Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 18
Posted by CapnRex101,
An outstanding Quinjet emerged yesterday and elicited a great reaction, so something excellent will be necessary to continue that high standard on day eighteen.
Hopefully such an item appears...
Nick Fury seems an appropriate addition to 76196 The Avengers Advent Calendar, with similar minifigures appearing in three previous sets. This popular character is instantly recognisable, wearing his traditional black jacket with the S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem on the chest. The dark bluish grey jumper underneath provides a nice contrast.
This minifigure wears a dark bluish grey hat, complementing his jumper and befitting winter. Moreover, the enigmatic spy wears a similar hat during Avengers: Age of Ultron. Nick's head looks perfect too, including the character's classic eye patch and a grim expression. No alternative expression is present because the head usually remains bald, but it would have been great to see an exclusive expression here.
Based upon Nick Fury's controller accessory, it seems the mini Helicarrier and Quinjet are both remote-control vehicles! This seems logical and a spare antenna is present, so you could place an antenna on either of those earlier models.
Overall - 4.0 - Nick Fury appears in several other sets, but this minor variant looks superb and suits an Advent Calendar perfectly.

As with the other non-exclusive minifigs in this calendar, I didn't have a Nick Fury before either, so I am very happy with this rendition. Good details and the surprise twist that the microscale models are RC vehicles is a nice one and very suitable for the calendar.
I'm glad he doesn't have an alternate face print, it would limit the use of the head without the hat. This is my first 'proper' Nick Fury (not counting the young one in the Quadjet set) so I'm glad I can use him bald!
Oh hey, it's the Demoman!
I want this! Works with or without the hat, so it's a true winner!
Pretty good. The only change I might have made would have been to include (or swap out the existing accessory for) a 1x1 printed tile to represent his pager.
And then perhaps swap his and Captain Marvel's days around, so Nick could call her in.
He's just cool.
This is also my first Nick Fury, so definitely he is one of the highlights of the calendar. It has been a great minifig selection so far.
I like that the hat gives this figure a unique variation, even it is minor. It’s little “gifts” like this that make these calendars special!

The help arrived has three open studs where the spare lever could be attached, but I don’t see any on the Quinjet:

No need for an alternate expression, because the back of his head show the rest of eyepatch strap for when he goes indoors and removes his knit cap.
Great minifigure selection in this Avengers calendar. I would say it is the best in this department overall out of all the calendars this year.
