Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 7

Posted by ,

After hearing of his wizarding capabilities, Harry visits Diagon Alley to collect equipment. I expect 76390 Harry Potter Advent Calendar will change focus to the same location.

Let's open the door and see...

Of course, before reaching Diagon Alley we must first pass through the Leaky Cauldron. This renowned pub conceals an entrance to the wizarding street and a printed sign is provided here, faithfully recreating that shown during The Philosopher's Stone. I appreciate such attention to detail because the more prominent sign from The Prisoner of Azkaban is completely different.

The worn flame yellowish orange decoration looks absolutely fantastic and I love the dark blue highlights on the cauldron too. Since the location seems unlikely to appear in a larger set, I am delighted with the sign alone. In fact, I expect this will inspire many fan creations portraying the Leaky Cauldron.

Overall - 4.5 - This model is simple, but the decorated sign looks absolutely perfect and another exclusive printed piece is greatly appreciated.

I am no collector of the Harry Potter series per se, though I like it. But I definitely like the advent calendar, it provides you with a lot of useful details that can easily be used for MOCs if all sizes.

I dunno, they made Hoggsmeade, I reckon we've actually got a decent chance of seeing a Leaky Cauldron set one day...

I wouldn't be surprised to see this showing up in non-HP MOCs, as Lego hasn't made too many pub signs.

"Hear that, Ern? The Leaky Cauldron."

The Leaky Cauldron, that's in London.

I like the printed piece. I am torn if I want to build a MOC of the building since I have too many other HP MOCs planned...hmm,

Doesn't LEGO have a policy on not making pubs and other drinking establishments?

Rules seem to be relaxed for fantasy settings. Chalmun’s Cantina and Hogsmeade have been cited as examples. They’ve also done a bottle of wine with the CMF Waiter. But I would not hold my breath for Moe’s Tavern after they pointedly cited “bar” as the reason the Winchester got rejected from Ideas.

This and the birthday cake tile may be enough to make me go hunting for a clearance one of this!

I've bought this calendar just for this piece, no kidding.

At first I got PTSD thinking it was a banner!

I actually haven’t seen a single Advent Calendar set anywhere, MSRP or clearance. Two years ago I was still about a week away from deciding to track down a copy of the first HPAC and build three per day to catch up, and ended up buying another ten copies once I found them marked down to $20. Last year I ended up getting two right away, and couldn’t resist a third when I saw it on clearance (which I still haven’t opened). This year they seem to have figured out how many to order.

@darkstonegrey:
It’s a 2x3 tile w/ clips, not a flag. There’s nowhere to print on the other side. If you want it double-sided, you’ll need to hang two back-to-back.

Only when there isn't a ton of money from a popular IP on the table.

Moe’s Tavern and the Winchester would like to have a word with you...
