Star Wars Advent Calendar Review: Day 20

Jabba's palace houses not only the Hutt and his retinue but also a collection of vehicles and equipment which are employed during his various criminal enterprises. These range in size from an enormous sail barge known as the Khetanna right down to individual cargo skiffs.

This is a tiny model but it captures a remarkable amount of detail using just ten pieces, including the steering vanes, angled hull plating and even the retractable gangplank of the skiff in the movie! You can adjust the steering vanes during flight and could remove the 2x2 corner plate underneath to display the model with the gangplank retracted.

It is worth noting that the reddish 1x2 slope with lattice appears in only three other sets so is fairly rare. The other pieces are fairly common but look splendid, with an accurate colour scheme of brown, dark tan and grey. My only criticism of this model is that the gangplank is placed two plates below the deck and there is an unsightly gap as a result. However, I am not sure how this could be resolved at such a small scale and you can easily remove the 2x2 corner plate if you prefer.

Overall - 4.0 - This is a good rendition of the Bantha-II Cargo Skiff but the positioning of the gangplank is a little awkward.

Eh. Although they did the best they could, I think the model is unrecognizable. When I built it this morning, I assumed it was some kind of ship or something. Only when I came back to it an hour later did I guess it might be a skiff. I can't really think of how it could be improved; it just doesn't lend itself well to representation at this scale.

Totally agree with "TIE-Guy". Model is unrecognizable. I also thought it was supposed to be some sort of speeder bike. But, at least the Star Wars Calendar hasn't gone the same way as Lego Friends, - which is just god awful embarrassing. Altogether this hasn't been a bad Lego advent calendar at all. So can forgive today's minor design glitch.

By in United States,

Stoked! Now with last year we've got micro scale Jabbas Palace, Skiff, Sarlacc and Sail Barge!

1) Remove the 1x1 cheese from the back.
2) Rotate 90 degrees clockwise and place on ramp stud.
3) Enjoy the SkiffSlide! Just one of the many attractions available at Jabba's Fun Palace!

By in United States,

I rather like the skiff. And also a minor detail with the order of the ROTJ offerings; Luke is not wearing a black glove until after the rescue on Tatooine. If one was being nerdy and all that. Another reason a cloak version of him or at least without the glove might have been preferred.

Eh it's ok. I did instantly recognise it as a Bantha-II Skiff.

Man, this would be great for a printed trophy figure piece with Luke to stand on the gangplank.

By in Puerto Rico,

Looks cute, wonder what a mini Rancor would look like.

Definitely the low point of the advent calendar so far

i thought it was a landspeeder lol

By in United States,

Did recognize it as a skiff, but the size doesn't help. It's tough to recreate the skiff this small. I like the colors, but it's an OK effort.

By in United States,

Recognized the skiff but completely underwhelmed by it this late in the calendar. Weakest entry yet.

By in United Kingdom,

I think it is a particularly good entry. When I first saw it on the flap I thought it was Dooku's speeder bike but when I had a proper look at it on the card as I built it I recognised it. It has quite a lot of detail and I don't see the problem people seem to have with it.

Until I read this, I also thought it was Dooku's speeder. A little puzzled by the bit sticking out the side but I just assumed his speeder was asymmetrical. Not seen that movie enough to know any different.

By in Guernsey,

I sense a theme going here as I too thought it was some kind of speeder. Even when I see it next to a picture of the "real" skiff I have to confess I can't really see much of a resemblance. Still, it's a rare miss for what has otherwise been a good calendar.

By in Norway,

Recognized the model. Since the theme on the last days has been on Return of the Jedi with the Hut and Luke. It had to be more of this. Off course it could had changed theme again.

Using the highly scientific level of 5yr old excitement scale I can safely say this is the most disappointing model yet. Anyway, let's pretend that we haven't looked at the box and worked out what we still haven't got yet...

Definitely the weakest model so far.

By in United States,

Lego could've done better. When I looked at it I thought it was a speeder

Gravatar
By in United States,

Agreed, unrecognizable. I too thought it a speeder bike at first take.

By in United States,

Had to look closely to figure out what it was. Though it's a tough model to make mini.

By in United Kingdom,

I think making a mini sail barge would have been a better idea here, as the skiff is just too small and thin for a proper representation. This is about as good as we'll get at this scale, but I might remove the plank. At least I can use the 2x1 vent elsewhere.

My son didn't get the skiff. He got another P-Tower turret from day 8. He was very disappointed.

@EndeRamses if you want to get technical, as far as I remember he's wearing a totally different outfit in Jabba's Palace, more of a robe than a jumpsuit. This fig is the outfit he wears on board the Death Star

Great!

By in United States,

@JonMarten You are indeed correct sir! My confusion is that this fig is between Jabba's Palace and the skiff. As these calendars tend to run with mini-themes for a few days at a time, a cloaked Luke would have been more appropriate. But I'm glad so many people are pleased with him.

By in United States,

We weren't sure what it was at first either. BUT put it with the sail barge and sarlacc mini-models from calendars past, and it makes a very recognizable scene!

By in United Kingdom,

@enderamses, ah, I see your point! As I have the desert skiff Luke I'm happy to have this one, but you know what would have been nice? An Endor camo Luke. I don't think we've seen him since 1999!

Gravatar
By in United States,

It took me forever to work out that that just might be one of Jabba's skiffs. My first thought was " wow, they actually made a LEGO Moldy Crow?" Yeah no such luck.

By in United States,

THANK YOU for clarifying what this is! I was trying to figure it out.
