Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent

©2022 LEGO Group

The Instructions Plus app has once again provided the first decent pictures of another forthcoming set, 31132 Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent.

The Creator 3-in-1 set contains 1,192-pieces and in addition to the main model of the ship and serpent, also comes with instructions to construct Fenris Wolf, and a Viking house and dragon.

Four Vikings are included: two male and two female, one of which has a new combined hairpiece-helmet element.

You can view additional images after the break and purchase it at LEGO.com from 1st June. The price is said to be €120, so probably $120 and £100.

Thanks to Promobricks again for extracting the images.

By in United States,

Lol, even the name is a throwback to the wordy set titles of the old Viking sets. EDIT: Oh lol, I didn't realize that it's literally named after a 2005 set.

Looks wonderful! Three very different models.

By in Finland,

For the people who wonder why LEGO still uses horned viking helmets: it just looks better! ;)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Very good torso prints, and the alternate builds look very cool even with the mixed colors, it works.

By in United States,

Viking Ship vs. Goat Boat coming to a Lego Fan's near you.

Also, all three builds look amazing.

Creator 3-in-1 is by far my favorite Lego Theme.

By in United Kingdom,

I am sorry, but I really can't see £100 of value here. I do like it but comparing it to the creator castle or pirate ship it looks quite....basic. hopefully the price is wrong or will look a lot more substantial in the plastic, so to speak!

Agreed, 31109 looks like a more substantial build, and is currently still available in John Lewis in the UK for £80!!!

By in Greece,

Excellent set with all 3 variations being equally interesting!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Okay the Fenris wolf build is pretty cool, and the brick-built sails on the ship look fantastic, but my favorite detail is Huginn and Muninn on the yard. That's a really nice touch!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Do they generally release new torsos in these 3in1 sets? From what I recall both the Medieval Castle 31120 and Pirate Ship 31109 featured torsos already in circulation...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Midgard Serpent is quite cool. As for the ship, I prefer the Goat Boat (sans goats). Its design and colour scheme appeal to me more.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I think the price of 120 euro is too much, comparing it to the other two big 'classic theme' Creator 3in1 sets...

Gravatar
By in United States,

The stacked curved plates on the prow look excellent, the texture really closely matches actual longships

Gravatar
By in United States,

Viking was an underrated line.

31109 has a unique blue captain torso

I suspect it's also just 'cuz historical/fantasy LEGO themes in general tend to focus more on how kids think about those genres/time periods in their imaginations than on strict realism. Same as how themes like Pirates and Castle tend to be heavily influenced by pop culture works like "Treasure Island" and "Ivanhoe" (and other stories that draw on the genre conventions those works helped popularize).

Gravatar
By in United States,

The viking house alt build is totally a homage to How To Train Your Dragon, and I'm here for it.

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

Ship this size needs more minifigs, at least four more. Is there perhaps going to be Viking minifig pack available?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

It'll (most likely) sell for $139 CAD, just like the Pirate/Castle 3-in-1 sets, and for that price it's not up there with the previous two. The ship is nice for being brick built, but it's not nice enough to display. Unlike the Pirate ship. I'm sure it'll have great building technics etc. The two other builds are also not that great. I think the money will be better spent on another Pirate/Castle set to have two out of 3 builds at once.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like this better than the Goat Boat. I like the coloring here more, and I like the shaping of the dragon head at the front of the boat 1000 times more than the goat head (if that's what it is) on the front of Thor's boat.

By in United States,

I feel like the Creator 3-in-1 is heavily underrated. Not only has the theme drastically improved with quality builds in the past few years, but debatably has some of the best sets of the year. Don't believe me?

Animal builds:
(31129, 31121, 31128, 31088)

Homage to original themes:
(31109, 31120, 31132)

Not to mention that I have not included some of the original builds LEGO has released! This year might be the best the Creator 3-in-1 theme has been in a while.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

3 in 1? More like buy 3 times.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I love it. Might buy 2 for the extra figures and to make a wolf/serpent vs Vikings scene. The boat looks really nice, I wasn't sure about brick sails, but the 3 in 1 pirate ship sold me on them

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love this 3-in-1 product line. Pirates, Castles, and now Vikings! As someone who re-discovered LEGO as an adult in 2020, I find this to be a great way to experience these older themes.

Following the historical theme, they should do Western next!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hm…so is that just a generic dragon, or does it have an actual mythological basis? At first I thought it was one of the three roosters of Ragnarok.

Gravatar
By in United States,

How long before somebody make a brickfilm of the Muppets doing "In the Navy", as seen on the Muppets show? Even without Muppets (harder to make 3d sculptured heads sing), I'd like to just see all the Vikings figs from now and the original 2006 line singing and dancing.

Heck, I'd pay to see Marvel's Thor mini-fig be in it too. He's a "Macho Man" and would fit right in. ;-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Woah, is this the first we're seeing of proper Nordic wooden architecture in a LEGO set? I don't even remember the Vikings series having that!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A brilliant subtle detail, Odin’s ravens Huginn and Muninn look great!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks very good, although the kid in me would love to see a cloth sail. I get that it’s Creator with brick built. I feel the same about the pirate ship, as well as brick built farm animals. I guess I just want the full classic theme experience!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Cool set, but I don't think these are enough figures to carry the ship over land. Also, no figure resembling Askeladd, that's disappointing...

A shame too. He's the best character!

Looking at this again I love the callback to the 2005 set even more than ever. But now I noticed that there are no oars. That's a shame...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I haven’t cared much to buy creator sets for a long time, but that might change with this set!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is the female hairpiece with winged circlet a new part?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Very nice. Coincidently, I just saw The Northman last night, so I might have unknowingly entered a Viking phase. All three builds look fantastic!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I don't think the B and C models look good at all. I had high hopes for this set but now doubting if it is worth the money.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll take my chance get 1.. might add Viking house to christmas sets.. hopefully sells well and they make more viking sets..

Gravatar
By in United States,

It does look great. But I agree on value likely not hitting based on price. But I'll take new viking figures any day. Now how do I get multiples...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I actually really like the plough with bullock, that's pretty cool as we never get farming stuff especially anything traditional.

The longboat looks awesome, the Viking House is alright, bit of a let down in my opinion and the Fenris Wolf is of no interest to me whatsoever but its not a bad build.

As far as I can tell all the torso prints are gender neutral which is great (damn well should be too). One male and one female appear to have the same one. Personally I don't understand why the brown haired lady couldn't have had a regular helmet as well, the inclusion of the female Vikings (without helmets) seems like a way for Lego to be scabs with the rare helmet pieces.

Thankfully I have the Viking CMF and also one old 2005 torso but unfortunately I don't have a helmet for him either (which is why this set needed more helmets!

It's the first domestic structure, but 7019 included a fairly accurate, at least to my layman's eye, fortress.

One thing 3-in-1 sets don't usually have is an abundance of minifigs. I don't disagree with your assessment but lots of minifigs isn't something I expect.

Ouch. Looks like another Creator 3-in-1 set I’m gonna need to buy more than one of so that multiple builds can exist simultaneously.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The original version of this set was before my time, but I've always wanted to get my hands on it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just like the original Viking line, all of the torso printings look excellent.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Actually this really neat to see 'confirmed', after I saw "The Northman" last week...
Only thing I'm not crazy over is the 'brick-built' sail, but yes I get it: Creator set=everything must be "buildable"...still...

Also: Wooooow...the Mid-Gard Serpent, AND the Fenris Wolf...in the SAME SET:D...yes, yes; I know: not at the same time...and that HUT:)...little additional building, and viola: Longhouse.

All-in-all well done, hopefully Space is next, or Western, maybe Islanders...I'd say 'sky's the limit', but I think TLG can do better than that:)

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Very interesting to see People complaining about such magnificent set.
I am ususally guuy who complains a lot (for example IMO almost whole new Jurrasic World lineup is a disgrace), but here? This set is perfect! Even the sail looks great and way better than in pirate ship.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

FOR ASGARD!!!! Wait, wrong vikings :)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Would like to see this at 80-90€ but I like the ship and the hut, the wolf is okay but lacks articulation in the legs. Minifigs are nice, overall a good set if you get it 20-30% off.

Yikes! I'm going to need 3 of these.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

The need to buy this is growing in me every new article pops up. Obviously its too pricey and that Fenris Wolf tail is super strange. But the drakkar and minifigs are splendid!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gonna get two of these, one to build, then one to use to mod and make better that Thor Goat Boat.

Horns on a viking helmet is an automatic pass for me

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, this one is really good. Great details and fantastic alternate builds. I do wish it had more sailors, and some oars too.

The original Vikings sets were my favorite line of the era, even though they went for size over detail. The monsters, utilizing Bionicle-style pieces, were a revelation.

I wonder if these one-off sets, fantastic as they are, trigger children's imaginations (and their desires to purchase) the same way a fully fleshed-out line of sets does. I hope so. I want to see more.

Giant sea serpent is fine but pointy bits on a hat is just a step too far from realism for you?

I mean you're welcome to die on whichever hill you choose, but they do come off you know."

Yeah, but given there is a decent representation of a viking helm, they could at least use it.
Sea serpents part of the viking mythology so I have no issue with it.

I generally like horned helmets for being iconic, but these in particular I don't much care for just due to the lack of back. The figure just looks bald with the helmet on, I would have liked if they reused the spectacle helm from the series 20 viking figure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Brickchap Lol the blonde woman does have a Viking helmet.
$120 isn’t a horrible price for this but compared to the Pirate Ship and most other LEGO Creator sets it should be lower. I might try making a recolor of this with parts I already have but it depends on whether I’ll use a Viking ship in my Brickfilms or not. The way of building the ship without resorting to specialized molds is clever as always. Historically, women were usually the targets of Vikings’ sexual violence but since this is kid-friendly and the inclusion of the Midgard Serpent makes it clear that they’re not going for historical accuracy it’s cool that they’re Vikings, too. Are raiding, arson and murdering noncombatants still off the table for Minifigure Vikings? :P

Am I the only one who remembers early promo images for Vikings sets having horns which curved up almost vertically, rather than the horizontal ones that ended up being released?
