Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 11

Posted by ,

Following several days of relative mediocrity, the newest Star Wars Advent Calendar has improved recently. For this reason, my expectations for the next item are particularly high.

Hopefully day eleven will prove satisfying...

Characters and vehicles from the Sequel Trilogy have dominated the 2019 Star Wars Advent Calendar during its first ten days. However, this turbolaser battery most faithfully resembles emplacements which protect the Death Star, especially because of its elevated position. That design reflects the early movies and the textured detail on the base appears equally authentic in my opinion.

The structure is designed around one stud at its centre, thereby enabling the weapon to rotate and the barrels can elevate individually. This colour scheme of light bluish grey and dark bluish grey is effective too, faithfully recreating the onscreen turbolaser turrets. Its angular shape is not wholly accurate though but improving that would be difficult at this scale.

Overall - 3.5 - I am quite pleased with this turbolaser tower which includes some lovely detail, although stationary structures offer lower potential play value than vehicles.

I added the extra dark grey square tile on top to cover the stud. Think it looks even better!

Battle of the Licensed Advent Calendars continues. HP fans are feeling confident after restoring a two point buffer over SW, and are anxious to extend their lead heading into Day 11. Behind the door is yet another table build, this time with an attractive candle on top. While the table build itself is useful, we've already seen this in the advent calendar. The ratio of tables to minifigs is now 2:3, which seems too high. As such, today's HP offering is a bit of a disappointment.

On the other hand, SW offered a micro build of a turbolaser battery. The build has a nice color scheme consistent with the theme, with the added bones of some functionality. However, this build, isn't make heads turn and doesn't provide a "wow" factor in any way, shape, or form.

Both advent calendars should feel slightly embarrassed at their meek entries on Day 11. But based on the fact that HP has already offered us a table, and with the reviewers score of 3.5 for SW vs 3.0 for HP, a sheepish point goes to SW. The race remains exceptionally close, and the score is now:

HP- 6
SW- 5

To be continued...

Something that can destroy the monstrosity from Day 8, I hope so lol.

A nice complete build in my opinion, very well put together plus another 2 (plus an extra) of the 6227897 1x1 Round Plate with Handle piece in grey.

Ours came with an extra dark grey square tile AND an extra laser so naturally my 8 year old differed far from what is shown in the movies and placed them on top, making ours a tri-laser blaster.

Not very exciting, but we're headed for Imperial stuff now, that's good.

Like yesterday it was only when I assembled it did I realise what it was! Definitely this Advent Calendar is beginning to establish some good form of late.

Thank you, I wasn't entirely sure if this was Starkiller Base related or not. I honestly have a hard time recognizing some things at this scale. Nice to see something from beyond the ST at this point.

Definitely happy to have something original trilogy related, hope it'll have some prequel trilogy stuff soon too. I prefer it when the whole franchise gets equal representation.
