36 projects qualify for third 2021 Ideas review
Posted by Huw,
Earlier this week LEGO announced that 36 Ideas projects achieved the requisite 10,000 supporters between September 2021 and 10th January 2022 so will be considered in the third 2021 review, the results of which will be announced in the summer.
As usual there's a mix of those that don't stand a hope in hell of passing and some which are in with a chance. Take a look at them all after the break and let us know in the comments which you think is which.
We are still awaiting the results of the second 2021 review, which will most likely be announced in February, and also the release of products that passed in earlier reviews:
- Earth Globe, passed review in September 2020
- Vincent van Gogh: The Starry Night, passed review February 2021
- Motorised lighthouse, passed review in June 2021
- Jazz Quartet, passed review in October 2021
- The Office, passed review in October 2021

It'd probably take a partnership with Rubik's Brand (who has commented favorably on puzzLEGO's videos) as well as either some next-level engineering or a new mold or two entirely to produce a Rubik's cube set that's robust to LEGO's quality standards. But that's the one project I'm holding out for — and the speedcubing community clearly loves it, too.
As much as I would like LEGO Totoro, and as much as LEGO would probably like the sales figures from LEGO Totoro, Miyazaki is notoriously stingy with licensing, so I doubt it’ll be produced. Would love to be proven wrong though.
The Solar System is a novel idea for Lego and looks good. So that has a chance, I think.
I like the idea of the James Webb Telescope, too, which is a very significant space achievement. Not sure how keen Lego will be on another space Ideas set, or if they have plans for this anyway.
All the rest I think have zero chance.
would go for Steampunk house & Record Store, that's about it.

"It is great that we have these lego ideas but lego needs to make sure that they can distribute them, I received an email last week that the Kakapo will not be delivered until June, ordered in August last year "
That is the BrickLink Designer Programme, which has nothing to do with Ideas reviews or the regular sets. Plus, the delay in shipping was well advertised at the time
Nothing I'd want has any real chance of happening, eh. The cube seems like an interesting and likely choice, though.
Fingers crossed for the Great Coral Reef if only one gets chosen. While there are yet again many other strong candidates (incl Baba Yaga), this seems to be closest to a real set and it delivers on all important fronts (great parts pack/parts usage/displayability/educational/no license). A proper scenery-set is long overdue and an exotic underwater setting seems just right.
The most from this I would love to get is Baba Yaga and Moomins
Baba Yaga house looks so epic with the chicken legs : D
Interesting sets and sadly, almost too many.
I do love the sense of humour behind the Lego Emergency Box, but otherwise only 2 sets really pop out to me, the Pirate Tavern and The Riverside Scholars, both of which I think would be too expensive as actual sets.
I suspect the Stargate might make it, and although I really enjoyed the show, not overly excited by having a set in Lego of the show. But meh, who knows.
Well done to all those who submitted and achieved 10,000 votes, a huge achievement.
The only clear standout from this lot for me is the Rubiks Cube, that's something new and quite amazing being fully working. I would love to see that Naruto Ramen shop, looks like a great build and it goes well with Lego's huge investment in Asian market. I hope that Steampunk building, the Western Sheriff's Office, The Meeting Point, the Pirate Tavern and The Riverside Scholars will go into Bricklink Designer voting.
None of them really interest me as a set that I would personally buy. But if I had to pick one, it’s the Coral Reef.
Well, none are jumping out at me so I’ll be interested to see what makes it. Guesses would be Rubix cube and the station (why not call it a station?). Eventually TLG will crack and give us a steam punk set though.
For me it’s steampunk and meeting point but I don’t have high expectations so i would say it will be rubik or clockwork solar. Or another licence thing.
Personally I’m a fan of Land Ahoy and the Meeting Point, and I’ve got a soft spot for the bookends but can’t see any of them making it
Zelda really is like a bad penny, isn't it? You'd think they'd make one just to stop the constant submissions.
I love the blackbird but there's no way they could make it
There’s quite a few that appeal to me, but not likely to make it through selection. The LEGO emergency box is a fave and stands a good chance - not every ideas set needs to be 2000+ bricks and ££££
I think someone needs to have a quiet word with the SR71 though (cough, cough….Osprey) deffo wasting its time
Fingers still crossed for Avatar and Hyrule castle, but they've been passed over before. Lots of fun modular type buildings here as well as botany style display sets!
Big Boy and Meeting Point/Station for me.
I know, my penchant tends to be monotonous...
Land Ahoy, Coral Reef and Garden & Greenhouse standing out most for me as being something different.
[First post got eaten. Less enthused second attempt.]
My picks: No expectations. Just catches of the eye.
Clockwork Solar System (It's like SPACE)
Steampunk Explorers
The LEGO Emergency Box is hilarious, but I already have plenty of separators.
Soyuz, but I'd want it to be the main craft with room for included minifigs.
The Meeting Place
Big Boy would be epic, but it must be able to go through a standard curve track.
I'd want an X-15 instead. I feel the SR-71 is too militaristic (spy-craft and all).
The Pirate Tavern would look so good next to the 21325 Medieval Blacksmith!
What I wished: The Legend of Zelda, The Dojo, Naruto, Studio Ghibli, Hocus Pocus, The Castle Outpost or Riverside Schoolars. I will ALWAYS support any game or anime stuff, I really wished we had more of that...
But what we will likely get:
- James Webb Telescope or Soyuz (the easy and predictable Space stuff)
- Brooklyn 9 9 (the equally easy and predictable sitcom stuff)
- SR-71 (easy NASA stuff)
- Rubik's cube (okay, that one may be cool)
I do believe the SR-71 could pass since it does not violate Lego's policy about military stuff: the aircraft is already retired. (which is the reason why the Sopwith Camel was made as a set before). The fact it wasn't a fighter-bomber might help too.
Really only interested in the Orrery (solar system) and Meeting point station. Didn't realize James Webb Space telescope was so big, makes me dislike it.
Still smarting after Wallace and Gromit weren't selected, but would love to have that Orrery. Great job on the realism of the Terrariums, and wow, the detail in the Coral Reef (would hate to dust it)! The Big Boy as a gift to the train fan in the family would be a must buy, and although dating myself, I remember the drive-up McDonald's in Beaver Falls, PA, as late as the 1980's, so that would be a nice callback.
Not my choice, but I guess the both plant sets and James Webb are going to be selected.
So many awesome projects! My favs are 1 and 2!
I would love to see a LEGO designer's take on Moominhouse and Asterix! I would also like the sheriff's office and the magical bookends. I love It's a Wonderful Life, but I don't think I'd want a set of their house.
I'm a sucker for anything food-related at mini-fig scale that oozes charm, so no.9 Ramen shop gets my vote, but it'll probably never be made as an official set. No.3 Great Coral Reef, No.4 Terrariums, no.19 Orchid all look amazing.
Love that SR-71, but that feels like a pipe dream. Even though it’s retired, it’s still a military aircraft (regardless of it’s reconnaissance designation).
Honestly there isn’t too much here that thrills me other than the Black Bird, Union Pacific Big Boy, and that really neat “Land Ahoy” build.
Unlike last review, there are several here I would consider purchasing, including the SR-71, James Webb Space Telescope, and clockwork solar system.
The working Rubiks Cube also fascinates me.
There’s a few decent ideas I’d like picked, but I can’t see them happening. The McDonalds is nice, Asterix too (but given Playmobil is releasing sets it’s unlikely).
Hocus Pocus has potential given the sequel is coming out this year.
Can’t see that orchid being picked given that one is rumoured to be released in the Botanical line this year.
The emergency set would be a great GWP in my opinion
I love all of the different parts usage in that coral reef model. Different hair pieces, upside down hats and skirts, demigorgon mouth, carrots, pumpkins and eyeball/dishes. Very cool and vibrant colors. Love that one. The dojo and Johnny 5 are also very impressive builds.
Land Ahoy would be my pick but I think the Terrariums (fitting in with TLG's latest flower theme) and the clockwork solar system have fair chances
The foosball table is also forthcoming; like the Fender, it's a contest winner but seems like it'll be a full scale Ideas set, not a promotional item.
Optics-wise 15. Steampunk Explorers appeals the most to me, although many of the other buildings look fantastic as well.
From a pure building-technique WOW-factor standpoint 13. Rubik's Cube outshines everything (6. Clockwork Solar System being on an honorable 2nd place in that category).
Another round predominantly of sets with huge piece counts and overall sizes.
James Web has to benefit from the observatory successfully unfolding after so much apprehension over the hundreds of possible failure points. Had something gone wrong, a dead sat would stand no chance of passing review.
The brooklyn99 set is a render, right? It looks like a render, and it's floor plan is so huge that if it does physically exist, I wonder where the designer thinks buyers would put it.
As always no one interested me would be passed, no one than passed review the last year interested me :(
there are no more ideas like barracuda bay and medievail blacksmith :(
Great selection!
My preferences for: 1. Land Ahoy 2. Naruto [seems unlikely] 3. Gibli [seems unlikely] 4. Rubik 5. Stargate [seems unlikely] 6. Webb Telescope 7. emergency set
I love 3 projects here which finds a place (based on nostalgia mostly) in my heart: naruto, johny 5 and gremlins. Would love to see those 3 as a real products :)
Solar System for me - I think it has the best chance , is different to what's been released before, and shows off what Lego can do.
There's a lot of modular building type designs that are really really nice - but don't stand a chance of winning. All the "IP licence required " stuff are all a big "meh" from me.
@huw: Can you guys perhaps do another article about the likelyhood of an Ideas project being approved? I'm interested in reading your thoughts.
2 sets really nééd to be made: Avatar The Last Airbender + Asterix the Gaul !
But it won't happen. 36 or 35 wasted chances. LEGO will pick one that totally doesn't interest me, like usual.
There are some nice ones this time around.
Personally, I'd like to purchase "It's a Wonderful [LEGO] Life," "Steampunk Explorers," and "Coral Reef."
The other botanical sets (terrariums and orchid) probably won't make it, given LEGO's official Botanical Collection. "Coral Reef" is distinctive enough, I think, to set it apart from the Botanical Collection, as a potential Ideas set.
I was actually surprised that 21330 ("Home Alone") made it to fruition as an Ideas set, since I've never thought of that movie as an "instant holiday classic." Not so ironically, perhaps, neither was "It's a Wonderful Life" when it first premiered. It was only after annual viewings on television that the movie became more and more beloved. That being said, I've always liked "It's a Wonderful Life" more as a perennial holiday story. I do wonder if TLG will not allow it through, due to its spiritual/religious subtext, but I'd like to see it as an Ideas set.
As for "Steampunk Explorers," I just like Steampunk LEGO, period. :-). (Hoping for the "Exploratorium" to be crowdfunded in the Bricklink Designer Program, round three...)
Good luck to all the submissions / creators.
I feel that a Legend of Zelda Ideas set would be a perfect opportunity to introduce more Nintendo franchises… or just gaming sets in general, since not too many themes are covered.
Rubik’s Cube feels very much in line with grand piano, typewriter, and working lighthouse. Could see that passing.
Don’t have a lot of hope for many of the others but there are several good non-licensed projects that might be good candidates for a future round of the BrickLink Designer program.
Probably wouldn't happen because of the Botanical line, but that Orchid looks fantastic and perfect for the home or work desk. Also love the Land Ahoy, but the build methods may be the undoing of that one, looks amazing though.
Congrats to all the builders on getting the 10,000 votes, its an amazing achievement.
I love the Meeting Place - brilliant use of angles. I would also buy Record Store on day 1. Huge parts counts though Bring them to Brickling programme.
1. Land Ahoy and 2. Great Coral Reef are insane looking. I’d love those sets. I’m also a sucker for trains so the 4-8-8-4 of 26. Union Pacific “Big Boy” is also nice.
Why is the SR-71 allowed when it's used primarily by the Air Force?
I mean I'd love a set of it, but it's obnoxious how inconsistent Lego is with their standards.
Another Zelda, another Avatar, more sitcoms, more castle. It's so clear what fans want because these show up every single time. They really need to start making these their own themes or just disqualify some of them outright at this point.

The set hasn't been made yet, how is this inconsistent?
Sheriff's Office and the Big Boy are what I'm hoping for the most.
That SR-71 is cleeeeeeean
I’m having trouble getting excited for any of these.
I’ll be honest, I’ve grown a disdain for the sitcom sets. I don’t mean to knock the designers, but it’s kinda low-hanging fruit in terms of an Ideas project. Just get a boxy or rectangular room, add the furniture, throw in some mini figures, and you’re done. I’m sorry, but that’s just not interesting to me. I think so many other interesting projects get passed up because they’re such a safe bet. Even if that’s not the case, Queer Eye has the exact same style and isn’t an Ideas set, so clearly the format is selling.
And why do they keep allowing Zelda if they’re just going to say no? Maybe 7th or 8th time’s a charm, but if it doesn’t have much of a chance then they shouldn’t beat around the bush about it.
I think Lego needs to add a horizontal area rule to submissions since they probably have it during the review process already.
The greenhouse, Brookline 99 and the choral reef are the standouts of being just too wide. Submissions should be aiming at like 32x32 studs in horizontal space.
To me the terrariums is the only one that looks possible
I seem to be alone here but I really like the Garden and Greenhouse, very realistic, good parts usage but also huge and therefore expensive, plus a huge dust trap also!
I wonder why there isn't a Legend of Zelda set or even theme already. There's clearly a high interest in it, as TLoZ ideas make it into nearly every Ideas review. I doubt Nintendo would be terribly against the idea, either, with how well Lego Mario has been doing.
@Brick_Belt said:

Maybe because this is a model of an SR-71A loaned to NASA for high-speed and high-altitude aeronautical research. Could also be because the SR-71 was never equipped to carry armaments.
The SR-71 is seriously tempting; as is the UP Big Boy. Due to just not having the space, I’d likely only pick up the Stargate SG-1 set.
Me being a pessimist will assume most won't pass. However, a few do look good and I'd be willing to exchange money for.
I'd love a B99 set! One of my favorite shows. But I feel since they just approved The Office, it is more unlikely they would release this set in such quick succession. I'd glad to be proven wrong though!!
The plants all look stellar. The Orchid looks particularly impressive. But I also wonder if they would just tweak them and release them under the Botanical theme anyway. Same with the terrariums since they could do a succulent set pretty easily already.
A lot of castle, which isn't surprising. But will they really release another so soon? And without some tweaks (like they did with the Blacksmith) I am not that impressed with most of these.
The record store looks really well done, but being so similar to a modular building, I'd guess unlikely. The Fishing Store was different enough since it didn't actually blend with the rest of the street like this one would (I didn't love the fishing store anyway, so that didn't affect my wallet).
The working Rubix cube would be a really good option. It'd be smaller in scale, but hopefully not ridiculous in piece count so could be a really good gift for people not usually into LEGO.
Ya know, I really wouldn't mind if for 2-3 years LEGO would just put a ban on all submissions that are A) sitcom set recreations B) massive medieval builds C) pretty much just regular modulars. Maybe that'd open more room for something more unusual and unorthodox.
- surprised that It's a Wonderful Life made it through when a third of it is pretty much a suicide attempt scene
- holding out hope for Baba Yaga's hut! The Magic Bookends are also very lovely
I would like Avatar, Webb, Soyuz, Blackbird, Asterix, Sheriff, but I'm not predicting that any of those will win.

I'm on board! Bring on some new things
I want the Johnny 5 robot.
Let's go Steampunk! But it'll probably be Terrariums.

Like a Typewriter or a Ship In a Bottle? I hear you, and as I was scrolling through these candidates it seemed like IDEAS had started to stand for "Incredibly Detailed Edifices & Assorted Screentime," which get can get monotonous.
As for me, I like the JWST, and it has a better chance because the real thing actually deployed correctly. Castle Outpost also looks good, and has enough personality to stand out among other recent large Castle sets. Not much love for it in the comments, though. (Yes, I know it's a massive medieval building.)
I also like the Soyuz, but Roscosmos tries to wring every advantage out of its workhorse, so I doubt they'd grant the license. SR-71 Blackbird looks good too, but adding a NASA label on the tail doesn't hide its military and political history. Neither of those two have much of a chance.
I'm guessing Terrariums, Hocus Pocus (Disney relationship), and the Rubik's Cube are the most likely choices.
I'd love the SR-71, but it's a pipedream given it's military status. Magic Bookends looks great and they've been doing quite a few book related sets the past few years, so it's my dark horse of the wave.
I only want Baby Yaga from this one
I would buy Land Ahoy in a heartbeat because I absolutely love microbuilds like these! As a mathematician with an interest in dynamical systems I would probably also buy the Clockwork Solar System.
I like the bookends. But, there were a couple of bookends type ideas in one of the previous reviews, which didn't make it through, which means this set is also unlikely to get through. Still a nice idea though.
A really nice selection! Let me list some of my favorites in this batch:
In terms of licensed projects, the Zelda one is one of the better-looking ones to have reached review, and I believe the first to do so since Lego started their partnership with Nintendo for Lego Super Mario. Not sure if that makes it more likely, but I can't help but hope. The Avatar: The Last Airbender project is also high quality, if skirting the line of being like a remake of an older set. Still, as a high-quality license that wasn't quite done justice by Lego the first go-round, I'd love to see them take another stab at that.
And there's a TON of high quality non-licensed projects. The clockwork solar system looks amazing as a functional display piece. The "steampunk explorers" project went under my radar completely but is a great-looking proposal. The Baba Yaga is another distinctive-looking project covering a region's folklore that has previously been unexplored in Lego sets. And as modular/pseudo-modular proposals go, I ADORE "The Meeting Point", which has an incredibly unique layout and fantastic architecture.
I don't think the Zelda set has any real chance since Lego already has the Nintendo license. If they wanted to make a Zelda set, they would just do it without bothering with the Lego Ideas strings attached. That said, I really don't understand why we haven't already seen Lego Zelda in some form. I don't think a single IP has had more Lego Ideas submissions reach 10,000 votes, so it seems like an obvious choice. Zelda is certainly popular enough with the kids to do well, and I think it would probably even appeal to some more classic Lego fans depending on how much they leaned into the Castle-ish elements. Hopefully we see something soon.
Land Ahoy and the UP “Big Boy” have my vote. The former is an intriguing display piece, while the latter is an authentic representation of the largest steam locomotive ever built!
@Brick_Belt said:

This is merely the review stage, Lego hasn’t done anything yet. They could have kicked it out of the review stage if they wanted I suppose, but a much smarter and fair decision would be to just get it to the review stage and deny it there.
I would really like an Avatar set, but with everyone at the Jade Dragon gathered around the table with Zuko serving tea and Saka drawing everyone at the end of the last episode. In my mind’s eye that makes a nice display piece.
I don't think hardly any of these are viable projects based on LEGO's past choices. Most of these touch on previous Ideas products or existing LEGO themes, or rely on licensing, size, and complexity that makes them seem like no-gos. The clockwork orrery seems like the only one that I could see happening, and then maybe the magic bookends. Otherwise, I don't see any practical winners here.
How did Baba Yaga and Hocus Pocus get into a second review?
Lots of great stuff here. Some I'd like to see made even if I would not be buying it due to space (i.e. coral reef - just to see how they go about it). What I would buy, in that order: (20) Soyuz Rocket (would also like French, Chinese rockets), (32) NASA SR-71 blackbird (remember 42113 ?), (26) Union Pacific Big Boy (now, that's a neat locomotive - did the crocodile engine do well?) and (6) Clockwork Solar System. I could get tempted by a few others depending on cost and general aspect: Naruto, Steampunk, meeting point(modular train station), James Webb(I applaud the technological feat but the model is rather bland). As usual, I never keep my hope very high with Lego Ideas - whenever they come up with a surprise choice it is hardly ever a set I'd like to have anyway. Very good quality creations here, best of luck to all designers and best of luck to everyone getting their wishes fulfilled.
I’m really loving the SR-71 Blackbird but Lego is a bunch of cowards who will never make anything military related. Other then that, I guess I like Land Ahoy but this review is pretty lackluster honestly.
lot of cool mocs. a few WTF?, and the usual blend of oddball IPs
very little in the way of likely winners
I cannot believe how some of these made the review. While the majority are really good, there are a few odd balls which I really don't see the need for. I can see the planet set working if it was simplified. I would like the modular style buildings to pass but from past experience I know they won't.
I like the land ahoy, book ends, coral reef and the terrariums.
The one I really want is the Orchid. That is a beautiful set and deserves to join the flower theme. If it doesn't pass the review, I hope Lego decide to include orchids in their flower theme anyway.
No offense to the creator, but there's no way they'll make that emergency box one, it would be a really strange product to have. Also if they made the Hocus Pocus one they would never include 11 minifigures
Dang, there's a lot of really good ones this time around (and that SR-71 is smooooth).
So which *one* do y'all think we'll get this time?
The emergency box would make a fun GWP set
Quite a varied selection this time!
My favorite ones:
1. Land Ahoy: I love this! Great display piece!
6. Clockwork Solar System: This might just be my favorite of the bunch...absolute 100% buy!
13. LEGO Rubik's Cube (Working): Take my money!
15. Steampunk Explorers: Awesome design! I just fear the end result wouldn't be this great.
24. Pirate Tavern: Amazing, but again I fear Lego would scale this down quite a bit.
Not exactly original "Ideas", but 100% buy for me:
20. Soyuz Rocket: The Space Race had two competitors, so long overdue.
26. Union Pacific "Big Boy": Looks so much better than the one from Bluebrixx. I just hope Lego can resist the urge to ruin it by making it into a functional model...
27. Magic Bookends: While there have been better ones before (even 10K), I do still like this a lot.
32. NASA SR 71 Blackbird: Could use some finetuning, but still great. Next a U-2?
Some more thoughts:
2. Great Coral Reef: Looks absolutely stunning but it seems like a rather tedious build to me.
4. Terrariums: Fun idea, but I recently ordered something similar (but nicer) from our friend Ali ;-)
9. Naruto: Ichiraku Ramen Shop: Already available at our friend Ali ;-) (Though I won't buy sets there of which I know the design is stolen....)
10. Motorized Johnny 5: Very cool, but I feel this is a bit too obscure for the younger generations?
14 Brooklyn Nine Nine: 99th Precinct: Rehash of existing ideas, just different IP. Meh...
17. Castle Outpost: Jay, castle idea 3281270.....and there have been better ones before.
18. Downtown Records: Nice MOC but not much of an "idea"....
21. LEGO Ghibli: I love Studio Ghibli, but much better submissions have already been rejected. I'd still probably buy it....
22. Baba Yaga: Not familiar with the property, but this looks great! I just wonder if those feet will be up to Lego standards, and reinforcing them would ruin it.
23. The Meeting Point: Great design, and Lego could very much use a train station.
30. McDonald's Franchise 1955-1969: Cool, but I'd prefer McDowell’s ;-)
33. Gremlins: I'd love a Gremlins set, but this doesn't do much to me.
34. Sheriff's Office: Nice, but I feel BlueBrixx is already doing similar things better.
35. It's a Wonderful: Very nice, but again I feel this will be a bit too classic, even for older generations.
36. The Garden and Greenhouse: Nice, but will undoubtedly be scaled down a lot.-
If I were a betting man, i'd go with the terrariums and Rubik's cube
I love the pirate tavern!
Johnny 5 is the only one that stands out to me as having a shot. The movie had some kid-inappropriate spots, but Lego seems to have moved beyond that with Ideas these days. There are some other fantastic models here, but none of them "feel" like they'd be picked.
I like most of these, good options this time around!
I'll take the Avatar set please!
I am so disappointed that literally around 50% of all those projects are resubmissions of previously rejected ideas.
The pirate tavern would be the safest bet as likely to have the largest popular audience.
The meeting point train station is different from all the previous modulars, while still looking great among them, and crams a lot of detail into an interesting build.
Steampunk is the most way out there which may be too risky, even though it could be the most fun for kids to play with.
The Rubik's cube is novel, I just hope it is strong enough to satisfy long hours of rough use.
The coral reef is stunning but looks like all those unusual pieces would make it very expensive.
I'm hoping for the avatar set or hyrule castle. Wouldn't mind lego naruto either
My favourites:
13. Rubik's cube.
This is perfect Ideas fodder: not been done before, some clever mechanicals, and cool partnership.
15. Steampunk Explorers
It doesn't look very steampunky to me, but it looks great.
18. Downtown Records
The architecture reminds me of one of my favourite pubs
23. Meeting Point
Super slick, it already looks like an official set. The size, compared to Studgate, gives it a better chance.
30. McDonald's. I like this idea but the colours look a bit anemic I can see this being picked and completely redesigned to look like a modern more colourful McDonald's.
16. Moominhouse
No idea what this is but I like that it could be straight out of one of those 80s ideas books.
35. It's a Wonderful Life
No idea what it's about but it makes a very nice modular.
Damn, I've been working on a similar Solar System model since last summer! Several of these look cool. I want the Magical Bookends to pass but I also like the Terrariums.
Sheriff office is nice as a of Western and maybe followed 3-in-1 spinoff with bandits/hideout/goldmine.
6764 : Sheriff's Lock-Up was originally brought back in 2002 under the legends line so the theme still has some merit.
My two favorites probably won't make it. Johnny 5 and Stargate. I loved Short Circuit 2 when I was a kid. Stargate was also a favorite of mine.

I don't think you have to worry about that. The latest version from the designer has it compatible with Power Functions and, IMO, doesn't look bad at all.
At least there’s only one “sitcom box” this time round. Was getting tired of the entries being increasingly filled with those
I really want that reef. I also would love the pirate tavern.

I totally missed that, and if it indeed works that is mighty impressive! I do still prefer the original version, but it's definitely not bad. Unfortunately no picture of how it looks on a 180° curve :-)
Great Coral Reef is good.
Clockwork Solar System has an alternate build as a stack of pancakes.
The Naruto ramen shop has already been made by third-party manufacturers, I think.
Steampunk Explorers: congrats on your Bricklink Designer Program win.
Downtown Records could also get BDP’d.
McDonald’s Franchise 1955-1969: needs a Wesley Willis minifigure.
Gremlins as an IP will resonate with TLG but the build just doesn’t evoke nostalgia in me in any way.
I am a little underwhelmed by this lot, I am sorry to say
Predictions:
1) Land Ahoy - No chance. They will not attempt to replicate that bent building technique.
2) Great Coral Reef - Pretty, but very low odds they'd go with it.
3) Hyrule Castle - Way too large with a license that has never worked. No chance.
4) Terrariums - Look neat, but too close to ship in a bottle and not as cool.
5) Avatar - No chance. They won't do this license again this long after the show.
6) Clockwork Solar System - That's a lot of ugly complexity for some tiny planets. No chance.
7) The Dojo - Pretty, but low odds they'd do something this large for this topic.
8) Hocus Pocus - When you think of Hocus Pocus, do you think of the house? Me neither. No chance...especially with 11 minifigs.
9) Naruto - No chance because of the license AND it's too similar in appearance (and name) to Ninjago.
10) Johnny 5 - Kudos to RJ for reminding me Short Circuit is a movie that exists. The fact I needed reminding doesn't bode well for this set. No chance.
11) James Webb Space Telescope - That's a lot of boring gray plates. Not a lot of playability here and nothing that would make it worthy of being 18+ either. No chance.
12) Emergency Box - Funny joke, but a one joke set like this doesn't really translate into a set on shelves. Extremely low chance.
13) Rubik's Cube - If this actually works well, then this has an extremely high chance of being produced...but only if it meets with Lego's standards AND Rubik's. (...because I can assure you there's NO WAY that Rubik is putting their brand name on there if it doesn't function well.)
14) Brooklyn 99 - Ugh. Another TV show set set. Just stop. Also, very, very low chance.
15) Steampunk Explorers - This is beautiful! Not interested in the plane, but love the building. I don't see them making something this large for this topic though. No chance.
16) Moominhouse ?????? - Yeah..."??????" is right. Don't know what this references and it's really not a very interesting model. Absolutely no chance at all, ever.
17) Castle Outpost - This is glorious and would likely sell well. Timing seems unfortunate since they just did a Creator castle and the Blacksmith Shop...but by the time this would be released, those might be long gone. ...so I'll say this could be possible.
18) Downtown Records - This is a cute shop and I'd definitely consider getting it via Bricklink...because they won't do this as Lego Ideas because, repeat after me kids... They Don't Do Modulars With Lego Ideas! (Seriously though, THIS is what I'd love to see as an official modular set. Keep it simple, Lego! Stop trying to cram in 3 different buildings. Add a third floor to this, make it not a corner set, and it would be perfect!)
19) Orchid - Nope.
20) Soyuz Rocket - Nope.
21) Lego Ghibli - The license for this would be a major roadblock. From what I understand based on my extensive knowledge of the anime world, Ghibli licensing is not easy.
22) Baba Yaga - Nope.
23) The Meeting Point - Remember what I said above about modulars? That goes doubly so for modulars that are more than 1 baseplate in size! Sub-zero chance of being made...even though I love it and Lego really needs a train station.
24) Pirate Tavern - This has a slight chance, but it would need a serious reduction in piece count.
25) Riverside Scholars - Nope
26) Union Pacific - This looks incredible...but they won't make a train set this large.
27) Magic Bookends - Cute, but I don't see this happening. Also, is this set using bricks in colors that don't actually exist?
28) Asterix - Nope. Too many minifigures and not enough actual set.
29) Stargate - I LOVE this and would buy it, but the show went off the air a long time ago and had a military theme, so I'm not sure this would get made. No chance, but I want Lego to prove me wrong.
30) McDonald's - Cool MOC, but I think this has no chance of bring made for a worldwide audience.
31) Three Investigators - So this is based on a German TV show? Looks like a camper in a dump. No chance.
32) SR 71 - Yeah, sure, stick the "NASA" logo on there so it doesn't seem as much like a military plane...but th
I like a couple of these, but not getting my hopes up for anything. Personally, if they didn't make the sets I like, then that's less i'll be spending!

Oh, that’s why? I thought LEGO just hated anime or something (but the consistent rejection of Zelda sets semi-implies that).
Baba Yaga isn’t gonna get approved, exposed moulded booba isn’t something the LEGO Group will approve of in their products.

Sorry if I wasn't clear there. In Lego Ideas groups I'm apart of there's been people who have had projects rejected for connections to the military while a different project connected to the military makes it all the way to the front page.
It's also near impossible to get a response from them if you reach out for clarification.

The submitter specifies in the project that this is the version used by Nasa. (The same goes for the previous Blackbird project that hit 10k and didn't get approved.) I think that's a totally reasonable comparison to the handful of VTOL aircraft that Lego has made in the past vs the issues that made The Osprey ineligible, the licenses. There's nothing really against a plane with adjustable propellers. But slapping on the branding of two of the world's biggest military manufacturers? Yes, that would present an issue. The same goes here, I'd be willing to bet if this was submitted as a USAF Blackbird then it wouldn't have made it past submission, but the branding is key.
The results of the "no text" rule are beginning to show through, it does make for a cleaner overall look. I'd buy the Blackbird, interesting that it made it through to fully supported while other projects within the same military standing don't even get initial approval. Does that say anything about eligibility for production? Probably not, but I suppose we will have to sit tight and assess.
Blackbird
Moomin
Stargate
Highrule Castle
Last Airbender
Hocus Pocus
James Webb
The Office
Asterix
McDonald's
The Three Investigators
Baba Yaga
Ghibli
Coral Reef
Johnny 5
and Garden with Greenhouses
are not going to make it.
A couple of the others are probably too large to make it.
A couple could easily be made into GWP's or small Ideas sets.
Many great, interesting and novel concepts amongst the qualifiers. But of course a host of licencing issues await. I think the Steampunk Explorers is visually exciting and makes me wonder why LEGO has never gone hard over on a Steampunk theme... so much opportunity in it across small and large sets.

I'm not a copyright lawyer but I would assume that if this is produced, they would have to talk to Lockheed and only to NASA if they want to put the sticker on the vertical stabilizers.

There already is. Officially licensed, fully legal, just not from Denmark (and not based on or ripped off of this Ideas entry either).
Simply google Keeppley K20509
I know, purists will flinch, but so what. Internal combustion engine purists also tried to ignore or used to laugh at Tesla in the beginning, but look at the situation now.
Land Ahoy by Ralf Ranghaal Has such an interesting curved design. I worry that it might be too out there for LEGO’s stability standards, but it would be neat.
Great Coral Reef by kris_kelvin Is gorgeous! I love the ocean and sea life and reef MoCs have always captivated me. If they scale it down to be more affordable I’d definitely buy that one, and if they keep it the same size I might be able to squeeze it in!
Hyrule Castle 30th Anniversary by BrickGallery We’re far overdue LEGO Zelda. I’ve personally been begging for a set like this since I was around… 14-ish? With LEGO Mario a thing and the rumored LEGO Gaming line it seems like a no brainer, yet they’ve turned down every project before.
Terrariums by Galaxy333 One gripe I’ve got is it seems like more pieces are spent on the bottles than on the plants, only the smallest one looks that fun to me, but the Ideas Ship-in-a-Bottle was downscaled and the bottle still looked great!
Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Avatar Returns by ky-e I was just a tad too young to get those two Avatar sets back in the day. It’s such a fantastic show and I think it’s a shame it wasn’t given proper love and care back then. Isn’t this like the third Avatar set in the last year? Wonder if they’ll get the hint.
Clockwork Solar System by ChrisOrchard & BrentWaller I love clockwork displays of the solar system like this but this particular one… I’m not sold on. The gear/clock system seems way too tall and complex compared to the planets orbiting, I feel like doing a flat plane with gears would look better. I’m assuming it’s designed this way so the planets orbit the sun at the proper speed, but that’s made the gear function take up way too much room.
The Dojo by SpaceBrick54 We get a dojo set every year or so from Ninjago so I’m not very sold. It looks like it may be a modular and compatible with Ninjago City which I find cool, but other than that I’ve got enough dojos.
Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sister' Cottage - Updated by TheAmbrinator Heard of this show, never watched it. I like spooky things though so maybe I should check it out.
Naruto: Ichiraku Ramen Shop - 20th Anniversary by DadiTwins Again never watched it, but this show is popular enough I’d guarantee it’d sell well. The detail on the noodle house is immaculate, though the minifigs would need substantial redesigns to fit with LEGO’s style.
Motorized Johnny 5 by RJ BrickBuilds Love-love-love robots! Gives me vibes of the old Mindstorms sets and the Ideas Wall-E (though this movie outdates both of those.) Looks like he’d be a bit pricey for my tastes, but would be a deserved win!
James Webb Space Telesceop (JWST) by tonysmyuncle More real life space stuff and not sci-fi? Pass.
The LEGO Emergency Box by SzegoBalint16 Hilarious! Day one purchase! Ideas doesn’t have enough little pocket money sets and this one is fantastic!
LEGO Rubik's Cube (Working) by puzzLEGO1 Fun idea, would sell like hotcakes, stylistically distinct from previous attempts. Not for me but I’d be happy to see it get through!
Brooklyn Nine Nine: 99th Precinct by BenFankhauser WIth the Office set passing review this one is kind of guaranteed. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: these sitcom sets are awesome, but make them their own theme instead!
Steampunk Explorers by Castor-Troy & Max Brich Was this not in a previous round? It looks epic whatever the case! I usually only buy the big and expensive LEGO sets if they’re a Legacy or celebration product (Barracuda Bay, Benny’s Spaceship, ect.) and yet this one is so impressive it might have to join my shelf. I do hope the final product uses classic yellow instead of flesh tones though, as it seems to be an original concept.
Moominhouse ?????? by Bonefoot Seems a bit elaborate for what is essentially a niche franchise nowadays. If you downscaled it a bit and added some actual figures I’d see it working, but as is it feels a bit basic to me.The lack of an actual Moomin, who are the most iconic things from the franchise, is really holding this back.
Castle Outpost by xXgGhostXx Some people say LEGO sh
I really hope Stargate (especially Stargate) and the Wild West Sheriff's Office pass - fantastic models!!!
Castle Outpost by xXgGhostXx Some people say LEGO should bring back Castle. I disagree. I think they should keep passing Ideas Castle projects to get a little more money to the fans. I imagine after one or two more of them we might start getting sick, but for now letting this guy through should do wonders.
Downtown Records by HarrisBricks Modular Buildings never pass, which is a shame ‘cause they’re always awesome!
Orchid by JamesZHAN Making the plant pot a brick is inspired. I worry LEGO may toss this for being too similar to their own Botanical line, but you can always hope!
Soyuz Rocket by The Half Blood Baron A real life rocket that ISN’T NASA!?! Might actually be fun.
LEGO Ghibli by yop1172. Actually including Totoro puts this miles above the Moomins project. Ghibili’s tried to get through a few times and always seems to get turned away, which is a shame because most of their films are super important and beloved in the animation industry.
Baba Yaga by Artem Biziaev I love different mythologies, legends, and cryptids. Would love to grab this one!
The Meeting Point by Lepralego Lots of cool details but not really doing it for me.
Pirate Tavern by Revan New This will undoubtedly go through a ton of changes for the final product, but it’d look amazing next to Barracuda Bay! Even the Ideas Blacksmith could fit with it!
The Riverside Scholars by Hanwasyellowfirst This has a lovely, quaint little village feel to it. I’m a sucker for libraries and museums so I’d love to get my hands on this, and it would go great with the recent Castle selections.
Union Pacific "Big Boy" by Lassehfl Not a fan of trains, but the detail here is exquisite!
Magic Bookends by Brick Dangerous Haha that’s cute. Wouldn’t get it but it would go great with those recent Harry Potter classroom sets… or Diagon Alley for that matter.
Asterix the Gaul by Ganpat the Celt Didn’t recognize the title, but then I saw the fig in the bottom left and went “oh that comic!” I can see this doing amazingly well in Europe, but here in the States it doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell.
Stargate by CaptainMutant Stargate’s been on my watch list for a while. This build looks awesome and it’s a pretty iconic film, so I could see it doing decently. I’m not rooting for it, but I’d probably pick it up if it passes!
McDonald's Franchise 1955-1969 by adammark Ya’know a part of me wants to see this pass *purely* because LEGO could throw in an Easter Egg of the 2001 McToran. I also used to really want that old Town McDonalds set as a kid but that hype has quickly died down.
The Three Investigators - The Headquarters by Valkon Wow, that’s a lot of detail! I’ve never heard of this franchise but I’m a sucker for scrapyard designs so I’d love to see this get made. It would probably be pretty heavily changed for commercial release, unfortunately.
NASA SR 71 Blackbird by BrickerBeard Another NASA set, and one with a military feel. No thanks.
Gremlins by bulldoozer We didn’t get near enough Gremlin variants during the Dimensions days! Put this out as a 24 bag Christmas set like they did Home Alone and I could see it flying off shelves.
Sheriff's Office - Wild West by llucky If both of the AFOL designer programs have taught us anything, it’s that people love Wild West builds. Not for me but I can see this being immensely popular and it would’ve definitely earned it.
It's a Wonderful LEGO Life by twrt0es A film I’ve never seen, though I recognize one of the quotes on the post so that’s probably on me. It’s also Christmas themed and based on a realistic building so… I’d honestly see Gremlins beating it out on sheer kid-draw alone.
The Garden and Greenhouse by kris_kelvin Woah. That is gorgeous. Definitely too big to be released as-is but I’m loving every inch of it. Ya’know… since that old Untitled Goose Game set never passed I may have to add a certain someone to this if I get my hands on it…
In the end I’d like to see the Coral Reef and Baba Yaga get through. There’s nothing this time around I’m super hyped for though… maybe the last few reviews hav
Clockwork Solar System (educational)
Sheriff's Office - Wild West (throwback like the Pirates of Barracuda Bay)
Nasa Sr 71 Blackbird (Lego fans love NASA)
Quite a few I like, can see improvements from Lego help on some. Like mentioned, most will fade away sadly

TLG’s Master Builder Academy from almost a decade ago had a set that seemed to have steampunk elements. 20215 Invention Designer has two models that seem steampunk-ish. I was happy to enroll in Master Builder Academy for what came along during that subscription, including this set and a microscale set. Fun times.
Ninjago seemed to have included some steampunk-like vibes (or, at least, a post-apocalyptic vibe) in some sets, such as 70601 (Sky Shark), 70603 (Raid Zeppelin), and 70605 (Misfortunes’s Keep). I bought those three for that very reason.
Even the Time Cruisers theme seemed to evoke a kind of “everything-but-the-kitchen-sink” mishmash, by way of a warped reading of Jules Verne.
So there is some precedent for steampunk in past TLG offerings.
I've been disappointed with the selected sets so often that it's hard to get excited about this any more. But my kudos to the great builders who came up with these projects. Respect to you all.
Love the Bookends, the "Big Boy" train, the SR-71, Great Coral Reef, Pirate Tavern, and many of the others. Great work.
Lego Please make the “It’s A Wonderful Life” Set.

Ironically, Rubik's brand cubes aren't exactly known for their performance. (I will say, however, that for at least the last half-decade their cubes, while still not the best performers, have been pretty much impossible to break by hand, so in terms of build quality, they're right up there with LEGO nowadays. My current main is a Rubik's Speed Magnetic and I literally only chose it because it uses tiles to achieve its classic look while obviating the issue of sticker wear — cubes commonly called "stickerless" are ugly to me. It helps that it's actually a pretty decent entry-level speedcube — Max Park himself has done sub-5s on it, so I think my sub-30s are pretty legit.)

Must have been a different project but one had a valkyrie with breasts.
For me, The Meeting Point should be the next modular. We have never had a Train Station Modular and this is one of the most innovative station designs I have seen, I absolutely love it. If it doesn't become a set I hope we can get plans so can build it anyway.
Also, Steam Punk would be a day 1 purchase.

To be clear, if made, the LEGO Rubik's cube probably won't be speed capable by any stretch of the imagination, and I'd be happy just to have something that works and won't explode at the slightest catch or pop. Bonus points if it can corner-cut without rapidly causing wear. I was mostly commenting on Rubik's brand cubes being better known for their build quality than their performance — not that either quality is less important than the other.
Given the popularity of the Steam Punk genre, especially with AFOLS. I would have thought a Steam Punk theme series would sell well. Just my humble opinion.
I think that the Gremlins and Johnny number five are serious contenders
A lot of cool concepts to choose from. I think the record shop is gorgeous (and a great way to use our vidiyo tiles in a cool way)

Many are great sets, and of them, most are extremly large sets. I liked Great Coral Reef and Pirate Tavern but they may be impossible produce. Other than that, I really think we need a good book end set. Not the one in here though, it's too cumbersome. Maybe something with Batman...

That’s pretty much my take as well. Love the whole concept and I have a good number of Ideas sets but as the reviews have gone on, invariably they pick the set I am least interested in. I expect nothing to be different with the next two reviews either.
But, as always, props to the builders! Nice work!
It's A Wonderful Life all the way. Who doesn't want Clarence and Zuzu minifigs with their Adventures Of Tom Sawyer book and petals respectively. I mean come on. :)
I'd LOVE to plop the Gremlins house into my Winter Village!
I'd love it if the SR-71 got through but because of its history in the cold war, I doubt it will get accepted. I also want the Soyuz and the solar system

How many Zelda ideas have come and gone through cuusoo/ideas?
You'd think through the numbers and the partnership they'd learn the demand for the product. The other possibility is that Nintendo often markets and makes Mario products for various ages versus Zelda often receives more products and merchandise geared towards adults. Now that Lego has been pushing (overpriced) sets for adults, they might make something Zelda themed similar to the NES or the ? Block.

It feels like votes go to models that impress by overwhelming the eye. Not only would many of these sets be prohibitively expensive, but they also look like a real chore to construct. I wish practicality and originality (e.g. no outside IP) would get more weighting

"There are some nice ones this time around.
Good luck to all the submissions / creators."
Home alone is a very, very popular Christmas movie.
Most of these are nice sets and far beyond my own creations. But more often than not, the ideas-entries focus too much around the obvious IP's as well as 'look at how good I am at greebling'.
The current release schedule is sadly never going to catch up with the sets they are approving.
The moment for Lego to rethink the whole Ideas-concept is overdue.
I do like the entries 'Motorized Johnny 5' (probably too obscure), 'Meeting Point', 'Union Pacific Big Boy' and 'Gremlins'.
I think with the SR-71 LEGO will not want to take the chance. It only takes a few people to not understand (or choose to ignore!) the subtleties of the various marks of the aircraft and who operated them, and a few headlines later it’s a bad news story with -ve PR for LEGO, and with recent similar problems I’m sure they’ll avoid the situation. That’s the world we live in!
I like the model and would get it, but I’d be very surprised if it makes it out of the gate.

The Fender was also a full Ideas set? The contest winning promo that should show up is that lame cardboard spaceship. But I'm really looking forward to the foosball table - unlike the piano or typewriter, it can actually work with 100% functionality of the bigger real thing!
I would think the solar system has a decent chance with its design and the STEM interest. Rubic's Cube might be a serious contender if it is actually functional and stays together. The emergency box is highly original should be inexpensive, however I wonder if it is too niche. I like the original McDonalds as well. Lego and Mickey D's have partnered before, and this would benefit them in addition to anyone who would want one of these in the cityscape.
