not exactly meant as a criticism of the Brickset team's ability to report, but I think the issue you're trying to raise is related to a sort of... lets say "brand loyalty tunnel vision".

In other words, Huw and the rest are all so wrapped up in the Lego fandom world that they see these sets as how they fit into the world of Lego fandom and the Lego gestalt, rather than a selective fan (only interested in a few product lines), average fan or even average consumer's take on Lego.

I'd also say that their perception of the products they witness and review are also skewed by the fact that they are included in attending these sorts of events and the fact that they receive products to review for free. People subconsciously, if not intentionally, respond favorably if they feel they want to be a gracious guest or recipient. This isn't a bad trait in general, but in the realm of criticism it can be really skewing. The same goes for review products, even if you make sure you don't give undue praise for the freebie, there is still something lost in the experience if you don't feel the "hit" for having to actually spend upwards of 100s of dollars on a toy. This actually came up a lot back with the Avengers Helicarrier, with it's grotesque price of $350.

More than anything it's just important to keep in mind that these biases will exist and to make your own decisions. Their assessments aren't wrong, even if they may be out of touch for the average consumer, they're just heavily steeped in the world of Lego for better or worse.

I sometimes get on people's case for being fanboys/girls, but sometimes you just need to let them be fanboys/girls. Sorry it was annoying for you this time, I know the feeling.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Park set looks great! So far that's the most likely set I'll get.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So far I haven't found much to disagree with in the Brickset reports on sets shown at the Toy Fairs; I'm glad I managed to read them all before they were taken down, and I'm shocked and surprised at TLG for that decision. Also, I must say, badly disappointed, like so many others here.

Thank you all very much for keeping the site up-to-date with the latest information from Nuremberg. Pictures may or may not be worth a thousand words, but these pictures reinforced your reviews remarkably strongly.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That Friend's amusement park is a disappointment. :( The Hot Dog cart and the Camper are the only interesting sets.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

The next wave of Nexo Knights-sets are just stunning, the three biggest sets are just top-notch, love this theme.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

The Elves 'Precious Crystal Mine' looks like it has a better potential roller-coaster concept than the Friends Roller Coaster!

I love the orca with the lighthouse and the brick-built bear with the Creator Camper.

The airport line doesn't seem to have anything particularly novel, but it will certainly appeal to the new generation of youngsters who weren't around for the last airport.

I like the roll-cages on the volcano vehicles, and I the original lime colour-scheme. The components of Jestro's Volcano Base would make a better volcano though!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Man... that green Mixels tribe in Series 9 is just trash... :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

My favorite is the Mixels the ninja are so cool!

Gravatar
By in United States,

and also the baby minifigure is cool
