Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 10

Posted by ,

The two earlier Hogwarts students have been followed by statues inspired by their respective house animals, ready to stand on the matching plinths with each minifigure.

I expect the same for Hufflepuff today...

These winged animal statues have been pretty abstract and the badger is no exception. Much like the lion from day two, I find its stubby limbs quite fun and the head shape is reasonable for the animal it is intended to depict, featuring a 1x1 clip for the ears. The 3x3 wedge plate forming wings also matches the lion, so they should work well together.

Having said that, I can understand why these statues have not been particularly well-received thus far. They are an odd choice for the calendar and the winged statues shown in the movies are rather obscure, despite appearing in the background throughout the series, as discussed a few days ago.

Overall - Hufflepuff's badger statue looks good once mounted on its plinth, albeit abstract.

Talk about a mini build that does't care. Mini-badger doesn't give a BLEEP.

Damnit I was gonna do that! Have to wait for the Slytherin one to show up before we can do the next bit of the song I guess

I think I would have guessed 'squirrel' if you told me it was an animal.

I'll have to look back at previous days to see what style they've been going for.

It looks more like a statue of a tardigrade. Which I'm not against.

Badgers? We don’t need no stinking badgers!

Could also be a hippo. Why isn't Hufflepuff's mascot a hippo? They're far more intimidating than badgers. AND they care. At least, until they catch up to you.

But the mini-badger is really pretty badass. They have no regard for any other mini-build whatsoever.

It showed (as @Binnekamp noted) on Day Seven. https://brickset.com/article/115593/harry-potter-advent-calendar-day-7"

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Which might be a little bit of an indictment against the models...

Okay, it's a badger.
But why do these animals have wings?
At least eagles actually have wings.

Ravenclaw's will be the only one without wings, just you watch.

I'm beginning to dread what they'll do with Ravenclaw's statue. I'm not a huge HP fan, but this is kind of embarrassing.

At least it's not an angry murder penguin.

Although the builds are so odd that it could be, and we'd be none the wiser.

I was today years old when I learned that the only difference between a Lego lion and badger is two gray pieces....

My favorite Badger is still the Wisconsin Badger!

GO BIG RED!

Why did they include a statue of George from Rainbow?

I'm not sure why we keep getting obscure Star Wars battleclubs in this AC. But, I like it.

Seriously, the HP AC is quite remarkable for how boring it is while also being filled with obscure references, cool new prints, and lits of great, reusable accessories.

Not really sure how to feel. (Now, where's that egg nog?!)
