Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 7

Posted by ,

76404 Harry Potter Advent Calendar has closely followed a pattern so far, presenting three items from The Philosopher's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets on sequential days.

Attention should therefore shift to The Prisoner of Azkaban next...

The Knight Bus' opportune arrival is among the most memorable moments during The Prisoner of Azkaban, so is a welcome addition to this Advent Calendar. The triple-decker bus looks nice, with trans-clear 1x2 plates denoting its three levels of windows and a 1x1 bracket forming the radiator grille on the front. The accompanying street lamp is splendid too, though hugely oversized!

Overall - This recreation of the Knight Bus' arrival is superb, but a larger version of the bus would have provided some play value, which this lacks.

Finally, something good. I like it. Fun scene. Good colors. On topic. Well-designed. Good parts.

Yay! With a wave of magical wand, my Xmas spirit is back.

It wins the Day easily... so far.

Perhaps at least put the bus on black roller skate pieces so it can be popped off and zoomed around?

Ideal size for a minifig toy... I can imagine the Weasley boys had a toy one growing up

The lack of roller skates hurts this, but I don't think you can put two of them on a 1x2 plate? Also, maybe a lightsaber piece on a 1x1 with stump would have made a slightly smaller lamp.

Two roller skates can fit side-by-side, only if they are rotate 90°. To place them in-line like wheels, you need at least a half-stud gap…and then you’d have eight wheels on your four-axle Knight Bus. It’d look weird.

As for the lamp, black telescope, trans-orange 1x1 round plate, black 1x1 round tile. Simple, short, and a little more ornate.

They could have used a candlestick and 1x1 plate with a shaft for the base of the lamp. Honestly, though, I feel some other structure would have made a better and more to scale compliment to the bus.

Yeah, that's the difficulty at the 1x2 scale. It would look like a trolley. But better than the flat circular tiles. It's a hover craft.

“Where we’re going, we don’t need wands!” Wait, wrong movie…

I think criticism of this is harsh - it's an excellent model at such a small scale.

This gives me 4755 vibes because of the inclusion of the street lamp. A very nice micro vignette! This calender has been pretty good at those!

Well, but stuff like this would certainly benefit if they ever decided to make those goofy kiddie skateboards from the 70’s, which would translate into the LEGO form of basically a 1x2 roller skate element. Almost nothing else on this planet would be improved, but microscale trucks and busses would throw their hats in the air over that one. I’m not holding my breath on that one, though. When viewed from a high angle, horizontal 1x1 round plates do actually present a surprisingly convincing profile of vertical tires.
