Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 13
Posted by CapnRex101,
Entering the second half of 76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar, hopefully the focus will become clearer and the broader standard of items more consistent.
Day thirteen awaits...
Mantis is probably the most important character in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, so her presence in the calendar was a necessity. This minifigure was introduced in 76193 The Guardians Ship, wearing the same dark green garb with dark blue highlights. I like how these lighter colours are integrated, as Mantis' hair and legs are rather dark.
However, Mantis wears a festive jumper for part of the Holiday Special, so recreating that here would have been perfect. Unfortunately, the set will have been developed long before accurate reference material was available, but I think updating her attire for the season would have been welcome, even if it differed from her appearance onscreen.
The rubber hair component, featuring Mantis' distinctive antennae looks perfect and I like her double-sided head, with an angry snarl on the reverse! The minifigure is equipped with a dark azure guitar, albeit one lacking decoration, which is a shame.
Overall - Mantis has only appeared twice before and looks superb in minifigure form, but could have been even better with Christmas theming.

Day 13.
I'm starting to doubt I will ever find out what this Jurassic World calender is going for.
This rockstar woman has horns! Just how many human-dinosaur hybrids did the Jurassic Park 4 script have?
Or was there a rocker woman with flesh-colored horns in Parts and Re-creation? I still haven't been able to find any episodes online. It must have been obscure?
I wish she'd had an alternate face with sunglasses. Boo.
Random points: in the comics, Mantis was actually a Vietnamese martial artist. She still had the antennae for some reason.
This is my first Mantis minifig, so having a "normal" one works just fine for me. Kind of glad she has that guitar so there is less chance of having a whole day devoted to that and a 2 piece guitar stand.

A lot of dinos have horns. She is probably one of Owen's interns whose job is to build a working relationship with the dino similar to what was done with the raptors. Hope she is not working in the carnotaurus pen. That could get dangerous.
@Binnekamp: Obviously those aren't real horns, she forgot or just didn't have time to take all of her dino costume off.

"No Candy Cane Man for Mantis? This is an outrage."
They even made one in series 23...
Once again the advent calendar has failed me... I got another bag of the drones.
Well, they may have skimped on the deco, but at least all the models have been massive and highly detailed. Oh, wait…
They just can’t get her eyes right can they?
my favorite guardians of the galaxy member
Clearly a Mouse Rat groupie, though I don't understand the horns. Last I checked, they were soft rock and not deathcore.

Perhaps that's why she was called Mantis?
Meh.
^ careful what you wish for...
76079 includes a Mantis, although different printing...
The drone and the minifigs have been the only good parts for me so far in this calendar. If only we could get that Milano, Groot and Drax. Especiallly Drax
Speaking of different sweaters than in the special, Drax's sweater doesn't match the special does it?
