LEGO at SDCC 2017 - news roundup
Posted by TheBrickPal,San Diego Comic-Con 2017 is coming fast - tomorrow, actually - so it should come as no surprise that The LEGO Group has announced some more things it has up its sleeve for the event.
Read on after the break for a quick roundup of recent news, and recapping of what to expect.
The Booth (#2829)
Sets
Three new DC Comics Super Heroes sets, due for release next year, will be on display:
I am unaware of any other 2018 sets to be on display there, but who knows? New waves of other themes, rather than just DC, have been teased in years past, so I would not be surprised - regardless of the fact that there have been no other online reveals prior to the convention.
Sets from The LEGO NINJAGO Movie will be on display and available to purchase early before their general release on August 1st. garmadon, Garmadon, GARMADON!, available in December and heretofore unseen, will be on display as well.
While not a certainty, a new direct-to-consumer set could also be announced. 70751 Temple of Airjitzu and 71040 Disney Castle were on display in 2015 and 2016, respectively. However, this year's September D2C release, 70620 NINJAGO City, was already revealed last month, so perhaps we'll get nothing.
Sculptures
At least three brick sculptures will also be on display: The Flash from Warner Bros' Justice League, Thor from Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok, and Luke Skywalker from Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. You can see the latter two before, and the former in the linked article.
Other
Garmadon and Lloyd sculptures, of course based on The LEGO NINJAGO Movie, will be built at the LEGO booth with help from fans and cast members. Garmadon will be built on Thursday and Friday, while Lloyd will on Saturday and Sunday.
On Friday, July 21st at 3 PM, LEGO artist Dan Veesenmeyer will be doing a signing at the LEGO booth to promote his upcoming book LEGO NINJAGO: How to Draw Ninja, Villains and More. Dan had previously done work for LEGO Club Magazine and LEGO video games.

Unikitty! New Episode Premiere and Q&A (11:15 AM-12:15 PM, Room 6A)
Your favorite character from The LEGO Movie now has her own show! Journey to a joyous kingdom full of sparkle matter, happy thoughts and the occasional rage-out in Unikitty!, an all-new animated series. As ruler of the kingdom, Unikitty has busy days full of royal responsibilities. Unikitty is most interested in making sure everyone is happy and ridding the kingdom of negativity, but don’t misunderstand her optimism — she is one kitty not to be crossed. While she may be full of boundless energy and creativity, Unikitty is a force to be reckoned with if anyone gets in the way of spreading her positive vibes, especially if anyone makes her little brother and best friend, Puppycorn, sad. Also living in the castle are Dr. Fox, the resident scientist, and Unikitty’s trusty bodyguard, Hawkodile.
Join producers Edward Skudder, Lynn Wang and members of the voice cast, including Eric Bauza, as they give a sneak peek of this new series and explain how Unikitty and her friends will make sure that every day is the happiest and most creative ever!
The LEGO NINJAGO Movie (6:45 PM–7:45 PM, Room 6A)
This quite humorous teaser video, for the film's presence at SDCC, was uploaded this morning:
A new trailer is also likely to hit. We will let you know when that happens!
In this big screen Ninjago adventure, the battle for Ninjago City calls to action young Master Builder Lloyd, a.k.a. the Green Ninja (Dave Franco), along with his friends, who are all secret ninja warriors. Led by Master Wu (Jackie Chan), as wise-cracking as he is wise, they must defeat evil warlord Garmadon (Justin Theroux), the Worst Guy Ever, who also happens to be Lloyd’s dad. Pitting mech against mech and father against son, the epic showdown will test this fierce but undisciplined team of modern-day ninjas who must learn to check their egos and pull together to unleash their inner power of Spinjitzu.
On Thursday evening, attend a panel for “The LEGO NINJAGO Movie” in the convention hall’s room 6A, with stars Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, Abbi Jacobson, Olivia Munn, Kumail Nanjiani, Michael Peña and Zach Woods and producer Dan Lin. Attendees will receive an exclusive, movie-themed giveaway.

notice how there's zero presence of lego dimensions!
^ As Robin would say, "RRRRRRRRRIIIIIP!"
@CM4Sci that might be because there is nothing to showcase, since they showed so much at e3.
Wasn't there also an exclusive minifigure/set for Ninjago Movie? I've read that on HothBricks.
@CM4Sci im wondering if we wont get any Lego Dimensions news until December. Think about this - Lego Marvel Superheroes are taking a similar theme about time being ripped apart and different worlds being smashed together. What if this is a prelude to Lego Marvel Superheroes joining Lego Dimensions next year? Maybe an end credits cutscene leading into Dimensions?

Interesting details:
-Deadpool Duck will be the exclusive Marvel minifigure.
-New NINJAGO Movie trailer completely confirmed.
-The garmadon, Garmadon, GARMADON! set will be revealed and on display.
I will update the article to reflect this.
@Dark Yada Not that I'm aware. Apparently panel attendees will get something exclusive, but I'm not sure if it's even brick-based.
Article states: "LEGO will be giving exclusives away on their Twitter page." How exactly does this work?
^ They'll send a contest tweet out and you can retweet for a chance to win. They'll then pick someone and contact them.
^ Thank you!
Star Wars fans get to see a sculpture of Luke. And, er... that's it.
There goes that UCS Falcon reveal... But I suppose I should've expected nothing, given the 'Force Friday' merch approach.
No.
