Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 20

Posted by ,

Professor Flitwick arrived with a portrait on day nineteen. I am sure the professor can continue preparing the Great Hall for Christmas, although the portrait needs somewhere to go.

That somewhere could arrive today...

76435 Hogwarts Castle: The Great Hall received a degree of criticism for lacking a fireplace in the titular hall. This one should suffice though, featuring nice texture thanks to the tan masonry bricks included. Looking at the calendar's packaging, I assumed yesterday's portrait would be displayed here, but we actually receive a second with the fireplace. Helga Hufflepuff was mine and definitely warrants pride of place in the Great Hall, as a founder of Hogwarts.

Overall - I like the design of this fireplace and another collectable portrait is very welcome, but maybe a garland or similar seasonal decoration could be added.

It still feels a bit weird not to get a student with house pedestal, statue or house table from this calender.
This fireplace is nice enough btw. I like how the inside of the hearth has the masonry brick texture.

My favorite HP advent calendar fireplace is the one from 2021 76390 since that one spews hogwarts letters but this one is nice enough. I'm not sure who my portrait is, another lady, but not Helga. I added yesterday's portrait to the fireplace too, so now it looks sort of unbalanced but maybe a third one will appear and it will be like one of those tri-fold frames on top of the fireplace.

I got Godric, based on the sword. But the fireplace itself, I had to guess that the brick side of the first two masonry bricks should point forward through the fire, since I couldn’t see the critical parts of the pattern.

Nice build. I got Rowena.

That’s some nice texture work with the brickwork there

And @CapnRex101 got Helga. Did anyone get Salazar? @la1emperatriz got an unidentified lady. If they got Rowena, then they might have limited the possible portraits to the Hogwarts founders, which would be a nice touch.

No, yesterday I got Radagast the Brown, remember?

I got Salazar today so they may well have only put the founders in. Nice touch!

I meant just in todays, so nobody would have some random wizard hanging above the mantel.

@TheOtherMike:
I’m not sure they have that level of control. My understanding is, when they do randomized items like this, once everything has been through the final manufacturing step, they just get mixed together and treated as a single element. This would include DOTS tiles, HP Chocolate Frog and Portrait tiles, Friends random-packed animals, and Bionicle masks. From a warehousing standpoint, this would certainly make sense, as you wouldn’t want to inventory all that stuff separately only to jumble things up at the end. Now, Bionicle masks did get a little more complex, because frequently mask packs would give you one random Item A, one random Item B, and so on. They’d need to keep the A batch separate from the B batch to ensure every pack got the correct mix of parts, while DOTS tiles were likely drawn from a single source for each wave. And CMFs appear to be tracked to ensure that the case sorts are anything _but_ random, excluding Mr. Gold of course.

Anyways, now that I’m home, I was able to check my part out HPAC (I always buy at least two). No House founders. With Flitwick, I got a man in a full suit of armor. With the fireplace, a woman surrounded by white tree leaves, and a feather in her witch hat (but no cup or diadem). So, just a random cowinkydink.
