Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 20

Posted by ,

The last minifigure arrived on day fourteen, so we are probably overdue to receive another one from the Star Wars Advent Calendar at this point, although I expected that yesterday.

See what today reveals after the break...

Various characters have taken on the seasonal minifigure role in Star Wars Advent Calendars, including Yoda, Darth Maul, Jango Fett and Darth Vader. Emperor Palpatine joins that roster today, wearing a Christmas jumper that features the Death Star II between two bolts of Force Lightning! This design looks fantastic, although Darth Vader was similarly dressed in 2020, so maybe there was a chance for greater variety. I would have loved to find a Sith emblem on the back, for example.

As we see in the Prequel Trilogy, red is definitely Palpatine's colour and I think combining the jumper with his standard robes works perfectly, as though the Sith Lord has pulled the jumper on over the top. That would explain why his hood remains but his cape is missing, presumably trapped beneath the jumper.

Palpatine's love of red clearly extends to crockery, as he comes with a red mug, as well as the expected Force Lightning element. His angry expression looks superb with this accessory, but perhaps Sidious could have featured a new double-sided head, displaying an evil smile for the festive season.

Overall - Emperor Palpatine is an ideal character for a seasonal transformation and his jumper looks wonderfully silly.

“Galaxy’s Best Emperor.” (SCOFFS) Huh. This is actually pretty thoughtful. Why was I so mean about it? In fact, why am I always so mean? (GASPS) It’s a Life Day miracle! Oh that’s it. That’s it! From now on, no more Dark Side! No more ruling the galaxy! Ol’ Sheevy Palpatine is gonna change his way.

But seriously, this thing is begging for the mug from the LSWHS. Or at least a white mug. Otherwise, it's great. Just needs that mug.

Was excited for this mug; after seeing Vader from 2020 (this being my first Lego calendar since I got a “Lego themed” calendar when I was 4-5) I feel like it could’ve been cooler? Regardless, I still think the palpatine figure is cool

It was this point I started to accept Lego'a portrayal of Palps as a comedy villain. Before that I wasn't jiving with how he was being done.

Also at least it is slightly different from Vader's, being a Death Star 2 jumper to Vader's Death Star 1

My only issue with Lego Palpatine is that Robot Chicken Palpatine is infinitely better, even if he is the R-rated version. I really wish Disney had gotten Seth McFarlane to do the Lego version just for consistency, but I'm asking for too much.

And the Lego special essentially did the same joke (Palpatine having a change of heart on his way down the shaft). https://www.youtube.com/shorts/OOlVmXWnO-M

By in Germany,

Two pieces, and it would be PERFECT: a cloak and a second force lighning!
Day 20:

5. HP - by itself, an image of sad loneliness
4. Marvel - I can't even remember if we had some actual oy builds this year. Rather refreshing.
3. Friends - did you notice you can decorate the bunny with a spare candle flame piece?
2. City - It's a rat... a dog... it's ratdog!
1. “Galaxy’s Best Emperor.” -> Throne tomorrow, ISD on 22nd, glider 23rd and Ewok on sunday?

By in Germany,

While his torso is similar to 2020 Vader, I appreciate that Vader has a complete Death Star and Palpatine has Death Star II (with some extra lightning). They've got matching sweaters for the Imperial holiday party, how sweet!

A very fun figure, and a nice addition to the Christmas Star Wars figure lineup.

Gimme, gimme, gimme!!

Nice, but needs the Dad/Emperor mug. It's from their own freaking special! Sith emblem would've made it perfect.

I agree that matching Vader makes it even more hilariously corporate or father/son.

Emperor Palpatine looked out
On the feast of Life Day
At the rebels all put to rout
By his moon-sized death ray

I feel like it’s missing something. Perhaps the Chief from Teen Titans Go!’s Doom Patrol yelling about how the lightning bolts make this sweater _E_X_T_R_E_M_E_!!!!!!! Yeah, that’s probably it.

"Everything That Has Transpired Has Done So According to My Design"
Words to live by! in fact I won't lie, this is definitely me when everything that has transpired has done so according to my design!!!
Hubris perhaps?!!

I like that the Vader and Emperor jersies are similar but appropriate- Vader's has a complete Death Star 1, whilst Palpatine has a "fully operational" incomplete Death Star 2, plus lightning bolts.
