Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 2
Posted by CapnRex101,
Yesterday's mini rendition of Garrick Ollivander's wand shop proved surprisingly divisive! Perhaps something more universally popular will appear on day two.
Find out after the break...
This model is more distinctive than Ollivander's, recreating the Quidditch posts at Hogwarts. Three pearl silver ring blades form the hoops and look good, even though all three should actually be at different heights. The plates underneath introduce some attractive colour, representing Gryffindor and Slytherin houses.
My main concern with these models is their rather limited play value, at the moment. Whereas the vehicles in Star Wars Advent Calendars are inherently fun to fly around, these structures are static.
Overall - Hogwarts' towering Quidditch goalposts look nice here, especially with house colours underneath.

I like this one, but I agree that it should have had some play value. Had it come with a stud shooter and some red 1x1s it would have been a fun plaything.
What a coincidence, I am on the verge of opening a package containing 4721 Quidditch Practice.
@J0rgen knowing advent calenders, there will be an entirely new window dedicated to just the stud shooter and some misc. extras. Can't have too much fun for one day, now can we?
Agree with the house colours, would have bee nice to provide us with a black, blue and silver plate for us to mix and match... Will see what I have in the spares bag.
For me, the play value is interacting with current sets and minifigs, so would draco have has a toy Quidditch set growing up or would there be one in the locker room. of the first flying lesson?
I can see Mr Ollivander presenting a miniature shop to Hogwarts on the occasion of the 10,000th Wand bought by a Home student.
I have plans for these microscale builds ??
The first day of any advent calendar should always be a minifig.
Unlike yesterday's, this is instantly recognizable.
@CCC:
Most targets are stationary, but they’re still more interesting to shoot at than a large box.
best star wars set ever?
@jkb:
It’s the Rebel’s secret new project, the oOo-Wing Fighter!
Model is fine, I suppose. The parts are very nice.
Technically the hoops shouldn't be on the stands, but standing on the ground. Also, since this is based on the first film, the hoops should be gold, and even the original book described the hoops as gold. It wasn't until much later in the film series that the hoops were depicted as gray metal. (Interestingly though, the hoops were depicted as gray in their first Lego appearance in 4726.) If you really want to stretch your imagination the flame-yellowish orange could represent Hufflepuff and the gray could represent Ravenclaw.
why don't they do santa hagrid yet?
@TimTam22: They'll do it on the 24th. I shouldn't have said that, I should not have said that... (Kidding, just wanted to make the reference. I have no idea what'll be there then.)
@TimTam22:
Would he even fit inside the compartment? If he does, would you be able to extract him through the tiny hole without ripping the box?
