Go inside 70620 NINJAGO City with Yahoo

Posted by ,

The beautiful direct-to-consumer 70620 NINJAGO City was just revealed by LEGO earlier today, set to be released on September 1st in LEGO Brand Stores and at shop.LEGO.com.

Weighing in at almost 5000 pieces, it is the biggest set released under the NINJAGO line - already dwarfing 70618 Destiny's Bounty with number of parts and making 70751 Temple of Airjitzu look like a baby. It is also the third biggest set of all time - 10189 Taj Mahal and 10179 Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon still beat it out.

How does such an impressive set - with so many references, details and a status as the flagship set of a significant product line - get developed? Yahoo has gone behind the scenes and you can read their article here, featuring stunning concept art from the upcoming film and more.

Thank you for sharing this in-depth analysis/article. It has convinced me further to buy this set, which will become my first modular. Still can't believe this beast will retail for only 300 bucks.

By in Greece,

One of the best articles in Brickset for a rather interesting set. Always nice to know the thoughts behind a creation. Too expensive for most of us, nevertheless a real gem in our beloved Ninjago line

Just fabulous! Lots of fun details in this kit!
Great to see the concept art. Hope they include it in the sets booklet.
Ah...warms my heart to see that Comic Book shop. Could eat at that rooftop sushi bar all day long.
Must get for me! The price is GREAT for almost 5k pieces.

C'mon Lego. I'm spending enough money already on the Bounty, and now you hit me with this too?

I normally would not get a Ninjago set...however this might be a must in my city

By in Norway,

I might be wrong, but is that a couple of Sand Green 2x2 Macaroni pieces?!
People who recently bought those for €50+ each will be disappointed!

Total bargain for the price I'd say. Over 4900 pieces for £260? The Deathstar is £400 for only 3800.

I wonder how it will look with the Modulars...

To GrizBe :

this kinda shows what the license fees for Disney Merchandise could be.. in my opinion "unsubstential". But then no wonder that Disney doesnt hesitate to put 300M into new Pirates movie.. :/

It's interesting how the designers managed to merge various concepts from potentially different parts of the movie and city design into quite a cohesive beast of a model rising sky high - particularly with the random touches like the puffer fish and squid up there. I'm actually very fond of the 'Bladerunner meets Zootopia' vibe and I didn't think it could work, but in the flesh it seems like it does. I'd still like to see it with my own eyes though to consider a purchase.

Complete rip-off unless you're in US/UK. As usual.

I want this set so bad.

That looks like it might be a lot of fun to build. Will take a closer look but will likely get this eventually.

Definitely has that "Bladerunner" feel. So much going on in a contemporary city block. It doesn't work with the Ameri-Euro "Mayberry" modulars and doesn't match the style of the traditional temple, so this one is a trailblazer in LEGO world.

I was uninterested about the Ninjago movie since I never was a Ninjago collector, but after seeing how cool is this set, I'm very anxious about the movie now.

I loved the article and how it gave us a look at what goes behind the scenes at designing Lego sets.
