Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 10

Posted by ,

An inevitable weapons rack emerged yesterday, hence I am anticipating something much more enjoyable today. Nevertheless, I believe we will remain on Tatooine.

Find out below...

Another stud shooting weapon appears today, belonging to the Tusken Raider. This ballista is inspired by those deployed against the gargantuan krayt dragon during The Mandalorian, so features twin torsion arms which are represented by tan horns. The reddish brown elements portray a rope reel which is also present on the original weapon.

However, the stud shooter integration seems dubious and I dislike the tan 1x3 brick underneath the ballista because that seems rather rudimentary. The weapon does provide some play value though, without the need for any targets arriving tomorrow!

Overall - 2.5 - These stud-shooting weapons are quite fun, but the Tusken Raider's ballista lacks sufficient detail relative to the earlier E-web cannon.

Normally I'm not one for looking at the box for spoilers, but I'm glad I can for once, because it reminds me that there was a a reason I decided to buy this calendar. I hope it's just a run of bad days, but I feel like this might be the most disappointing Star Wars calendar we've had in years. Not one single gift has really felt exciting. Even the minifigs have been ho-hum so far.

The Krayt Dragon was one of the coolest creatures finally revealed in the Mandalorian, maybe in all the SW on-screen canon (notwithstanding the similarities to the Dune sandworms). However, I wish something else could have been included today from that episode instead. Tough to represent such a complicated weapon with a limited number of parts (as in 75299).

I guess if the idea is to have a game with the targets, this is better than nothing.

By in Switzerland,

I have every LEGO STAR WARS Advent Calendar since they started in 2011. 2020 was Highlight after Highlight. This Years however is boring and disappointing and will go down in my personal History as the worst one. And from the Box Design we already know that there will be at least another Weapon Rack. Really LEGO ?

I feel like a mini Krayt Dragon would have been a much better choice.

They aren't just "weapons racks." The whole theme of this Advent Calendar is the characters from the Mandalorian are having a Snowball Fight. The "weapons racks' as every one keeps calling them are forts/barricades for the snowball fight. I think it is a really cute idea, especially for the kids these Advent Calendars are designed for. So, can people stop complaining and just join in the fun?

I admit that I wish we got some more exclusive minifigures like Cobb Vanth, Peli Motto, and Kuiil (I have made my own custom versions though). But I am enjoying the lighthearted fun they are having with this year's calendar.

A bit blockier than the stormtrooper's similar build, but I do enjoy this. Two shooters, two figures, two targets- that's a nice little competition there.

I wish they would stop with the spoilers printed on the box. I realize why they do it but it's a major downer. Conversely it lets us know we shouldn't get our hopes up, this year anyway.

@Gustoffr2d2:
I must admit, “scorching hot desert” does seem like good cover in a snowball fight. Even if they can see you, they probably still can’t hit you. The snowball will simply sublimate before it gets anywhere near you.

Not going to lie here, I am glad I skipped on this one and went with the HP and Avengers calendars instead. These days just don't seem anywhere as exciting or cool as the previous calendars. I love LEGO as a hobby and the company itself, but this design here just looks awful to me.

One thing that is nice about this design, even with the brick for a support, is that the handlebar is at a nice ergonomic height for the Tusken to hold stood up. Likewise the handle on the Stormtrooper's cannon. Makes it nice to pose the figures.

I've done every SW advent calendar since they came out in 2011. So far this year's edition is off to a sluggish start. Let's hope things start to get better!
