Second 2020 Speed Champions set revealed
Posted by Huw,
Today, a second 2020 Speed Champions set, 76899 Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO & Urus ST-X, was revealed at an event in Spain, although it seems to have gone under the radar somewhat.
I believe that Lamborghini has issued a press release but I can't find the original anywhere so have quoted an extract from Sportscar 365 after the break.
The set will include two vehicles, which are both eight-wide: A black Huracán Super Trofeo EVO supercar and a racing variant of the company's SUV, the Urus ST-X, which looks to be lime green although there are no decent photos of it around yet.
The twin-pack will be released on January 1st.
“We’re extremely excited to welcome Lamborghini into the LEGO Speed Champions family, and can’t wait to see what this partnership brings,” said Chris Stamp, LEGO Speed Champions design manager specialist.
“As one of the most famous automotive brands in the world, Lamborghini has always been on our dream list. It’s just been a question of when.
“Fortunately, 2020 marks the start of a new chapter for LEGO Speed Champions with the evolution to the more accurate ‘8 Studs Wide’ design and we felt that we could now do the popular brand justice.
“Especially the wide body of the Huracan Super Trefeo Evo, and with the awesome Urus ST-X we also introduce our first super SUV into the theme, which fans will hopefully be just as thrilled with as we are.”

I had seen this news on a sports car racing website first, but the pictures were lacking it seemed. I'm glad to see better ones here.
I like both, although I wish they could have found a way to create brick headlights on the Huracan as opposed to a sticker.
Edit: Turns out you found the news from the same website I did.
Least its not another Porsche...
I never bought any Speed Champions because of the 6-wide thing, so I'm very glad that they're releasing such awesome 8-wide vehicles. I'll put 'em on the list!
Excellent, a Lambo. We'll see how we all like the seemingly inevitable 8 wides.... Checkout Lambo's merchandise..... a truly Awful Meccano set that could be any car, to a £7000 suitcase. Wow. Bet the Lego will be for sale at £99.99 on there soon. Hopefully cheaper everywhere else.
Cool. I like the 8-wide bodies.
Huracán as in Hurricane boy are we familiar with that word in storm alley.
Actually it’s Huracán as in a celebrated fighting bull, like their other supercars.
Call me old fashioned but no 6-wide, no buy for me.
Going to be honest, not sure how I feel about the change to 8 studs wide.
Edit: I wonder if they will use a size increase to justify a price increase?
@yamaki- You're old fashioned ;-)
For some cars 8 wide is good, such as I can understand it for a 'formula 1' car since they are rather large but I am very annoyed at this choice since now Speed Champions cars will be too large for a regular city!
Any news of any old cars being released?
If it looks good enough, I’m definitely down for 8-wife. I’m not sure I’m down from what we’ve seen so far, though that may have more to do with vehicle choice than anything.
In a kinda Lego OCD way the change from 6 to 8 studs wide doesn't compute for me. I’ve got all the Speed Champ cars and the display will just look odd with the change in scale.
.......Scratch that..... it’s a Lamborghini - I’M IN
I was hoping for an LP500S.
What I liked with the 6-wide builds was that it could be better integrated into LEGO cities or towns without looking too out of proportion to other cars considering a LEGO fire engine is 6 studs wide, but it definitely sacrifices the accuracy and detail that these iconic cars need to highlight. I welcome the 8-wide range since I make some of my moc cars 8-wide anyway.
On the one hand I'll be happy if the new 8 wide cars are able to sit Minifigures side-by-side, and possibly 2 more in the back as well, w/o becoming wayyy to big. On the other hand, they'll look out of place in my city. Then again, there are actual problems I could focus on, but those are much less fun.
i'm getting two
@supervir2 6-wife is enough for me!
And if cars go 8 wide, how wide do I have to make my trains?
The only Lambourghini that should be 8 studs wide is the Lambourghini Mach VRT!
Ferrari will be happy about that collaboration...
Great, finally some Lamborghinis! 8-wide definitely looking better for the cars, just needed bigger wheels too, but it's okay.
Still waiting for some Japanese brands.
Great that we’re getting Lambos...
...but I’m annoyed about the scale change, after years of collecting the series’ at 6-wide. They’re too big for a city, and will look odd if displayed with all the previous cars.
Speed Champions is coming up to be one of my favourite themes in recent years. Loving all of them, 2020 seems to be an exciting year for the theme excited to see the other sets.
Lamborghinis!!! EPIC!!!
Never mind these where's the press release for the new Batmobile that's coming out
Yay! Now that they need an Aston Martin Vulcan! Also, I always wondered why there was no partnership as they had one way back in Racers.
8-wide is a pass, from me. Yeah, sometimes the 6-wide looked odd, but it's gonna look much stranger with a jump in width like that.
I finally started to like the 6-wide ones. Is the rear window detailing on the first car a sticker or printing?
Correction: It's definitely stickers
I'm really annoyed by the 8-wide as the cars scales look very good and it makes me question my own Lego city design decisions...
Is that a new windshield mold on the black car? It looks really good.
These actually look pretty good! I'm sort of skeptical about changing the width from 6 to 8 studs, but I feel it helps the proportions and details of the cars extensively.
And, the itchy Urus. Yeah, I just had to say it...
Just gave up on that rear end and slapped a couple of stickers on top ay. Good one Lego.
Two packs bother me. I didn't get the Mini pack because of the ogrecious green monstrosity. At least they released a separate Porsche 911 later on.
YES! I’ve always wanted a Lambourghini Speed Champions set... or just one in general ;)
Kind of conflicted, obviously 8-stud-wide cars are going to look odd alongside the previous 6-stud-wide ones, but one that is on my dream list is a Lamborghini Countach so seeing any Speed Champion Lamborghini seems like a step in that direction.
In general I've been happy with the six-wide versions of European cars, but once Speed Champions began to include cars I really *knew,* like the Mustang, I couldn't cope with how narrow they were for their length. I'm thrilled to see the more natural proportions the 8-wide cars exhibit, and I'll happily try to build some of the American cars (Mustang and 'Vette, at least!) to the same scale. After all, there should be room in them for two minifigs in reasonable comfort!
Had to include the Urus otherwise nobody would buy that one.
Well, can't say I've been waiting for these specifically, but given my track record I'll probably end up buying these.
Those look brilliant! I was a bit worried how the Lamborghinis would turn out if they were ever made, but these are great! Looking forward to the release.
8-wide looks awesome.
Now I want them to go back and re-release all of their old cars in that same scale!
I know Speed Champions are sticker hell, but at least some look good even with only a minimum of stickers applied. I am not so sure this will be true for these new ones.
As for 8-wide versus 6-wide, I have not yet made up my mind about that. Will have to separate the different types on display at least I guess.
8-wide...but in the Lamborghini, one a minifigure can be sat!! There is no place for two!! Uncorrectly designed.
This is annoying as my all time favourite car - The Ferrari F40 - was released in the old style.
On the bright side though since we have Lambo on board ... where is the car everyone wants? where is the Countach? =3
Gutted. Lets let people collect a theme of 6 wide, then start making them 8 wide
Wish they'd have called them SC+, so at least we had a differentiator
@supervir2, there's a few states out west where you can get by w/that. Although I'd say be careful what you wish for. Only one is a handful for me, she really puts a wrecking hammer to my LEGO budget, something about "needs" before "wants." Whatever.
It will be the 10th anniversary of the last Lamborghini set when this is released!
Yay, finally we have Lamborghini in SC! And it's with the updated dimensions! As for the SUVs, I'm waiting for any German one, even though it is not likely.
RIP, real Speed Champions, 2015-2019. You were beautiful while you lasted.
I have to have all of these new suvs and crossovers I don’t mind that they are 8 wide.
wow that lambo seems to have more stickers then actual bricks :S
Still buying all Speed Champions and converting to 6 wide or taking them apart and using parts to build other 6 wide vehicles. What a novel concept with LEGO.
Hopefully a Centenario comes up later down the line and/or an Aventador.
Are they still going to be $30?
Extract from 'Sportscar365'
"The 659-piece building set, including the two race cars, start ‘lights’ and two driver minifigures, will be available to buy from Jan. 1, 2020." so might be more than $30 or £34.99
The 8 wide looks great. Wish we could have an 8 wide Ferrari 488.
*Sigh* so close/so far...I love the Huracán, but the Urus...:P. I wanted Lambos day one in this series, and when you look over back-catalog of their cars (Countach, Diabo, etc.)...and they went w/an SUV...yesh.
Hopefully, if Speed Champions is still around after this series, then TLG can put out a set like the Porshe, Chevy, or Ford sets. Ones where they have a modern car vs. a classic, drag race style.
Meanwhile, I will build the one (Huracán), and (in the words of the great Chris Jericho) NEEEEEEVER...EEEEEEVVER...the other...:)
