Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 16
Posted by CapnRex101,
76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar finally presented something from the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on day fifteen, with Mantis' decorative candy cane.
Let's see whether that focus continues today...
Unfortunately not, although Star-Lord's Hi-Fi music system is a reasonable item instead. I like the dark orange colour choice and the twin speakers look nice, while the printed elements decorating the cassette player are effective as well. The second Awesome Mix cassette is certainly welcome, after appearing on day two.
Overall - These accessories are well-designed, but again feel pretty insubstantial.

I mean, apparently Owen Grady likes music or something. He even hired a humanoid-dinosaur hybrid rocker girl with her guitar and weird christmas trumpet.
But did we really need a second music cassette with sound system? He must really like that particular cassette or something.
It's day 16 and the Jurassic World calender is starting to become so niche that it refers to ITSELF now. Maybe kind-of-sort-of basing it on the rejected Jurassic Park 4 script was not such a good idea.
Unless this all makes sense if you've watched Parts and Re-creation of course. Still can't find that online.
I remember seeing this on the box, and my biggest concern was that they would give us the boombox on one day and the speakers on another. So, I am actually pleased.
colours hint at late 70s or early 80s or, *cough* audiophile snobbery
Corrrrr......does it go up to 11?
I got a bag of red white and turquoise parts that look to form part of the ship on front of the box, so hoping the radio parts are in another door.
Just adds the already disappointment of such a lackluster calendar

Can't you make 10 just a bit louder?
If only Lego made minifigure-sized pencils so Peter can rewind his mix accordingly.

You should actually watch the Guardians films. The music and those specific cassettes (mixtapes) are indeed quite important.

Films? You mean this one? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4600952/ ? I didn't know it had a sequel
;)
@stevesheriw:
There are two speakers, so a three-day split would have been possible…and not out of the realm of possibility, given this AC…

This one is the B-side.
As @ResIpsaLoquitur said:

It’s a testament to how lackluster this calendar has been that this is probably my second favorite build so far (after Rocket’s gun).

That doesn't work, unless you have a Japanese pen. US and European pens don't have enough width to properly rewind tapes. Also, if this is a decent tape deck, he won't be needing to rewind manually.
At first I thought it was a boombox with two additional speakers, which wouldn't make sense, but I guess the printed plates on each side of the tape deck are supposed to be knobs for controlling volume and bass/treble. Not perfect, but at least the brown pieces make it look like a machine from the 70s.
I think it would have been a cuter nod to the films if it were a Zune instead of a tape deck.
God, I miss my Zune. :-(

I got the wrong packet for day 9 in the City calendar. Someone mentioned that they'd had the wrong item in one of theirs (not sure the calendar). It kind of seems like quality control went out the window for the ACs this year.

Agreed. Perfectly stated. StyleCounselor, out... (mic drop)
Oh, I remember big speakers like that...

If this was in a Friends advent calendar you'd have to use the lipstick.
@darkstonegrey:
Seriously? They have ballpoint pens. In like bright Crayola colors, but pens.

Trust me, you'll want to use the lipstick.
