Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 17
Posted by CapnRex101,
Star-Lord's hi-fi system arrived yesterday, again lacking clear connection with the previous item, which has been a theme of 76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar.
See what day seventeen has to offer below...
Snowmen are a consistent feature of LEGO Advent Calendars and I am quite pleased with this example, outfitted as Thanos! The basic snowman shape is familiar and similar to earlier LEGO designs, but the addition of golden armour is effective. I like the shoulder armour in particular, as those pearl gold 1x1 clips make the snowman appear bulkier, much like the Mad Titan himself.
Overall - This snowman is nicely designed, particularly with Thanos' armour to maintain the Marvel theming.

Can't believe I'm this early.
This has got to be one of my favourite parts of the calendar thus far!
Last year gave us a Thanos minifig in the Avengers AC, however he was without the helmet. Looks like that has now been rectified!
I see, an Ankylosaurus’ tail.
[Sorry for stealing your dinosaur joke.]

I immediately went through last years calendars builds to check this too. Glad to have the helmet. I honestly thought some other commenters were being dramatic with their complaints about this years calendar but after looking through last years builds there is an obvious step down. The ships last year were much more fun to build with more detail and unique pieces and the super-heroified presents and Christmas decorations were a lot more fun.
@Mszekeresh: And the snowman in last year's Marvel calendar had a piece in a new color.
Behold! The... lord of the snowmen? A weird candelabra?
I have no idea what this has to do with the Jurassic World theme. But I think I know what it's supposed to be. One of those guards from TLM2! But with gold armor?
I bet people who watched Parts and Re-creation are laughing how obvious this one is. Surely this exact thing must have appeared in one kind of source material somewhere...

Good point.
Thansnows doesn’t roll off the tongue nearly as well as Snowlaf.

It's from the super secret episode. You're only allowed to watch it if you suffer through season 7 first.
It's remarkable how the KK2 Shadow Knight helmet is still in use.
I didn’t see it mentioned in the review or comments so far, but I’m pretty certain it’s supposed to be a reference to the Thanos scarecrow from the comics and Infinity War/Endgame.
I like it more because of that.
Unfortunately, my bag was torn open and spilled, and one of the shoulder clips seems to have been lost. While there were extra twigs and studs, the model looks a little incomplete without the second shoulder clip. But that doesn’t detract from the design being probably the best design in the calendar so far (low bar, but still good).
At last, my temporary helmet for my Lord Vortech minifig has arrived!

LEGO still has to make a set with that gane main villain don't they?
@Lordmoral:
Well, he was supposed to be part of Year 3, and between waning interest in the Toys To Life game format in general, and Nintendo releasing a portable home console that wasn't really compatible with the game base, they cut it short at two years. I very much doubt we will ever see an official Lord Vortech minifig.
@PurpleDave: Re:snow names: What about Snowny Stark?
@TheOtherMike:
Did they make a snowman of him? Snowlaf is what I call 41169 when I have Elsa creating him with magic while Anna and regular Olaf watch.
@PurpleDave: 76196 had an Iron Man snowman, and since I couldn't think of a snow pun on "Iron Man," I went with a pun on "Tony Stark."
