Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 9

Posted by ,

Ahch-To has become the latest focus of this Star Wars Advent Calendar, although the model from yesterday was comparatively unpopular so scope for improvement remains.

Hopefully something more appealing will appear on day nine...

Exclusive minifigures have appeared in every Star Wars Advent Calendar and Luke Skywalker is an excellent example, taking inspiration from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. This dark tan hair piece appears accurately bedraggled and returns from 75200 Ahch-To Island Training, where the double-sided head also originates. Luke's facial expressions are perfect, conveying calm resignation and anger.

Furthermore, I like the dark brown shawl that compares favourably with the movie and Luke's shabby belt looks marvellous too. A more colourful minifigure may have been more appropriate for the festive season but this definitely appears authentic. The former Jedi includes his wooden walking cane and a pearl silver fish, caught in the waters surrounding Temple island.

Overall - 5.0 - I am very pleased with this exclusive minifigure which closely resembles the onscreen character and includes brilliant detail.

So when will this figure be in another set then LEGO, or a book or a promo. It happened with the "exclusive" U-3PO protocol droid in the 2016 Star Wars Advent Calendar who was later sold in a book.

If any day deserved a 5.0, it was this one.

I hope the force projection version will appear in a 20$ duel set!

"The ugliest SW figure ever produced.
Enjoyed looking hobo Luke.
And this "cheerful" figure is in an advent calendar."

A bit harsh, isn't it? Doesn't look so bad to me, and it portrays the character accurately.

Battle of the Licensed Advent Calendars continues. After Day 8 saw HP take another point from SW, HP fans entered Day 9 feeling optimistic. However, upon opening door number 9, flashbacks to the massacre of day 5 hit HP fans like a ton of bricks. What greeted them was another dreaded flag. While the flag's rare colors cry out to be appreciated, they can't salvage the day, as an exclusive Old Luke minifig graced SW fans.

In a monumental, unequivocal, and incomparable landslide, SW takes the easiest point it may ever get. The gap is closing fast on HP, and the score now stands:

HP- 5
SW- 4

To be continued...

The best gift this year to me for the moment. Unique design, nice printings and as mentioned by Cap'n brilliant details, a unique minifig in an advent calendar is always welcome and a good surprise. It will find its place on Ahch'to Island next to Rey while she's training with the boulder, with Chewie roasting his chicken (I don't dare say Porg) on the small campfire in front of Luke's stone hut entrance. First 5/5.

At last, a very good figure in this calendar. After so many days of rubble... And truely worthy of 5 points, Captain Rex.

Welcome back! Fantastic mini review as always.

I like this version of Luke, although I wish an exclusive face print was designed. It’s definitely better than yesterday’s though!

No Clikits today?

To quote a certain Sith Lord, "impressive most impressive"!

I'm surprised to see no Clickits today. I had assumed that each advent article was prepared in advance, then thrown on a queue to release at the correct time because each article is released neatly on the hour. Maybe @Huw (bot) finally got sick of Clickits.

This fig is really all I wanted from this calendar, I’m surprised it’s not the final day’s offering.

@AustinPowers and @AstroDroid - I expect Huwbot has become temporarily exhausted. After all, it has selected 342 random sets of the day so far this year, not to mention creating countless Amazon discount articles!

Magnificently mighty mullet!

I'm still trying to figure out who the faceprint reminds me of.

Most appealing minifigure or set in the calendar.

I'd agree with the rating for this if it wasn't the 9th Sequel Trilogy item from the Advent Calendar so far. Considering the 2018 Calendar I've been opening had more variety and more models from across the Star Wars Saga, this Sequel Heavy year is really starting to grate on me. And that isn't a knock against Luke here or the ST in general, it just seems that for an Advent Calendar about the Festive Holidays we've gotten a lot more somber items the past 9 days, mostly black, white, grey and brown colours. Ach-To was the most colorful release so far this year, it's kind of making me a tad depressed, and that isn't what I want from my LEGO models.

I love this minifig. Very happy with it. Looks just like old bitter man Luke. Always nice to get exclusives from the calendar.

The figs looks great, but I'd never guessed that it's Luke.
