Star Wars Advent Calendar Review: Day 19
Posted by CapnRex101,
Day nineteen sees the arrival of our sixth minifigure as the Return of the Jedi theme established yesterday continues. There are just a few days left to go and I have high expectations that the 2016 Star Wars Advent Calendar will end just as well as it began.
I think army building minifigures are best suited to Advent Calendars so am always a little disappointed to encounter an existing minifigure of a particular character. However, this version of Luke Skywalker has only previously appeared in 75093 Death Star Final Duel and 75159 Death Star so is relatively rare and I am sure it will prove popular with many opening their calendars today.
The printing on the front and back of the torso is fairly simple but looks great in relation to the film and I like the dark tan hair piece as well. Luke's head includes angry and smiling expressions and he is armed with a green lightsaber. A spare metallic silver hilt is also included.
Overall - 4.0 - I prefer to see army building minifigures included but the rarity of this figure will hold a great deal of appeal for some.

I'm not complaining. I prefer army builders too, but as somebody who can't afford all of Lego's sets, getting a specific figure is welcome.
Heck, I'd appreciate if they could throw Thrawn in there next year so I don't have to spend $40 on on the new Phantom.
^ They wouldn't put Thrawn in an advent calender, especially since he's the main selling point of the Phantom. I also prefer army builders but I think Luke's alright.
I'm very happy to get this Luke. I have the original Death Star, so I had no interest in either of the sets he has appeared in.
After the countdown finishes it would be nice to see a top ten list of the greatest Star Wars advent pieces of all time.
Good idea!

I'd be up for that
I suggest that such a lust exclude minifigures or make them a separate category. Many are army builders, and the Santas might dominate.
Not to spoil the remaining days, but my pucks would be:
10. 2016 Republic Cruiser
9. 2015 Millennium Falcon
8. 2013 LAAT and Walker combo
7. 2012 Vulture Droid
6. 2016 AAT
5. 2011 Y-Wing
4. 2015 Hoth Cannon
3. 2014 Landspeeder
2. 2012 Naboo Starfighter
1. 2011 X-Wing
I'm extremely happy to get this Luke! I prob won't acquire the other 2 pricey sets he's in, so I'm pleased.
You forgot to mention that he has 2 faces on his head
Delighted with this fig, the reason I got this calendar knowing a new desert skiff was coming out, ROTJ Luke will be added to that set as soon as it comes out!
@Darth_Maul_Epic,
Maybe top 12? 1 per day for the 12 days of Christmas (which, contrary to what seems to be popular belief, come after Christmas)
Having not that many of Luke, so another figure is great.
Great to get this figure so cheap and easy compared to the other sets he's in. Will go nicely with the figures from Shuttle Tydirium.
This is my first Luke so I am stoked! Plus it is the cool ROTJ version. Very grateful to have gotten him in the calendar.
I'm glad so many people are happy to get this figure. However as someone who was lucky enough to be gifted 75093: Death Star Final Duel last year for Christmas, I would have liked something not offered elsewhere. Luke in his cloak from the beginning of Jedi or maybe even Bespin fatigues would have been fantastic. Endor fatigues or maybe even Dirty Dagobah Luke. I'll probably just take his head with a spare Solo head and pop them onto some stormtrooper bodies. Although that takes away from my Imperial forces.
^ Great idea - instant Death Star minifigs without the £400 Death Star
Totally disagree. Army builders might be fun for AFOLs, but you need a few headline draws otherwise what's the point? It's not star wars without a lightsaber
I don't really understand the army builder argument here. I get it for battle packs, but who's going to buy multiples of an Advent Calendar? I think this is a perfect place to put one-off minifigures that many people won't have. (Even better is the exclusives like the silver droid).
Fair enough if your personal preference is for stormtroopers or snowtroopers. But as you said in an earlier review, marking it down for a personal preference seems a little harsh (albeit only 5 down to 4).
I was absolutely thrilled to get a ROTJ Luke! Especially considering the other 2 sets he is in are both expensive and either underwhelming (final duel) or completely unnecessary (new Death Star)....
I'm much happier with this than I would have been with a generic army-building figure, which I can get in battlepacks.
@StattoCampo - I agree that nobody is going to buy multiple Advent Calendars but the majority of those who buy the Advent Calendar will probably own several of the Star Wars sets released in a given year and are likely to have many of the named characters already. However, a lot of people seem happy with this Luke Skywalker minifigure so that's great!
Great mini-figure. I have an older version of this Luke, so its nice to have a newer one to go with it.
