Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 4
Posted by CapnRex101,
The unique symbols on the doors of this Advent Calendar clearly provide a clue to their contents, so the serpentine sigil on today's door suggests we are entering The Chamber of Secrets.
Enemies of the heir beware...!
Harry and Ron's encounter with the ferocious Whomping Willow is among the most memorable scenes from The Chamber of Secrets and I love this rendition of the tree. Reddish brown stems form realistic branches and the dark orange accents are excellent, alongside a sand green base that will presumably be shared between items from this movie.
The tiny Ford Anglia also looks brilliant, recognisable by its distinctive colour scheme alone. I like how a roller skate element forms its wheels and the angled position looks great, making use of a trans-clear minifigure stand for support.
Overall - This is my favourite item from the Harry Potter Advent Calendar so far, including superb detail.

This might be the perfect micro build! The car makes the tree look so much bigger than it is, and both are instantly recognisable! I also see that we've moved to sand green for the plate at the model's base! Tan and sand green are THE Harry Potter colors, so it's a nice touch!
Nice idea and execution. Super cute! Great parts!
Probably wins against City's piano. Friends and GG are a joke, today.
Nice. Minimalistic and impressionistic build instead of all that hyper-detail we're used to in the mega-expansive builds. And it DOES look like an Anglia. Weird.
Must see if I can find a toy shop somewhere where they have these cheap because it's December and too late for the "Advent Calendar" concept.
[Those things were a real pain when I was a kid: there were 24 pieces of nasty overpriced chocolate that I wasn't allowed to eat until the "correct" day came round.
That should have taught me self control and discipline.
It didn't.
And THAT is why I still buy Lego.]
[ I don't know how you people can actually open the doors one day at a time.
Ah! You don't! You're just pretending! Thought so... ]
Excellent offering from the Advent calendar. Something like this is what each day should bring. Charming, fun, and instantly recognizable.

C'mon. That's what the comments are for- discussing the various builds.
Read them in order if you're so worried about it, or forego the comments until you've looked at them all. I don't bear the responsibility for your media consumption habits.

...or, you could be respectful of others, and give people a chance to enjoy things. Literally leaving out one spolier word would not have impacted the ability to discuss the other calendars.
I look at the articles for the calendars that I don't have early in the day, and save the ones I do have for after I get home and have opened them. I believe many others do something similar, and is part of the reason why each calendar is its own article.
Been doing that here for several years, and people have always been respectful of spoilers. Most people can wait to pit the calendars against each other in the wrap-up article.
I love it and it beats City. I think they are taking the microbuilds to the next level.
And any set where I get a extra minifigure stand is a win from me

Boring! I think most commentors woud rather favor a free-spirited debate rather than worrying about whether you have looked at all the AC articles prior to reading the comments in the next-to-last one.
Think of it this way, it's an easy fix for you, and allows many of us to enjoy ourselves. It also helps BS with increased site activity.
Why bother to have a comment section if we have to be that careful? Boring.
I had fun using the extra pieces this came with to add extra branches onto the willow, tried to make it look mid-swipe at the car

Don't spoil yourself by reading comments then...
The world doesn't revolve around you. Stop being mad at others for living their life. Go live yours.

Let's agree to disagree...
All it needs is a pile of tiny blue feathers underneath…
@Binnekamp:
They were for the original run of sets, and the re-reboot this year, but the 2018-2021 run is actually accurate to the colors used in the films. No sand-green.
@MLF:
I’ve been reading these for years, and this is literally the first time I’ve seen someone ask that the comment section remain spoiler-free, or claim (incorrectly) that they always have been in the past. This may be the first time you’ve had something spoiled, but it’s fairly common. Maybe it never happened to one you were building, or the spoilers came after you built your model, but this definitely isn’t the first time. Front page stays spoiler-free for every AC, individual articles may avoid spoiling the specifics of any reviews posted earlier that day, but comments have never been so tightly controlled.
So with the extra pieces in this - you can add another whole branch, and using the extra clear piece, make it actually whomp.
I didn't know a roller skate piece could be attached that way.
@TheOtherMike:
I hadn’t ever thought about it, but only because I’ve never needed to do so before. Seems pretty obvious, though. The only potential conflict would be if the toe brake was too wide to fit inside the plate. With certain restrictions, the skate can be used like a 1x1 plate. Obviously, the toe brake creates a potential intersect, but so does the heel that sticks out a tiny bit farther than it needs to. The rest of it stays perfectly “on grid”.

City's piano is going to look nice in my WV church, so I really liked it.

Nice. The piano's really good. It's definitely a tough call.
