Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 9
Posted by CapnRex101,
With two microscale scenes from The Prisoner of Azkaban appearing on days seven and eight, day nine should introduce a new minifigure from this celebrated film.
There are various possible options...
Harry Potter Advent Calendars generally provide a good selection of new minifigures and Sirius Black joins the roster today. Sirius appears in few different attires during the movies, providing limited options for LEGO. However, his shirt from the Azkaban Prison wanted poster represents an interesting and pleasingly obscure choice, with a striking reddish brown zigzag pattern.
I like the dark brown hair element selected for Sirius, although I think the shorter hairstyle shown on the poster in 75955 Hogwarts Express would be even better. Moreover, a new double-sided head with a more manic screaming expression would have been appreciated, as Sirius' existing alternative face seems angry, rather than desperate and outwardly mad.
Sirius carries a 1x2 tile, decorated with his prisoner number. This design is simplified in relation to the onscreen prop, but corresponds with Bellatrix Lestrange's accessory in the second series of Harry Potter Collectable Minifigures. Also, the minifigure stands on a flame yellowish orange 2x4 plate, continued from previous The Prisoner of Azkaban items in the calendar.
Overall - While not necessarily the more desirable variant, Sirius Black is a popular character and obscure references are always fun.

I think this deep cut is too deep. I had to do a lot of googling when seeing the images of the calendar to understand where this shirt came from. On the wanted poster it looks like he's just wearing his prison uniform. Still, it's a nice shirt, which fits in Grimmauld Place.
I thought it was a jumper he wore at Grim Old Place but a quick google search is making me think I may have imagined him wearing it there.
With that shirt he looks like he’s going bowling. Are we sure this isn’t Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski?
It's that Barry Gibb hairpiece again. He should be dancin'.
Nothing says “Christmas” like getting your mug shot taken…

I’m thinking it would have tipped the wrong people off if they asked his personal effects be forwarded right after his escape. I haven’t read the books, but he basically died a fugitive, didn’t he?
I assumed it was something he wore in one of the later films. Kind of weird choice cos you can barely see it on the poster.
I agree about the hair
He was wearing prison stripes in the Azkaban photo, this is just a normal sweater.

While not clearly apparent onscreen, Sirius is wearing this shirt on the Azkaban poster. The zigzag pattern is more visible underneath the sign on posters made to promote the movie. This is the best photo of the poster I could find: https://imgur.com/a/xlGeoaF

Well, that sucks. Not the sweater, but the mugshot tile. In the photo, you see two
Lines that just start to connect, like the far left character is an “X” or a “K”, and the printed element looks more like a drunk Sigma. Clearly not the same character at all.
I was hoping for the "skanky teeth" version we didn't get from 76407 but this is an interesting deep dive.

Ha! Maybe ol' Purple has lived a life of greater interest than he let's on?
Yes, Sirius dies a fugitive. I love this fig. The graphics are outstanding and the printed tile is fantastic! If they do one for Hagrid, we could end up with a great Azkaban perp lineup. ;)
HP needs to keep making the deeper and deeper cut. The same ol' figs are boring and long-time collectors have so many. Why does it seem that the HP budget for printed pieces far outstrips the SW?

When you're right, you're right. Good eye.
@WemWem: Well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. Although now you've got me picturing a head swap between this fig and Obadiah Stane from 76190.
@StyleCounselor:
I...have to confess, I do own a shirt featuring mugshots of minifig versions of Harry and Marv. I just bought it last month to wear to the Home Alone concert at Detroit Symphony Orchestra, where I will be debuting Phase 2 of my Home Alone project. See? Christmas. Mug shots. Tradition going back over 30 years.
