NINJAGO City Gardens: more images

Posted by ,

71741 NINJAGO City Gardens has now been added to LEGO.com and with it a lot more images including this one showing the rear of the structure, which so far has been a mystery.

As you can see it splits down into five storeys and each room contains a wealth of detail, as you'd expect. You can view more pictures the set details page although none are entirely satisfactory.

It will be available to LEGO VIPs on Thursday. Let's hope shipping to the UK resumes soon, then!

By in United Kingdom,

I just checked the sets catalog thing on brickset, and there were a bunch of high quality clear images and I was wondering why no one was reporting on them. Then, 5mins later here we are with the news on brickset!

Hang on, @Huw, what do you mean “let’s hope shipping in the uk resumes soon”? Has it been down? What’s going on?

404 error: looks like maybe it wasn’t supposed to be put on Lego.com yet!

Edit: guess it’s just the US

Continuing the trend from Police Station, 2 black connector pins seem to be missing.

Somewhere in Denmark there’s a big red button that instantly crashes the website for use when:
a) Lego accidentally leaks pictures of their own sets
b) More than 100 people get on the site to buy a newly released set.

By in Switzerland,

Awesome set, tempted to spend the extra money on express shipping to have it ready for building this weekend!

I'm also wondering if it would be possible to build it mirrored across the diagonal so that the closed off sections of the upper walkways are to the left (when viewed with the pond in front) rather than the right since it would integrate much better with the other two buildings in my layout...

Gravatar
By in Austria,

There seems to be no way to access the upper levels in the displayed configuration. So obviously, Lego has to release 2 more corner buildings and a Docks equivalent.

By in Switzerland,

Even though I'm logged in and a VIP, the site says "Coming Soon on 1 February 2021".
Is it confirmed that VIPs should have early access?

By in United Kingdom,

^^ we have delays and stock issues in the uk because of brexit.... remember the thousands of lorry drivers delayed at Dover...

If it ain’t currently in the uk then u ain’t getting it anytime soon. Not just Lego... everything!

Nothing has moved since 1st January. Orders placed then are still stuck either in the warehouse or DPDs depot in Belgium.

"Expand Your Ninjago City Gardens" Is it me or are they STRONGLY hinting at more? I don't want to get my hopes up, but there's just no way they would use old discontinued sets in their promo shots.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m concerned we’re going to have another Cantina situation with this set where it effectively never goes on sale in the US. The fact that it shows up on the Canadian site but not the American site is a bit scary.

Gravatar

I spy with my little eye: CLIKITS stickers!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’ve just spoken to Lego to see if they have any info on when orders placed on the 1st will be shipped. In short, they don’t know. They are wanting in DPD to confirm when they will come to collect orders.

70620 NINJAGO City and 70657 NINJAGO City Docks are obviously displayed in promotional shots but the image on the packaging actually shows this model connecting with itself.

Of course, I would love to see further NINJAGO city expansions in the future but I would not necessarily take that callout as a hint.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I did wonder why my small order was taking so long. Must be backing up. Hope they don't close the site to UK customers.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Seeing it from the back, it needs a bit 'more'...

Maybe an elevated walkway between the "Clikits" posters and the blue building?

But that's the great thing about LEGO: you just build whatever you want!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I like how for the "expand your ninjago city gardens" they just use a copy of the set since they can't advertise a retired product on the box.

Gravatar

In the museum... is that a flip-out 3x3 window attached to a treasure chest hinge?!? YOU CAN DO THAT? This just blew my mind!

Can anyone tell me what the 'attached' set is, that's shown on the LEGO website, where it shows that the set can attach to another??? (Set on the left)

As far as I can tell from the bricks and colours, it's neither Ninjago City or Ninjago City Docks.... and I'm now extremely intrigued

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It truly is a magnificent set! It completely fixes the problem I had with 70620 Ninjago City - unfinished look from "behind the scenes". It looks gorgeous from any side, no expense was spared. My only wish would be an inclusion of a second "walkaway end" module to fully display this model on its own. But that's only a handful of pieces so it should be easy to bricklink.

I actually find that blue connector pins work better (Design number 43093): They keep the alignment but it is a lot easier to switch out buildings on display.

By in United States,

In unrelated news -- the Mos Eisley Cantina is now available for backorder in the US.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I placed an order on the 1st January and it was delivered on the 6th January not really a delay and I am in the South East of England. So hoping I can order this without too much trouble.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I haven’t bought the other sets. Black Friday sales 2019 I ordered early and they ran out of stock, so I likely won’t pick this up. But by itself it blows away the other two sets. This is beautiful. But doesn’t go with anything so I’ll save $300 (and spend it on HP sets I was already going to get.)

Gravatar

I really, really hope this is actually available to ship on January 14th- my birthday's coming up!

Unfortunately, it looks as though that picture simply shows two copies of the Ninjago City Gardens being connected together. On the left you can see the sand blue pillar which sits right outside the tearoom, and on the right you can see the drainage pipe which is located below the Ninjago fan's apartment

There was just a $500 Colosseum and a modular police station. This isn't coming at the expense of modular buildings or large-scale landmarks, but in addition to them. And speaking as a Ninjago fan, it's honestly about time we had another set like this—the last D2C set was the original Ninjago City back in 2017.

Anyway, love the look of this set! There's so many great details and awesome techniques. Can't wait to get a copy for myself!

A ray of hope for UK deliveries. After saying its in Belgium since 6th, one of my 1st Jan orders is suddenly in Nottingham and being delivered tomorrow!! Fingers crossed it arrives safely and my second order gets out of the warehouse soon :)

For folks in the UK who are (understandably) bemoaning your postal challenges, rest assured that the USPS is in complete disarray, too. I had a small order shipped First Class from a Bricklink seller on December 15, 2020, and it seems to have disappeared.

Mine says it will arrive by 31st not shipped after. I’m sure this is just Lego suppressing dispatch until DPD are sure they can deal with delivery with the whole Brexit debacle. I’d much rather it be in the Lego warehouse than DPDs!

I got a Lego dispatch notice this morning followed by the delay notice this evening - very annoying! So if I ordered the gardens I imagine they will be well overgrown by the time they arrive...

This is DPD, not Lego. They've suspended all deliveries to/from the UK. So all orders not yet picked up from Lego are sitting in their warehouse until DPD resumes services. Which sounds like it might be happening now, but there'll be a big backlog to clear first.

By in United Kingdom,

I am guessing there will be a fourth set; as the city, docks and gardens don't make a perfect square and connected upper walkways.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The only thing I don't get/like about the set is the name. When I heard "gardens" I imagined something completely different.
This looks like a Ninjago City 2.0 to me. Not that that would be a bad thing per se, but I had hoped for something very different. Slapping a bit of foliage on the side doesn't make this a "gardens" set to me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Choices, Choices, Choices!!!!
Saying this cause not only is this set Great and easy to connect to the other Two NINJAGO Sets. But, now you can even connect the Spring Lantern Festival AND Skate Park to this!!!!

Definitely looking forward to them and the 14th.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Let's see...no 18+ branding...Lego comes out with a an "adult" line of Ninjago clothing...the person pictured in the official images would have been the target Ninjago demographic 10 years ago...Space Police III reference...Methinks Lego is marketing it's very first "T-FOL" set.

I feel like a tree occupying a good quarter of the corner's footprint (and around half its height), plus a scenic pond environment occupying another quarter of the ground level plus an additional half baseplate, qualifies as more than just "a bit of foliage". The gardens may not be the sole subject matter in the set (and to be honest, I think it'd feel quite mediocre compared to the others if they were), but they are central to it, and feel to me like the most key feature that distinguishes it from its predecessors. I think I'd struggle to come up with a better name for a set like this.

What's in a name?

I used to work in a place called Covent Garden which, once, was the fruit & vegetable hub of London; now it's a consumerist hellhole. Ninjago City Gardens is a verdant paradise in comparison!

There has been a delay with TLG dispatching orders to the UK from their warehouse in Belguim. Also, DPD suspended their European road operation for the past week.

My order placed 10 minutes after midnight on NYD has only just been dispatched. There's a large backlog of orders to clear.

I see what you mean, from the back it appears to be just one corner and missing the other 3, which would allow you to have an enclosed walkway at the upper level. From the additional photos all the levels are shown to be at the same height as 70620, so in the meantime you could possibly find a way to build some bridges between the two?

On that Space Police poster the alien has Wrench's head, but a suit more similar to the Mars Mission Astronauts.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I think it's a missed opportunity that you can't sail a ship through the gate (somewhat like https://blockheads.builders/creations/gateway-to-the-sea-B2W68 ), by moving the tree to one side (or have one on each side), making a channel from the gate to the corner, and having a way to raise the upper walkway. But even with these changes I unfortunately believe 71705 Destiny's Bounty* still is a bit too large to fit through.

*In the Norwegian catalogs this name is always translated as "Skjebneskipet Bounty", which actually means something like "the fateful ship Bounty" - I think "Skjebnens Utbytte" eller "Skjebnens Belønning" would've been more correct translations.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I thought there would be a dominate part of the model with tons of foliage.
Seems like another version of NinjaGo City.
It's still good, BUT I was hoping the entire inner courtyard a large sprawling garden, with levels growing upward with various foliage.
