Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 11
Posted by CapnRex101,Our second exclusive minifigure arrived on day ten. Another model should accordingly emerge today and I anticipate something more relating to the Great Hall at Hogwarts.
Find out what appears next after the break...
Another dining table from the Great Hall appears today. This model is almost identical to the rendition from day seven, differing only because its golden feet are now assembled using 1x1 round plates with hollow studs. The reddish brown and dark brown colour scheme does remain intact though, along with smooth 1x6 tiles forming the benches.
The candle on top differentiates this table from its predecessor too, incorporating both the trans-orange flame and candle pieces which were introduced during 2018. In addition, I like this ornate candle holder that allows minifigures to grip the candle. This corresponds with many of the candles that appear during the films, although lanterns and wands are more common for exploring the castle at night.
Overall - 3.0 - Finding another table behind door eleven is slightly disappointing, although I like the new candle holder and the dining table does look attractive.

Candles rack!
I am fearful we are going to get another day for food/table objects with no real build, and then a strong possibility of two more banners out there. The table is nice and has a decent number of parts, but repetitive builds might be the main weakness of the advent calendar.
What... What's up with this thing giving nearly identical builds more than once?
I like that candle though
With builds like these, I'm surprised Star Wars is still behind.
Battle of the Licensed Advent Calendars continues. HP fans are feeling confident after restoring a two point buffer over SW, and are anxious to extend their lead heading into Day 11. Behind the door is yet another table build, this time with an attractive candle on top. While the table build itself is useful, we've already seen this in the advent calendar. The ratio of tables to minifigs is now 2:3, which seems too high. As such, today's HP offering is a bit of a disappointment.
On the other hand, SW offered a micro build of a turbolaser battery. The build has a nice color scheme consistent with the theme, with the added bones of some functionality. However, this build, isn't make heads turn and doesn't provide a "wow" factor in any way, shape, or form.
Both advent calendars should feel slightly embarrassed at their meek entries on Day 11. But based on the fact that HP has already offered us a table, and with the reviewers score of 3.5 for SW vs 3.0 for HP, a sheepish point goes to SW. The race remains exceptionally close, and the score is now:
HP- 6
SW- 5
To be continued...
If there was one more candlestick there would have been enough spares to make another whole lamp! Definitely appreciating the spares today, despite the unexciting build.
Boring as some of these days may be, I like how it seems to be building a single coherent scene.
Beginning to understand what the designer meant when he said that production of this calendar was rushed out due to the unexpectedly overwhelming popularity of Harry Potter. Here's hoping next year's will be a bigger improvement given more time to develop.
