Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 13

Posted by ,

Presuming the pattern of the Advent Calendar continues into its second half, a new Hogwarts student should arrive today, likely belonging to Ravenclaw house.

Find out after the break...

Cho Chang is often selected as the Ravenclaw representative and this Advent Calendar is no different. Like her fellow students, Cho includes a new torso featuring her house colours and a patterned scarf, complete with the Ravenclaw symbol. This design looks great and I appreciate that the characters' scarves each hang slightly differently, so they look fairly realistic.

In addition, Cho's double-sided head and hair element are both new! A greater variety of warm tan heads is very welcome and the exclusive hair piece was a nice surprise, as I expected Cho to continue using the rubbery piece from several of her previous appearances.

The minifigure is equipped with a reddish brown wand and a decorated Ravenclaw plinth, again matching the three other students from days one, six and nine.

Overall - Cho's new torso looks superb, but this minifigure also has the bonuses of a new head and hair piece!

I was hoping for a Luna Lovegood minifig. That said, interesting to see a year 1 or 2 version of the character who debuted in film 4.
And Luna Lovegood didn't debut until film 5 too. But come on, we've had so many Cho Changs already you'd think she's a main character in the entire story anyway.

Agreed. Let the smart house have more diversity in their representation!

I thought the idea might be to have characters who were all from Harry's year (with us having Susan Bones rather than, say Cedric Diggory for Hufflepuff) except I think Cho is actually from the year above so there goes that theory

Why she's sad?

I’ve noticed that, when they come out with a matched set of House torsos, one of two things happens. In most cases, three Houses get a white student, and the fourth House is always Ravenclaw. And the other possibility is that all four students are wearing gloves, so it’s not an issue.

The reason this sticks out in my mind is that, officially, hands are never to be removed from the torso assemblies. So it’s like they don’t think anyone would want to have minifigs based on any white Ravenclaws, or any non-white students from the other three Houses. Unless they’re wearing gloves.

I like how the tile takes the blue and bronze color scheme from the books to switch things up. However, I wish the uniform matched rather than being the movies' blue and gray, especially since uniform variations from past advent calendars haven't appeared again.

This is the first HPAC where they produced a torso for each of the four Houses. The only other one that comes close was the one with three un-Sorted torsos, but those did show up in another set later on. Mostly they’ve just tried to represent specific characters and their equally specific outfits. The first HPAC had what, at first glance, appeared to be a generic Gryffindor torso, but Harry and Ron were both wearing their knitted “letter” sweaters, so Hermione’s scarf torso was meant to represent what she was wearing when she came to say goodbye before heading home for the holidays.

Her first boyfriend was Edward Cullen.
Her second boyfriend was Harry Potter.

Take your pick of reasons.
