Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 12

Posted by ,

Numerous items based upon the Sequel Trilogy have appeared within the new Star Wars Advent Calendar. However, attention now appears to be shifting towards previous films.

Find out whether that continues after the break...

Succeeding the turbolaser turret that emerged yesterday, this Imperial Gunner is ideal. The minifigure features suitable decoration across the torso and legs, including metallic silver highlights with realistic creasing which compares favourably with the onscreen gunners. The head looks good too, displaying an attractive headset underneath the helmet.

This helmet features the white Imperial emblem which has only otherwise appeared in 75217 Imperial Conveyex Transport and 75246 Death Star Cannon, contrasting with the earlier metallic silver version. That design certainly appears more faithful to the source material and the helmet includes marvellous moulded detail, as usual. A black blaster pistol is also provided, suggesting that no weapon racks will be necessary!

Overall - 4.0 - Imperial Gunners are relatively common but this example looks superb and I appreciate its connecting theme with the turbolaser tower from yesterday.

By in Germany,

Always a solid addition to a Star Destroyer or Death Star, and with a nice face print to boot.

My second one of theses characters, and I'm more than happy about having him. Though I did get my first one from a Annual for a £1, so not a very collectable geezer I guess.

Very detailed figure though. I'm starting to like this advent more and more now, plus today marks half way through Advent so just 12 more days, yay :)

By in Ireland,

This is my first Imperial Gunner and dare I say it but I think this minifigure is a work of art. Definitely this Advent Calendar is going from strength to strength after a slow start.

It's quite funny because it's also my second Imperial Gunner as I also got my first one from the Annual (I think that I also got it for around £1 from Amazon).

By in Canada,

Battle of the Licensed Advent Calendars continues. Heading into Day 12, the slumping HP calendar holds a tenuous one point lead on SW, the latter of which has gained some momentum of late. Behind HP's door 12 was another repetitive offering to pair with yesterday's gift. While an additional pearl silver plate is more than welcome, as well as the rare yellow pie, today's gift is yet another re-hash of accessories with no real build. While the HP calendar may be trending toward an "overall scene", today's entry in and of itself is not a strong one, in any sense of the word.

On the flip side, SW fans were treated to another minifigure, this time a rendition of an Imperial Gunner. While the author rightfully points out that this fig is fairly common, the printing on certain elements is rare, offering fans a pleasant entry on Day 12. For those reasons, and reflected in the reviewer's scores, SW takes a commanding point.

And with that folks, for the first time this holiday season, the score is tied at:

HP- 6
SW- 6

Tomorrow's entry will be a pivotal day in this seasonal battle!

To be continued...

By in United Kingdom,

That helmet design has always been a great favourite of mine. The source material gives a vibe of Medieval armour, especially in the snout/muzzle area. Also all the Death Star gunner/trooper helmets are heavily influenced by WW2 US Navy anti-aircraft/artillery headwear.

Source material aside, the Lego rendition is fantastic. I wouldn’t mind a dozen in my collection. I also like the modest change of colour to the Imperial logo, a nice way to differentiate them from the previous incarnations.

It's not a minibuild, but I'm fine with this.

I haven't even taken the Potter bits out of the bag today.

The last time an Imperial Gunner appeared, I wished it had Jyn's head and a bonus hairpiece for her. That way, you get a dual purpose Imperial Gunner (who's a female!) AND a scene-specific Jyn if you want one.

Twice in a row, no dice. Oh well.

The head print isn't an angry clone!

You said that last year as well...

The scene with these guys from the 1977 film is burned into my brain. I can remember the sound of the Death Star reactor so clearly and the look of these guys' helmets is so awesome.

I always find it interesting that these are pretty much the only troopers which Lego gives a non-clone head. I guess their reasoning is because they are not in combat?

Pretty snazzy looking, I don't have any other versions of this minifig, so it's nice to have
