Star Wars Advent Calendar Review: Day 8

This year's Star Wars Advent Calendar has offered an even split between models and minifigures so far. We were due to reveal another minifigure today but the cycle has instead been broken as a third weapons emplacement joins those already situated on the frozen surface of Hoth.

This 1.4 FD P-Tower turret is easily recognisable but is constructed at neither mini nor minifigure scale so is slightly out of proportion with the other gifts. Nevertheless, it features a handle for a figure to hold on the back and can be raised and lowered on a hinge as well as rotated all the way around. The octagonal parabolic ring is quite effective in recreating the shape of the battery in the film and I like the white 3x3 dish which is used as a snowy base.

It is worth noting that a P-Tower also appeared in the 2012 Star Wars Advent Calendar but this model is far superior in size, detail and the construction methods which are used.

Overall - 3.5 - I think today's model is the weakest so far, although this is still a decent representation of a P-Tower and I am pleased to see something which can interact directly with the minifigures.

So that's what that was! Back in 2012 wondered hat that was, and this version is definitely better!

I still had a moment of joy inside when I placed the Snowtrooper on it and his feet were level with the base :D

By in Germany,

I love opening doors and so far there is cool stuff inside. Still, I would have prefered some Ep. 7 stuff to come with the calendar. Some new figures, ships and stuff. Even if builds are getting better over the years, I'd prefer something new than repeats. And who wouldn't like Rey's Speeder in mini form?
Same goes for the system scale models, I believe. Some new ships are always prefered!

I agree with everything you said in the review, Capn. It is nice to have that octagonal piece in silver. It captures the shape of the cannon well.

The latest film didn't do it for me at all so I'm glad they're sticking mostly with the original trilogy. Okay, so this gift wasn't great but it's better than the same P-Tower from 2012. All in all, going by what we've had so far, this has to be one of the better SW advent calendars to date.

@yamaki
So that would be a dark red popsicle turned on its side?

If they'd left the handle off it probably would have looked more like it was a scale model but as it is, it's like a 'toy' version of the actual size turret. Still, can't complain at a metallic finish piece like that.

This one is decent. It's not the best, but not the worst.
