Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 2

Posted by ,

Day one yielded an excellent A-wing Starfighter model and expectations for the second day are high. Hopefully something similarly impressive will emerge.

Find out after the break...

Seasonal minifigures have become a highlight of LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendars and our first such character is arriving early during 2020! This version of Poe Dameron looks fantastic, wearing a unique Christmas jumper with BB-8 knitted on the front. The angular design of this printing looks completely authentic and I think the red highlights are effective here, matching real Christmas jumpers which often require some compromises where accurate colours are concerned.

Intricate decoration continues onto the reverse and the stark contrast between Poe's green jumper and his dark red trousers looks suitably abrupt. Of course, this minifigure shares his clothing with the character from the recent LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special which is fun and it would be equally appropriate for festive minifigures in a Winter Village or City environment.

Despite his seasonal attire, Poe remains ready for action so carries a blaster pistol beside his red mug. Furthermore, the head is the same as other Poe Dameron minifigures so features a smile on one side and a grimace on the other. As the Holiday Special demonstrates, Life Day can be stressful so it is hardly surprising that Poe is feeling the pressure!

Overall - 5.0 - Previous seasonal Star Wars minifigures have been enjoyable and Poe Dameron continues this annual tradition perfectly!

When I opened him from the Advent Calendar, there was a hidden letter on his flap. Could the seven - digit code be randomly spread throughout the minifigs in the calendar?

I’m still processing the holiday special, but I absolutely love this fig! I also love the continuity between the holiday special, and the advent calendar.

Indeed it is! Although there's a second code hidden behind a sticker on the front of the box.

I don't really see that much of a Star Wars connection here, other than the stylized BB8 on the sweater. Not necessarily a bad thing though, as this figure (without the blaster) fits well into any Christmas or Winter Village scene.

A forgettable version of a forgettable character, how fitting.

Love all the Christmas sweaters out this year across a bunch of sets.

Another member of my LUG once asked my advice on what shades of green and red to use for Christmas pennants that he was going to decorate his streetlights with for club displays. I'll say the same thing here that I said back then. Bright red and green look fine. Dark red and green also look fine. Dark green and bright red look fine. For some reason, dark red and bright green just look wrong together.

Mine didn't have a code on the front of the box. Am I missing something?

By in United States,

Its a fun little figure, although the Chrimbo jumper/grimace face combo shown in the last pic is a little unsettling :)

Everyone has their own personal take on Star Wars, and quite rightly so, but my version doesn’t really have a convenient place for the festive characters. As I said, it is a fun minifig, great for Christmas and all that, but this and others such as the snow Wookie etc. are low ranking novelty items in my collection as throughout the rest of the year they are a little incongruous.

Personally, I would much prefer a SW Advent Calendar minifigs to be rare or uncommon characters, mixed with army builders to make up the numbers rather than comedic festive characters. I know, SW fans are never happy and its a little naive to expect 6 or 7 brand new minfigs in an Advent Calendar, but we can all dream cant we?!? And I also appreciate this is an opinion very specific to AFOLs, rather than the majority audience of the calendar. So not a whinge, just a point of view.

Are the two codes for different things?

By in United States,

The angry expression makes Poe looks like he’s heard “all I want for Christmas is you” too many times and has finally snapped.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yeah, Angry Poe is best Poe. Sure, it is lazy reuse rather than intentional, but I like the idea that Poe gets really grumpy around Life Day.

By in Germany,

So, this Poe Dameron, is he from the Mandalorian, or what`?

I love the BB8 image on his jumper! Tasteful jumper too!

Are the codes unique or the same in each calendar? Asking because I'm doing an unboxing video and don't want to reveal my code and make is useless to me.

I got mine from Target, and it has a peel-away sticker on the box with an additional code to a unlock Darth Vader in a Christmas sweater that matches his calendar minifigure.

I just watched the ORIGINAL Holiday Special the day before Thanksgiving and a week later I am very much still processing it.

I watched that back when it aired in 1978... and I’m still processing it.

Process this, Star Wars fans: https://propsdept.bandcamp.com/album/the-mos-eisley-rap-show-ep

Listen through until the end for the most obscure reference, ever.

There appears to be at least two versions of the box as mine does not have a sticker. Just a black square declaring that a secret code could be found somewhere inside.

Usually I have the same opinion (I even un-holiday-ed the porg in last year's calendar) but I really like this sweater for some reason, even though I don't even have a normal Poe figure yet. It's just so detailed and festive.

@tkatt:
The stickered version was reported as showing up at Target some time after the initial wave of DWACs sold out. Generally speaking, these codes are generic, meaning everyone uses the same code. Someone will probably publish both, so if you don't have the calendar (or you didn't get a copy with a sticker), you can just hunt (or ask) around for one and plug it into the game to see what happens. I believe the box code gets you this version of Poe, and the sticker code gets you a similar version of a character who will appear on a later date.

@KnightOfRen:
You can set your feed to ignore them, when you're logged in. They also drop off the front page once the next day's post is up, though that's not terribly helpful since the next day's post goes straight to the top of the page while the previous day's would probably get bumped to the second page anyways.

By in Canada,

I love the idea of Star Wars characters in tacky Christmas sweaters. I just wish they had used a real Star Wars character instead of Poe Dameron.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

I wish they had Luke (to go with Vader) instead, but this is accurate to the special on Disney+ so I can't fault it

I would love it if we'd finally get an advent calendar with uncommon/rare alien heads (doubly so since I use LEGO figs for my Star Wars RPG). That being said, the Christmas sweaters from Poe today and from Vader later on are what made me decide to get this year's calendar, after skipping last year.
