Star Wars Advent Calendar Review: Day 10

The tenth day leaves the frozen wastes of Hoth behind and takes us back to the era of the Clone Wars where another marvellous mini model is about to drop out of hyperspace and into the heat of battle.

The Venator-class Star Destroyer is one of my favourite vehicles from the Prequel Trilogy and I am delighted to see it make an appearance in an Advent Calendar for the first time! Its unusual shape has been rendered very nicely and I like the combination of light and dark bluish grey with a single dark red stripe along the dorsal axis. A couple of dark tan plates are visible at the bow and these give the impression of some texture which looks great, although light bluish grey would be more faithful to the source material.

I like the use of slopes to form the angular armour plating and the mounting of the engine nacelles on click hinges is equally impressive. However, the hull should extend between the engines and this is unfortunately absent from the model which leaves the thrusters looking a little out of proportion. Nevertheless, this is an outstanding offering.

Overall - 4.5 - I think this model is one of the best yet and hope to see more vehicles from the Prequel Trilogy over the coming days.

Glad to see that the prequels are not dead. Best model of the calendar if you ask me and I'm delighted that it's not another remake. Now if we could only get another full size one....

This is turning out to be the best Star Wars calendar yet!

By in Canada,

When I first saw this one, I thought it was a crappy looking a-wing fighter. I'm happy with it after I realized what it actually was.

I appreciate the fact that the prequels are included in the calendar. Good model and instantly recognizable. I'm just a little bothered by the engine area in the back.

Nice, I love it and I will be making from spare pieces.

By in Sweden,

Again a very good microbuild with exciting and creative use of pieces. This calendar has impressed me so far.

I too thought this was an excellent model. Although in my opinion, I think they had the binoculars piece used the bridge facing the wrong direction. In a previous mini-build, the bigger part of the binocular piece was facing the front, but this one it's facing the back. I switched mine around. :) http://brickset.com/sets/30053-1/Republic-Attack-Cruiser

This is a nice model, but like yesterday, I wish the preview image didn't reveal the actual model.

@markkawika I agree about the preview image spoiling the model. It appears that CapnRex101 (who does a great job wth these reviews) uses a pic of the box for the day of each model, not spoiling it. But then switches to a pic of the model a day after its review. I was lucky enough to receive the Advent calendar on Day 12, but instead of just opening up all of the days until the 12th, I opened Day 1 and Day 12 on the 12th. And Day 2 and Day 13 on the 13th and so on and so forth. So I was initially spoiled by a few of them until I figured out how (with a bit of trouble) to avoid it. Again I'd like to say CapnRex101 you do a STELLAR job with these reviews, but I think in the future you should wait until after the completion of the calendar to update the lead-in pics.
