Star Wars Advent Calendar Review: Day 11
Posted by CapnRex101,
We are approaching the halfway point of this year's Star Wars Advent Calendar and continue to explore the Prequel Trilogy on day eleven. However, our focus is shifting from the might of the Republic navy to the Trade Federation and its enormous droid army.
This is the second time that an AAT has appeared in a Star Wars Advent Calendar, with the previous edition coming in the 2014 set. Unfortunately this model is significantly weaker than the original as the attempt to replicate the subtle shaping of the 'foot' has resulted in an unsightly gap in the centre of the model and the colour scheme is a mess. I find the reddish brown 1x1 brick with studs on four sides to be particularly incongruous. Furthermore, the primary laser cannon is fixed in place so cannot be rotated which is an integral feature of the craft in the film.
On the other hand, I like the clear 1x2 plate which is placed underneath to give the impression of hovering and the shape of the crew compartment is reasonably accurate to the film. If the colour scheme were a little more consistent then this would be a satisfactory effort but in its current state it is my least favourite of the eleven gifts revealed so far.
Overall - 3.0 - This is a rather disappointing offering in my opinion and the earlier model is far superior which is a shame.

I've used the spare 1x1 plate to bring the cheese slope at the front further forward, and rotate it so it's sloping down instead.
Personally, I think this mini-model looks quite good. Of course it may help that I'm generally very nostalgic for Star Wars Episode I (in fact I was just reminiscing about it on another site).
I actually think it looks pretty good.
I love this model. This and the Slave I are my favorite models so far from the calendar. I think the color scheme is fine -- looks a lot like the AAT from The Phantom Menace. Are you comparing this with the AAT that belonged to the CIS in the Clone Wars?
I agree with the review. It's an OK model but is nowhere near as good as the 2014 model and there is plenty of room for improvement. Fingers crossed tomorrow will be better!
I feel like the momentum went out of this calender when the prequel stuff started. Those movies just don't have the charm. Love the first 8 days though!
I like that it rotates...
Honestly, the score seems kinda harsh, but I guess there have to be at least some lesser scores in the lineup.
The Clone Wars edition one from two years ago is way better, but they tried.
I just opened my day 11 and, SHOCK!, I got a repeat of day 8! Did this happen to anyone else? I'll give LEGO a call tomorrow to see if they can help me out. However bad the review of day 11 might be, I still want it.
And really, day 8? Another Stormtrooper and I just may have let it slide.
Just sayin'.
