Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 6
Posted by CapnRex101,
Two different movie trilogies and one television series have already been visited during the first five days of the new Star Wars Advent Calendar, offering considerable variety.
Perhaps another trilogy will emerge today...
TIE-series vehicles have appeared in the majority of Star Wars Advent Calendars and the latest example looks especially impressive, depicting the lethal TIE Dagger. This model makes perfect use of the recent 2x3½ wedge plates which form the angular solar arrays, corresponding with the bigger 75272 Sith TIE Fighter in that respect. The cockpit sphere looks good too, featuring a trans-black viewport and trans-red 1x1 round plate that depicts the engine.
I was pleasantly surprised by the rigidity of this tiny model which is superb for play, although the onscreen TIE Daggers feature prominent red highlights. The starfighter looks somewhat strange without them here, although incorporating such subtle details at this scale would have been very difficult. Exposed studs do remain on each solar array but anything other than the tiniest element would probably introduce too much red. The trans-clear elements shown above are not included.
Overall - 4.5 - This model features realistic proportions and provides great play value. Admittedly, the red highlights are absent but incorporating them would be nearly impossible at this scale.

Not the easiest to display without propping it up
Maybe red grill tiles would do on the wings.
Red, but only on the "edges".
I'll just pretend it's a TIE Vector (the superior triangular TIE) and rotate the wings around for landing mode.
They had a great 1x1 round tile w/ TIE cockpit print. You'd think that if they plan to keep doing TIE ships in these calendars, they'd keep that print in production. This is really pushing the limit for how small you can go before the model becomes unrecognizable. The 2x2 round plates holding the wings together really throw things off and make it harder to see the center pod as a sphere, but there isn't any better option that I can think of. I just checked the 2x2 turntable top, and the hub is just a teeny bit too small to be gripped by a hollow stud.
I share this calendar with my brother and I open the even numbered soI was very happy to find that it wasn’t a mini figure because 2 and 4 were both figs. A micro build is a welcome alternative and this is a good scale to fight the Razorcrest or A-wing.
When I built it this morning, I had a feeling it was the TIE Dagger. The designer executed it well, for as small as it is. (Tad too small to add red, but valiant effort.) Good score.
I love these micro builds. Without doubt this year's Advent calendar is outstanding.
Good build, but I think you might be too generous. It’s more of a 3.5 or 4 for me, given the lack of red or a stand. Not bad though.

I wouldn't fault it for those. As stated, red would be very hard to do, and they've only done stands for UCS stuff. Which is the exact opposite end of the scale from this.

OTOH, your poor brother has NO minifigs. If things become disproportionate, perhaps you might want to trade with him

A stand could have been built with just 2 clear pieces. It has been done in other SW advent calendars.
Not too bad a build overall although I feel it borders on being almost too simplistic even for a calendar micro build. The A Wing and Razorcrest are still the better vehicle builds so far.
