Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 6

Posted by ,

Harry's birthday cake is particularly associated with a notoriously gluttonous character, whose addition would be welcome today, before Harry departs for Diagon Alley!

Fingers crossed for another minifigure today...

Dudley Dursley has only appeared once before, in 75968 4 Privet Drive, but this minifigure is exclusive. Hagrid memorably gives Dudley a pig's curly tail when the boy begins eating Harry's birthday cake, hence that feature is included here! That does limit the versatility of the torso, but its blue and white stripes appear completely normal from the front.

The double-sided head is not unique, but remains superb. Dudley's cruel smile perfectly suits his personality and the panicked expression is excellent as well, given the addition of that tail! Moreover, I think the reddish brown hair piece was well-chosen for this character, relative to the movie.

Overall - 4.5 - This version of Dudley was unlikely to appear in any other sets and is therefore an outstanding addition to 76390 Harry Potter Advent Calendar.

Exclusive (not necessarily Christmas-themed) minifigs are one of my favourite potential parts of these calendars... wish we would see more of them. This one is a very nice addition!

I just wish that either the face or the hair were a little more unique. I knew this was Dudley, but that's a relatively generic Lego face that doesn't really evoke the actor in any way I can see.

He's got a tail, I love that tail!!!

There are some lovely little details coming out in this set which brings the first part of book one alive - This advent calendar is shaping up, as the others have to a lovely addition to the main HP lego sets

Whoops, I put the torso on back to front…

Getting this minifigure and the cake has me wondering if we might get a set of a certain hideaway featured in philosopher's stone to put them in some time.

Having got very excited about the tail I've only just noticed tge line details on the front around his paunch stomach.

Also cool

The two main selling points of the HPAC seem to be a spread of exclusive minifigs, and exclusive decorated tiles. The first two made very cohesive scenes (both Christmas-themed), while this appears to be geared more towards a game centered around Harry’s journey from Privet Drive to starting school at Hogwarts. And probably nothing Christmas-related.

@PurpleDave: I'm sure there'll be something Christmas-y on the twenty-fourth, as is tradition with Lego Advent calendars. Although that may be the only one.

Yeah, but I know a lot of people were really hoping to see a Slug Club party HPAC, especially since that’s the only other significantly Christmasy scene in the movie series. I know they intentionally reset to Year 1 for the 20th anniversary, but I can’t help but wonder if they’re purposefully shying away from touching any more material from Years 5-7 than is strictly necessary, possibly including a hard limit of Year 4 on any future HPAC.

By in Norway,

They've completely exhausted Slughorn's Christmas party with the Astronomy Tower and Ginny CMF, so I hope we never get an advent calendar based on it too. We'll probably see something Hogsmeade based next year.

This Dudley minifig is excellent, and paired with yesterday's cake would have made a highly desirable CMF!
