Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary and Mojang's A Minecraft Movie, releasing in April, has attracted considerable attention since its first trailer debuted in September. Two tie-in sets have now been revealed by LEGO; both will be released on the 1st of March.

Some unique models are included, which seem like they will complement the game-based sets quite well. Jack Black's Steve (the actor's first-ever minifigure) and the 'misfit' protagonists Garrett, Henry, Natalie and Dawn also feature, as well as plenty of familiar mobs with interesting new designs!

Hm...first ever Jack Black figure, eh?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

He may be a Great Hog, but are there 30 - 50 more to come?

I definitely need the Jason Momoa minifigure's head, that's too funny not to go into a MOC somewhere.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The more I see about this film the more I question its design choices. Going to be an interesting day on April 4th.

Edit - I LOVE that print on the iron golem torso, I may have to grab a couple of those for regular MOCs!

Bowser kind of counts, right?

Honestly, I like these. Maybe not enough to buy, but they look like neat playsets. Little surreal seeing actual minifigure heads in a Minecraft set however.

By in Poland,

So these are Lego adaptations of live-action adaptations of voxel based video game characters, reusing molds originally created for Lego's direct adaptations of said voxel based video game characters?

So much layers to this thing

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Other then having an accurate Jack Black print, really not impressed. The builds are pretty basic and uninteresting, and they do zero to inspire any confidence in a movie that people already had low confidence in.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Jack Black is still around? I thought he kicked the bucket after doing Tommy Boy.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Jason Momoa joins the short list of actors with 3 minifigures. Stellan Skarsgaard still leads with 4

Gravatar
By in United States,

why did they give the zombie nostrils...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Seeing Jack Black is lego kinda scares me.
Because like, with most minifigs based on actors it's like, yeah I can kinda see it! The spirit is there :)
But Jack Black is so distinct, that a minifig based on him, it's like AGGRESSIVELY Jack Black.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just a week ago I was thinking how if I did a Stargate MOC there were no good minifig heads for Ronon Dex... Lots of brown pieces too. I'll pick that one up if it goes on clearance

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Even when I'm not a Minecraft fan whatsoever, but with the regular sets I can see and appreciate what they are going for. Here....not so much. The movie trailer looked weird, and these sets aren't much better. Regular minifigs with Minecraft is just weird.

As for Jack Black....I can think of plenty of roles I would have much rather seen a minifig of...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I do not like them, as an avid Minecraft fan.

The Ghast one is lackluster, with the Minecraft figures having weird printing (hyper detailed villager looks very off), the buildings being very shallow, and as I expected normal minifigures for the actors (they're going to look so weird in the movie). The Ghast itself is the highlight, as it's a new design, but for $70 it's not worth it.

Now. The 'Woodland Mansion' one.

Contender for worst Lego Minecraft set. The 'Woodland Mansion' is a balcony that looks more like a badlands mineshaft, and the arena is so overbuilt when parts budget was needed elsewhere it's pretty funny. Again, the Minecraft mobs (zombie in this case) look weird. They demonstrate Lego isn't doing as well as it could for the normal Minecraft sets, but these hyper-detail look out of place. The simplicity of the big chicken shows how blocky plays to Minecraft's strengths.

The Piglin King or whatever... hoo boy. They took the Warden's general gameplan with the extended mixel ball joints, which is an excellent design, then shrimpified it, muddied the color pallet immensely, and then removed its back. So the result is an ugly, under yet overbuilt figure (with an odd pink fist. movie speculation...).

Honestly, the best part of these sets is the non-Minecraft parts, the actor's normal minifugres. They're detailed, they look good, they just don't really fit in block land. That and Ghast & big Chicken.

Overall, very meh. First time in a while I have 0 incentive to pick a Minecraft set up.

Am I being way too critical? Yeah, probably. But it's my favorite theme and Woodland Mansion got everyone thinking we'd finally get an Evoker (Arch-Illager one day!), so I guess I care more about the sets that come out of it than other themes.

Looking forward to summer sets though, like other themes it seems this year might be a banger.

Even still,
The original list had him as
Jango Fett, Clone Pilot(s), Captain Jag

Since then,we have had (off the top of my head) a Phase 2 Cody, Oddball in the latest Arc, Book of Boba Boba...

Also did he portray Rex in Ahsoka?

By in United States,

For what it's worth these sets aren't half bad... not as a bad as the movie itself, anyways. I might get 21272 when it inevitably goes on clearance (because let's be honest, these sets are immediately getting discounted after A Minecraft Movie flops), because I kind of like the idea of a competitive minifigure fighting ring. It'd be kinda fun placing random minifigures from my collection on the stands and having them fight.

Gravatar
By in United States,

"Fighting Ring" seems like a weird choice for a set aimed at kids. But I guess it must be a integral part of the movie.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@bnic99 @vizzitor I'm only counting minifigs where you see the actor's face. I'm also not counting all of Temuera Morrison's clones.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The minifigures of the Minecraft mobs are over designed and look kinda off. Just like the movie!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like I’ve got another zombie to pick up. Still need the new zombie piglin, too.

@bnic99:
I’m not really sure how Morrison gets counted. Certainly the vast majority of clonetroopers seen on screen were non-speaking roles with CGI animation, in an armored outfit that conceals every square inch of skin, so nobody performed the role. And aside from the mention of IMDb credits being the baseline, the list of rules don’t really explain how his count is derived. Perhaps @CapnRex101 should explain his count in detail the next time that list gets updated. Which feels overdue, considering the previous editions were 2016, 2018, and 2020.

Albeit it a bizarre limitation, or convenient retrospect. Warwick Davies always tops the list for the (general) statement "which actor has had the most minfigs"

(although I was surprised that wasn't Chris Pratt from how ubiquitous he became)

It's just that if Lego made a minifigure of me, I wouldn't want it to be me in a teddy bear costume, me with a green alien mask or me with a helmet on and no head underneath. I would want it to have my face, otherwise it isn't really me.

I hate the trend too, specifically for marvel because people seem to espescially hate on marvel before being out these days. But have you seen the trailers for the movie? Full of "he's right behind me isn't he" and just cringe lines (i.e. "as a child i yearned for the mines" or "I................. am steve." [it's not that surprising, and should they know who steve is?]) Just overall it looks horrible, and while I'm not going to watch it, if it gets good reviews then good for it. Also if it does I'll eat my shoe.

This is not the first time this has happened! There's a TARDIS / police box (which is a BBC copywritten symbol) and a metal slinky in the lifestyle photos of 2023 set 60380 as well. I remember pointing out them before.

If we're counting voice actors, Dee Bradley Baker has an uncountable amount of minifigures, having voiced all of the clones.

I'm not a Minecraft player or fan, but I have some Minecraft sets for the minifigs. I didn't even know there was a movie coming out until I read this article, so I watched the trailer. I see where they're going and for a movie aimed at kids 6-18, it looks like it will be good. I don't see why people are negative on these Lego sets though; they're essentially the same as all the other Minecraft sets. I'm glad they went with the younger Jack Black instead of the grey, grizzly look he has in the later parts of the movie. A good mix of minifig variations. The only thing to complain about is the price per piece on The Ghast Balloon Village Attack. Let people have their fun.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Hmmm...which is 'worse': the sets that are based off the movie, or the movie for which the sets are based on...

Seriously, this is like "The Lego Ninjago Movie"; where it WAS 'Ninjago', but tangentially so (using the names of characters, rewriting the history/lore, slightly altering 'the look/feel'...). Funnier still, the comparative has an 'added layer', as Universal looking to make a live-action 'Ninjago' movie...let's hope minds are changed...:|

I absolutely hate the name of the movie now. Having an indefinite article right at the start there while describing multiple sets being revealed annoys my grammar.

Frankly I'd rather movies just *not* start with an indefinite article at all. A definite article ('The') has a longer and more successful history of being used in titles and promotes the movie better as the definitive version, rather than just one of many as an indefinite naturally implies.

Why, because every single time this subject comes up someone tries to credit an actor for a minifig that's not even based on a film or TV series? "But they both have the same hair color...and they're each right-handed!" Nope. It's wearying.

"Pick of Destiny" is a good deal older than that. That's the musical/album that brought us Tribute. Meat Loaf and Dio had bit-parts in one of the songs, so, you know..."

Dave Grohl as Satan sounds about right. Yet, I just don't know. Perhaps I'll throw it on.

At the risk of sounding like P. Plum, it is High Fidelity that's older (6 yrs). HF is basically the film that launched Black's career.

How about Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones, Han Solo, Red Hulk)? That's three, and his face is showing in all three. Either way, if the films' credit / IMDB has them in that role, then they played that role - face obscured or not, they were that character.
