36 projects qualify for third 2022 Ideas review
Posted by Huw,
The latest LEGO Ideas review period ended yesterday with 36 projects achieving 10,000 supporters in the preceding four months.
Once again there's a veritable smorgasbord of Ideas among the successful projects, which you can view after the break.
If this year follows the same pattern as previous years, the timetable for review announcements will be as follows:
- End of February: results of the second 2022 review period
- Mid-July: results of this, the third 2022 review period
- September/October: results of the first 2023 review period
The backlog of approved ideas currently looks like this:
- A-Frame and BTS Dynamite, approved in February 2022
- Hocus Pocus, approved in July 2022
- Orient Express, Tales of a Space Age, Insects, and Polaroid camera, approved in September 2022
We are also awaiting the release of competition winners and fan votes as well: Tribute to Galileo, Viking Village, Your Family Tree, and whatever is selected from the recent Dungeons and Dragons competition.
It will therefore be well into next year before anything approved from this selection makes it onto the shelves.
Let us know in the comments which models you'd like to be able to buy in spring 2024.

C'mon Lego, surely time for Thunderbirds! Massive IP opportunity too!
Given how utterly out of touch with consumer interest Lego seems to be at the moment, certainly with the Ideas range, I’m struggling to even care.
There's a lot in here I love! Thunderbirds obviously, but I suspect it's too niche. Doctor Who got made, but I think that has a larger fanbase.
The Roman temple is great, as is Jack Skellington's house. I feel like the Cipher machine has a pretty good chance, if the mechanism can be made in a way that's suitable for retail. I love the Underground set too, feel that has a decent chance.
Solid round all round though :)
The UP set is supposed to be offical later this year, I would like the London Underground set to go with the big Bus.
As usual there's some tat here, but on this occasion there's also some brilliant suggestions. There's a few I'm looking at thinking I'd be all over it were it released, and that's an increase from 0 from the last couple of selections.
No castle this time? Apparently all designers gave up with that theme after the past few rounds without a castle making it through... (and boy, I really was disappointed by several design not being approved, hopefully they will make or are allowed at the BL program!)
Sariels flip clock definitely, and Jaws maybe.
The “this is fine” one is a scream, never will be made, but it’s hysterical it made it this far lmao
My bets are on the Wright Flyer and Jaws
Uh, oh.... we're gonna need a bigger wallet!
Much better and more varied offering this time. Still lots of hard passes for me but I think that shows how varied lego fans tastes can be.
Roman temple would have me running to the cash machine the most.
The Roman Temple and the London Underground for me, please.
The cypher and flip clock look interesting. The rest are either too similar to other stuff or look like long, boring, repetitive builds (not that that means they won't get made, of course)
Thunderbirds!
I would buy Thunderbird 2 and Jack Skellington's House.
If they produce the architect’s house or the zoo or JAWS I’ll hand over my wallet, my house, my pets and, if need be, take out a loan with loan sharks.
Amazing sets! Hard to pick a favourite but the zoo is a really unique and beautifully executed idea.
Love the Sewer Heroes design. Would definitely buy it.
Cat
Let's have a look at these, and see what might make it to market:
1. ANCIENT ROMAN TEMPLE
Yes. I don't think Lego has ever done any roman stuff apart from CMF. Nice size as well
2. CASTLE DRACULA
Maybe. I don't know how great the appeal is for the count, and if the set needs to be that big.
3. THIS IS FINE
No. I don't see Lego producing meme sets.
4. PAC-MAN MOVING DISPLAY
No. Lego have a hard enough time selling their console-based sets, and Pac-Man isn't appealing enough.
5. PIXAR'S UP HOUSE
Maybe. Those balloons look mighty finnicky, but UP's popular and iconic enough.
6. THE LOST CITY
No. An overgrown house with no minifigs or IP to pull people in. Maybe if it had Johnny Thunder.
7. JAPANESE COURTYARD GARDEN
Maybe. Japan has a massive appeal, but built on a 32x32 baseplate might be too big.
8. THE TRAVEL SUITCASE
Yes. This is awesome, customisable and a good display piece. Probably expensive at this size.
9. BOTW TEMPLE OF TIME
Maybe. Lots of fans of the game, but too big.
10. THE WRIGHT FLYER
No. Lego already has produced a version of this, they'd sooner rerelease that than do one through Ideas.
11. CLASSIC THUNDERBIRDS
Yes. The only one I'd buy on here. There's already one earlier version that passed 10.000, so the demand is there. Personal preference.
Great size as well.
12. JWST
Maybe. Space stuff does well but this one is huge.
13. GOLDEN CLIFFTOP TEMPLE
No. Too big, and too little draw.
14. CIPHER MACHINE
Yes. Interesting and has not been done before. Not too big, and fits in with stuff like the Globe.
15. SEWER HEROES
No. Who wants a static model of fat being sucked without any tie-ins?
16. LONDON UNDERGROUND
Maybe. There's enough train nerds to justify this. Has to be track-compatible though.
17. THE ARCHITECT'S HOUSE
Yes. I can see this in people's existing town layouts, similarly to the old fishing shop.
18. COMMUNITY
No. Another TV show. Yes, it might sell but I'm just sick of seeing these.
19. THE NEVERENDING STORY
Maybe. I have no attachment to the movie, but it seems popular.
20. THE OLD WESTERN TRAIN STATION
Maybe. Western seems popular enough but they might be afraid it's not politically correct.
21. ZOO
No. Seems to be a vehicle for lots of animal moulds, and a zoo might promote animal cruelty
22. JAWS
Maybe. I don't know how popular Jaws is, or how recognizable the set is, but also same as above.
23. MODULAR ARCADE
No. Modulars never get picked.
24. HOUSE OF OPEN SHUTTERS
No. Too close to the A-frame cabin, and not special enough.
25. CAT
Yes. This will sell like hot cakes.
26. LOVER HOUSE
Maybe. How big is the cross-section of Swifties/Lego Fans? The model would need a major redo.
27. JACK SKELLINGTON'S HOUSE
Maybe. The popularity of this movie seems past it's high point to me, but it probably will sell around Halloween and Christmas. I think the fanbase is there.
28. THE CLOCK TOWER PARK
No. I love it, but it's modular-adjacent.
29. THE ALPINE REFUGE
Yes. I can see this in the same vein as the Blacksmith.
30. MECHANICAL FLIP CLOCK
No. As awesome as this is it'll never run reliably.
31. JAPANESE CASTLE
Maybe. Japanese stuff, but it's too big.
32. THE WIZARD'S RETREAT
Maybe. Could ride on the big Castle theme, but could be oversaturated with big stuff by now.
33. WALLACE & GROMIT
No. I personally would love it but the fanbase isn't there.
34. FANTOZZI TAKES THE BUS
No. Too obscure.
35. WILLOW - BATTLE OF TIR ASLEEN
Maybe. I've never heard of this? There's a movie coming out, could capitalize on that if they're quick (they never are).
36. DOGS' FUN PARK
Maybe. People love dogs. Requires a lot of moulds tho.
IN CONCLUSION, all submissions are well built and they all deserve 10.000 votes. But I personally can't see 14 of them being produced, with 15 maybes and 7 yesses.
This is all just my opinion of course, you just might disagree with me on any and all counts!
Jack Skellington's House & Thunderbirds would be my picks but unlikely to make it through. Castle Dracula looks nice but would again be unlikely. I live in hope though for either of my first two choices.
It's pretty clear the £200+ set based on the 1975 Italian comedy 'Fantozzi' will be a big winner for Lego.
Travel suitcase for me or maybe the cat. The beautiful ones are not good to be sets.
Almost all of them are the same and we saw them before, plus licensed stuff as always cause it’s so original…

I'll give you £300 for the wallet and the house. That should cover it. You can keep the pets.
Highly underwhelming collection. Lots of nice MoCs but nothing I can immediately see as being a viable retail set.
Playable dog park's my fave. And no, I am not FrillyBadger, in case anyone is curious.
Thunderbirds and the mechanical clock look good, most of the others are a mixed bag. As much as I enjoyed Community back in the day, do we really need another "sitcom characters sat around a room" set? Also, am I missing something with the guy getting on a bus?
Good range of excellent models. I'd be very happy to see any of:-
London Underground,
Cypher Machine,
Ancient Roman Temple,
Pac-Man Moving Display,
Mechanical Flip Clock
But for me everything else is put in the shade by
Classic Thunderbirds.
Magnificent one off set, and excellent potential for so many spin-offs. Obviously all of the Thunderbirds, plus FAB1, Fireflash, Sidewinder, Crablogger, Sun Probe, an Overhead Monorail, and of course Tracy Island.
Probably a bit biased towards my favourite ever TV programme, but also glad to not see something based on the horrible cartoon version!
Why would anyone want to build or display a dog in a burning house?
The zoo has a lot going on and would build, play and display well.
Jack's house looks like an unusual build.
All the different colored faceless heads in the UP balloon would just freak me out.
Thunderbirds! Thunderbirds!! THUNDERBIRDS!!!
Architect's House and Sariel's Mechanical clock for me, please.
Jaws looks promising. As well as the Roman Temple and the Wild West design.
100% every single one of these shows immense talent and they all look amazing.
But…none of them leap out at me as “oh, that innovative and I need to see that as a LEGO set on a store shelf.”
um... botw anyone?
The clock is the only original thing, that I could see pass. (numbers can be done with tiles on this one if needed)
The Thunderbirds set is a good size too, going microfig scale while having very good detail still (like Saturn V). It does rely on stickers or if lucky prints to look nice however.
Echoing everyone else on Thunderbird 2! It would be the perfect mid-sized Ideas set. I was so bummed when the prior submission was rejected, but if it means going from reboot TB2 to classic then all the better!
The ones I'd most love to see picked (though unlikely picks...):
8. THE TRAVEL SUITCASE: Truly a great IDEA, and executed absolutely amazing!
30. MECHANICAL FLIP CLOCK: So awesome! Only stickers will be an issue....
14. CIPHER MACHINE: I think more likely as a Bricklink set, but very cool nonetheless!
10. THE WRIGHT FLYER: Great piece of history done very well!
27. JACK SKELLINGTON'S HOUSE: Looks amazing, just fear it won't translate well to Lego standards
7. JAPANESE COURTYARD GARDEN: Nice and compact, I like it!
22. JAWS: Only if Bruce could actually explode ;-) Just joking, cool set!
The ones I think have the best shot:
18. COMMUNITY: Rehash of the same idea with just a new IP.
5. PIXAR'S UP HOUSE WITH BALLOONS: Cool
11. CLASSIC THUNDERBIRDS: Not something I'd buy but very well done!
15. SEWER HEROES: FIGHTING THE FATBERG: Great idea, I could see Lego pick something like this!
16. LONDON UNDERGROUND: Well, basically same as the above...
As for the other ones:
1. ANCIENT ROMAN TEMPLE: Looks nice...but would there be a market for this?
2. CASTLE DRACULA: Nice MOC, likely won't translate to a good set
3. THIS IS FINE: This is fine
4. PAC-MAN MOVING DISPLAY: I like it...but maybe the concept is a bit too similar to the Dragon Dance set?
6. THE LOST CITY: Great MOC, but again likely won't translate to a good set
9. BOTW TEMPLE OF TIME: Great MOC, but.....
12. JWST: Looks great as it is, but now imagine it in just bley and (at best) drum laqcuered gold...
13. GOLDEN CLIFFTOP TEMPLE: Great MOC, but....
17. THE ARCHITECT'S HOUSE: Great MOC, but....
19. THE NEVERENDING STORY: Nice
20. THE OLD WESTERN TRAIN STATION: Cool, but more something I'd expect from BlueBrixx
21. ZOO: Great MOC, but....
23. MODULAR ARCADE: Cool interior, but from the outside it looks like it's 75% pizzeria...
24. HOUSE OF OPEN SHUTTERS: Great MOC, but....
25. CAT: I don't trust cats....
26. LOVER HOUSE: Don't know the video, but this build looks rather boring.
28. THE CLOCK TOWER PARK: This might actually be the greatest of the Great MOCs, but....
29. THE ALPINE REFUGE: Again, more something for BlueBrixx
31. JAPANESE CASTLE: I've seen my share of Japanese castles (and other buildings), but never seen anything that looks like this. Pure fantasy material.
32. THE WIZARD'S RETREAT: Looks fine.
33. WALLACE & GROMIT: I wish I would like this a lot more....I don't think minifig scale does this justice.
34. FANTOZZI TAKES THE BUS ON THE FLY: Source material is probably a bit too out there, but this looks great!
35. WILLOW - BATTLE OF TIR ASLEEN: Nice MOC, but....
36. DOGS' FUN PARK - PLAYABLE DOG RUN: I doubt this would sell well, but I absolutely love the inventive mechanisms!
THE ARCHITECT'S HOUSE stands out as the Tree House did a few years ago.
Another vote for Thunderbirds here. It's the single most wanted IP I've ever wanted to see turned into an official Lego set but we'll see.
I feel as a TV IP it's lot less obscure than some of the programmes that Lego Ideas has produced before, certainly in the UK but I could be wrong.
I never buy sets on Day 1 (preferring to wait for discounts) but I could make an exception for this one.
Judging by comments on here and the Lego Ideas blog page, I'm not alone in my support for LEGO Thunderbirds. FAB!
There's going to be a Community movie, right? Perhaps LEGO will release a set to tie in what that. They could even re-name it LEGO I-dean-s in tribute to the Dean's notorious dean puns.

Same here.
I am certain that the ones I like (I'm not even going to mention what my favorites are) will not get chosen.
Just one question, why is the London Underground station building not the classic and immediately recognizable dark red?
@Big_Jarv said:
"Roman temple would have me running to the cash machine the most."
Ah yes... Cash... I think I can remember using that!
Classic Thunderbirds and London Underground would both go on my wish list if produced. Maybe the mechanical clock too, depending on what they did with it.
Favourites are -
15 Sewer Heroes (I've been curious about how to take my City underground..)
16 London Underground (as a west London born kid - riding the tube was a birth right..).
23 Modular Arcade - THIS is what Jazz club should've looked like IMO.
Jaws... I'd buy that
Fantozzi Takes the Bus - Love the design of this too
Does the Neverending Story one come with a swamp of sadness so that Artax can die and mentally screw you ip for the rest of your life?
I'd absolutely love the architect's house or community. I mainly just hope it's not the zoo as that's just the ewok village with a few small add-ons
None of these excite me.
In fact, none of the pending sets are anything special.
I don't even want to buy any LEGO this year, and barely bought any last year; maybe the good times are over.
@CliveyB said:
"Thunderbirds! Thunderbirds!! THUNDERBIRDS!!!"
Why does this remind me more of another Thunder-animal series? ;-)
Thunderbird and Neverending Story are too popular. Fontuzzi is right up Lego’s alley.
36, what an amazing community.
Once again, mostly MOC’s that would not make great sets. But that’s always going to be the case with how the Ideas platform works.
A working Thunderbird 2 with pod launching ability, and a selection of pod vehicles would be a must buy from me. But also the ability to change the pod number so it is accurate to each vehicle.
Many beautiful builds there, as usual.
However, I would only buy the James Webb Space Telescope.
I'm always up for a set with a cool mechanism, so Pac-Man, Cipher Machine, Mechanical Flip Clock, and Dog's Fun Park definitely appeal to me. (Pac-Man also appeals to me because of the IP.) As a huge aviation buff, I'd absolutely love for the Wright Flyer to be a set. The Travel Suitcase would be fun to display next to 75952. I don't see them doing This is Fine, and unlike some commenters, I don't see them saying, "Thunderbirds are Go!" (Which is a reference I'm surprised nobody has made yet.)
@Koentinius: Why would the zoo set promote animal cruelty? Zoos don't do that anymore.
If Temple of Time is the closest we can get to a LEGO church, I'll take it (however unlikely it seems).
My picks would be Community, Jaws and the Roman Temple. Wallace and Gromit is a distant fourth; I grew up on those shorts and still love them, but I'm not sure the fan concept does it justice. Clock Tower also looks great, but seems unlikely to be made.
@TheOtherMike said:
" @Koentinius: Why would the zoo set promote animal cruelty? Zoos don't do that anymore."
However big you make the cages, you're still caging an animal. To be fair, they're also doing good work preserving endangered species. But I was mostly reasoning from Lego's perspective, and how they'd probably want to avoid the discussion altogether.
How many times has the up house made the cut and been rejected now? I don't get why they continuously refuse it. Also, didn't Lego say the Zelda ip will no longer be accepted?
I have to agree with others comments that Lego has a history of poor choices recently. I'm not hopeful they will made good choices anymore ;(
I would buy a “THIS IS FINE” dog. I’d also love a JAWS set but wouldn’t want to pay for anything very large, like the model shown.
Other than that, I don’t see how any of these are getting made. It’s the same as almost every Ideas review:
- IP is too obscure
- IP is unavailable for whatever reason
- Set is a “no-go” like a modular-style building
- Set is just too big
How many Zelda projects have been rejected at this point? Sometimes I wish people would take the hint…
I like the suitcase one; it’s a clever idea and feels genuinely different to other things Lego already does which I feel should be the point of Ideas
Hopefully This Is Fine will win. It perfectly sums up Lego's pricing department.
A pity only one or two will be selected. Are the ones that are not selected able to re-apply?
@MegaBlocks said:

A meme theme could be massive. It's a super idea. Endless possibilities. I guess they would need to include some letters too.
In terms of form and potential affordability, I think the Japanese garden is the best bet. Most of these are massive and gonna cost hundreds of £€¥$
Standard Ideas batch these days - some clearly far too big, so likely pointless, some far too niche, and a few that would be great to get and therefore aren't worth getting my hopes up for!
Personally the only must-have is Thunderbirds, but they've already rejected that once so I'm not sure they agree...
Personally hoping for the JWST and, though it will never happen, the BOTW set.
The zoo uses WAY too much of the 2013 Ewok Village. The designer said they used it for a quick start, but when you compare it looks lazy. I feel an IDEAS set should have more time and care into it.
Link to the set if you want comparison: (You can still see the trapdoor function there!): 10236
Don't really see any of the others, it's kind of a guess currently.
Fantozzi? Seriously? I mean, it's a well done model and my congratulations to the designer, but I hate the series so much I'll stop buying Lego products for a year if they dare make this.
Give me the Neverending set instead.
I really think Lego should exclude licensed sets. Only original ideas.
A lot of nice sets, but I can't see most of these ever being produced commercially. People will buy a $500+ set of a Star Wars ship or famous landmark, but I don't think they'd sell many copies of a random building, no matter how nice it looks.
I would 100% pickup Community and Jaws. Ancient Roman Temple looks great too.
The ones that appeal to me are the Japanese garden and castle, though they would both need to be downsized. Also the alpine chalet looks great.
Enough with the TV show nonsense. Perhaps appeals to the minifig collector crowd, though i dont know why. Theyre just generic unless it happens to be your favorite show ever.
You have to wonder when Lego will just outright make a Zelda set or theme themselves, I think soon pretty much of every major Breath of the Wild location will have made it to the Ideas review stage. X-D
Lots of good stuff in here! I think I'll be happy with whatever passes. Especially since my expectations have been lowered dramatically at this point... but who knows? Last time we got surprised with four winners.
There are more Thunderbirds fans on here than I would have expected - splendid!
A big thumbs up from me for the Thunderbirds project but I fear that its appeal might not be broad enough.
:-(
That said, we can hope....
Some great creations, and huge congratulations to all the designers for getting them this far.
I'm torn on Thunderbirds, I love it, but if it passes then there's no chance for a followup set with an official Thunderbird 5, so it disappoints me. Most of the others don't appeal to me and seem like rather specialist interests.
Looking at them all, I suspect Lego will select just one - the life-size cat. It's unlicensed, an interesting build, and totally different to anything Lego have done before in the Ideas lineup, thus making it the perfect candidate.
Well, if the dreadful BTS set can pass then the Lover House must be a certainty. Both look like they were built by a six-year old but the target fan-base is massive.
Honestly, I can see "This Is Fine" selling very well. A perfect display piece for every desk. That's the first Brickhead-like thing I've ever seen that I would buy for myself and give as a gift. It does need a speech bubble though.
The Cipher Machine is also quite neat. I can see my kids being very busy with that even if you can't customize the code too much and that one selling well. The rest all seem a bit too niche or just way too big. Spectacular, but too big.

It's not an "idea" in any way. It's simply a choice with no creativity involved whatsoever. Like with every IP-based submission.
Good luck for the participants
Sets i’ll think of getting if they’ll get released: This is Fine, Community, Jaws and Neverending Story (i’ll have to rewatch it, because well the 80ies were a long time ago)
Sets with potential that i like: Roman Temple, Architect House
These are fine.
In my memory, they made a Hubble Telescope set, although it's not in the brickset database, so it seems I'm wrong.
But I think that the James Webb Telescope has a chance, at least. Out of this mediocre selection, I think it's one of the less so.
Dear Lego, here's a thing that I like. Please make me a set containing this IP.
Also, we like cats, make us something to do with cats.
@Randomness said:
"In my memory, they made a Hubble Telescope set, although it's not in the brickset database, so it seems I'm wrong."
Space Shuttles 7470 and 10283 both included one, it seems.
EDIT 21312 Women of NASA also has one.
It's absurd that we haven't gotten a Lego Zelda set (or theme) already, but perhaps there's one in the works (hence why it isn't allowed for submissions anymore). I don't think any other existing IP has even managed to come close to getting rejected as many times as Zelda has (this is what, the sixth or seventh time?).
If they start making memes... Nyan Cat? This would be fine.
Castle Dracula and The Old Western Train Station are gorgeous! Will be keeping my credit cards crossed.
One of these days, people will realize they aren't making a Zelda castle, and stop submitting them.
"This is fine" is hilarious, and a nice build for what it is, but I don't see it making the cut. I like the idea of the Roman temple, but it needs something else to really make it stand out.
The UP house is the only thing that looks cool. Everything else is meh in my opinion except the arcade, but we all know that Lego ideas won’t produce a modular building….

right, same as the TV show sets as well, the furniture is interesting, but other than that its just stacking bricks, studs on top. i guess its okay that theres sets for adults who dont actually like lego, as long as they keep making interesting things too. But yeah, the bts and swift sets do remind me of something id have been very proud of as a little kid.
None. Too many are waaaaay too big.
I'll be honest - there are a lot of good ones. Of course, any modular or Disney ones won't be selected.
OG Willow, Dracula, and the cat are pretty sweet. Still wish Bonkle had made it.
Japanese Castle, not enough of these.
There are a lot of nice sets this time around. I would expect the Cipher Machine and/or the Clock to make it through since they fit the spirit of what an Ideas set should be. But I wouldn't buy either although the Cipher Machine is very nice looking.
The Up House doesn't stand a chance when we already know one is being released this year.
The Taylor Swift thing is hideous, looks like something I might have thrown together when I was a child if that many colors had been available 50+ years ago.
I'm not about to,pick a favorite since my choices rarely get chosen so I'll just wait and see.
Flip clock and architects house are the only sets I'd even consider. Just not an interesting lineup.
I love the zoo.
My top ones would be Travel Suitcase, London Underground & Sewer Heroes but I'd be surprised if they are picked.
If Jaws gets selected…I’ll…I’ll…I don’t know what I’ll actually DO, but I will be in total shock.
Happy, but in total shock.
Overall really nice looking designs. My favorites are the Cypher, it works to code and decode messages, my kids would have loved this, The Architect, sleek modern design looks nice, Cat, it has such nice shaping. I also like Pixar's Up, great balloon with a cute house, Jacks's house, and Pac-man.
I'm also interested in the flip clock--but historically, have mechanical contraptions had a lot of success with Ideas? I love seeing the innovation, but I've gotten used to sitcoms and pop-culture objects swamping such creations out. There's some beautiful work here as always, but few I'd say I'd actually purchase if it were to be made.
So many great ideas here, (besides one) but Thunderbirds is easily my favorite. I also like the cat, probably one of the best brick built animals ive seen. PLEASE Lego for the love of all that simply exists DO NOT pick that one...

Yes, Fantozzi. Seriously. Comically. Beautifully. Ingeniously. Cleverly. Absolutely.
Fantozzi: the quintessence of comedy and tragedy that bring all our worst contradictions afloat. I wasn't even aware about Nastronauta's excellent submission, and gladly surprised it reached the 10k mark with a very local, all-Italian movie series of the 70's. Miracles can happen. And if Fantozzi will miraculously reach the shelves, I'll make sure and buy all the Lego you'll have rejected in disgust.
Love the London tube and the Sewer set, too.
I know a lot of people are burnt out on sitcom sets, but Yvette Nicole Brown, who plays Shirley in Community, is a massive LEGO fan, so I’d absolutely love for her to have an official LEGO version of herself! I’d also like a brickbuilt cat set.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the amount of support for Thunderbirds in these comments so Lego need to take note. The playability of the vehicles from this programme (and most of the other ones produced by Gerry Anderson) make them ideal toys, not just for fans of the originals but for children who have never even seen them. A theme based on Gerry Anderson, not just Thunderbirds, would be superb whether people know the shows or not. At the time this idea was gathering support, there was a link sent by the official Anderson website encouraging members to vote for it so there is no question Lego could obtain the licence if they asked for it. Fans want it, and the licence holder wants it, so it just remains to be seen if Lego want it.
For all those who say some of these are nice MOCs but not good sets, what exactly do you see as the difference between the two? Since most builders of Ideas sets build them for display the difference clearly is not concerned with the set's play value. So why is a good looking MOC building not considered a good set?
From 2022's 1st review I supported 10 of the 39 submissions. They chose four of which I intend to buy one.
In the 2nd review I supported 23 of the 51, of which I would probably buy nine if they produced them. Most of those nine are modulars or other buildings so very unlikely to be chosen. The one which could is the cats.
In this last review I supported 15 of the 37 (Holiday Village w/Train mysteriously disappeared) of which I would perhaps buy five. As always for me most are buildings so only Thunderbirds is left. If that isn't chosen then another round passes with no sets to buy.
Isn't this the 2nd time a BOTW Temple of Time set has made it to the review stage?
I thought Lego sent out a notice saying they won't accept Zelda themed sets anymore.

Lego sets are designed according different standards than MOC designers generally use. A set should be easy to build even for someone with no experience with Lego whatsoever, and it should be nearly indestructible. And they should be able to actually sell it, so probably reduce the size and piece count quite a bit in the process.
It's just very unlikely to get anything like the original submission as the final product. Just look at the Medieval Blacksmith as a perfect example of this. Or more recently, the Jazz Quartet.

It's actually misleading, because there's a very strong bias due to the community you're talking to. We're talking about people who like classic space designs more than modern ones. People who grew up on Blacktron and want nothing else back. Thunderbirds was broadcast at the same time, so the people defending it speak out of nostalgia, without taking into account how poorly Thunderbirds has aged. Even when I was a kid, it was too old already. It would be a huge risk for Lego to venture into that kind of thing, they'd have to test out with kids first before going for a full series. Did the reboot series make it worth an investment, 3 years after it ended?

"Good range of excellent models. I'd be very happy to see any of:-
London Underground,
Cypher Machine,
Ancient Roman Temple,
Pac-Man Moving Display,
Mechanical Flip Clock
But for me everything else is put in the shade by
Classic Thunderbirds.
Magnificent one off set, and excellent potential for so many spin-offs. Obviously all of the Thunderbirds, plus FAB1, Fireflash, Sidewinder, Crablogger, Sun Probe, an Overhead Monorail, and of course Tracy Island.
Probably a bit biased towards my favourite ever TV programme, but also glad to not see something based on the horrible cartoon version!"
Honestly the cartoon wasn't half bad, the soundtrack is obviously where all the budget went, however the vehicle designs are also pretty good, id love to see some of those new pod vehicles (that dragonfly looking thing and the green 6 legged walker from that one tanker-on-mountain episode. Crab logger also makes an appearance. Other CGI was ropey to say the least though.
Cmon lego just give us lego thunderbirds. I feel like its one of those underground pop culture things that only comes up if it is presented, like this. Barley hear anything about thunderbirds (new or old) until the ideas lego project comes up and now suddenly half the people here are fans. I aint complaining! Take the shot lego!
Honestly I wouldn't mind sets for all the new thunderbirds, Thunderbird 1 has an interesting landing mechanism id love to see, Thunderbird 2 could have pod 4 with TB4, with the double claws that fold away, TB2 could have the drop down elevator and maybe that drop down cable gun, the pod vehicle assembly pod could be its own set so you could swap it out. Would be very modular. thunderbird 3 could have the 3 grasping arms/claws that fold out from the engine base, and id love to see a rotating cockpit and the drill at the front, and the cargo bay be somewhat openable. TB 5 would probably be the least feasible, as it doesnt have many 'major' functions, although I could see the mooring claw and the rocket backpack be included, plus the rotating gravity ring. Its typically hard to build something that isn't made for gravity, in gravity.
Again, so much they could do. Would love to see it
Thinderbirds would make a beautiful playset, Jack Skellington’s house is unique and Jaws is a classic. Others, while designed very nicely, do not interest me.
I just checked out the lover house over on Ideas and read a sentence describing Taylor Swift as "the songwriter of our generation" PLEASE Lego NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! I need rinse my eyes with sewage after reading that! No Lego!! You cant! I wont let you! Please pick ANYTHING other than that ugly abomination, even the internationally acclaimed 1975 Italian comedy Fantozzi set! Please Lego Im BEGGING you I already had three minor heart attacks just from the bts set getting chosen and I havent even seen it in real life yet! NOOOOOO!!!!! I know itll sell like hotcakes, but you cant do that. no. no. no. The fing "songwriter of our generation"!!! Im almost crying laughing right now. This has to be one of the WORST ideas of ALL TIME! Lego, I will not buy any of your products ever again if you pick that set. (Ok I totally will, not buying Lego because of one set is just stupid) And yes this is mostly a lousy attempt at humor but Im serious when I say that I loathe that "idea" Lego should completely ban all such sets that easily defeat actual talent simply because its easy to sell junk like that to the brainwashed-by-pop 21st century youth. No. And once again for good measure: "Taylor Swift is the songwriter of our generation" Im going away now Im in a bad mood... Also, rip Wallace and Gromit, an underrated masterpiece.
Community set, YES! I love the idea.
Wallace and Gromit needs to happen. I grew up watching "Curse of the Wererabbit", and have just discovered the old shorts a few days ago. The one with the robot on the moon really got me thinking... Sure, it ends on a high note: the coin-operated robot is skiing on the moon, but what happens when his timer runs down and he crashes into a million bits?!? Whose gonna put him back together again and give him a coin for his slot? Who puts a coin operated robot on the moon ANYWAY!?!
Wallace and Gromit have raised more questions than answers!

The Classic space sets which people love are from the 80s, Thunderbirds was made in the mid-60s. The fact that the submission has gained adequate support almost 60 years later shows it is driven by more than just nostalgia as most people who voted for weren't even alive then. The original programme is clearly dated now but the ship designs generally aren't, and that is what the toys are based on. As I said, the ships make fantastic toys, whether people know the programme or not. If Lego accepted it this review it could be released in time for the 60th anniversary. As much as I would like a theme based on Gerry Anderson's output, just this one set for the anniversary year would be most welcome and very popular. It is an iconic vehicle, known far beyond the confines the programme.
the Roman temple, the Japanese garden, and the clock tower...they are the best

Granted, the cartoon probably wasn't that appalling, just that physical models and 'Supermarionation' was so, so, so much better!

Lego sets are designed according different standards than MOC designers generally use. A set should be easy to build even for someone with no experience with Lego whatsoever" clearly not the case for many Ideas sets, The piano and typewriter are perfect examples. Both challenging even for experienced builders. "and it should be nearly indestructible." several sets are infamous for being fragile, including the UCS Millennium Falcon which is hailed as one of Lego's finest sets. "And they should be able to actually sell it, so probably reduce the size and piece count quite a bit in the process." size is no object to selling a set as the rapidly increasing list of sets with over, say 3000 pieces, proves.
"It's just very unlikely to get anything like the original submission as the final product. Just look at the Medieval Blacksmith as a perfect example of this. Or more recently, the Jazz Quartet." This is true but more of an issue with the Lego designers rather than the submitter. Remember most of the best Lego designers don't actually work for Lego. Ideas proves that year after year. Perhaps that is why so few are chosen in each review.

That was what, 20 years ago? Lego has released multiple sets based on the same concept before. We’ve had multiple Maersk ships, two VW Beetles, space shuttles, and a new Eiffel Tower only a few weeks ago. If your point is “Lego won’t make it because it’s been made before,”your argument has no weight
What is with all those question marks for DOGS' FUN PARK - PLAYABLE DOG RUN??????? and WILLOW - BATTLE OF TIR ASLEEN???????
My favorites of this round:
2. Castle Dracula ... wonderful details and nice size
11. Classic Thunderbirds ... superb as an idea, looking forward to seeing LEGO's treatment of it
14. Cipher Machine ... this concept is what Ideas is meant to be
20. The Old Western Train Station ... nice color choices, I'd pull the trigger even if it's just the station
30. Mechanical Flip Clock ... another concept that's pure Ideas, I have a Panasonic mechanical flip clock circa 1976 (aka The Groundhog Day Flip Clock RC-6025) that's been running continuously since I got it and still keeps time perfectly
36. Dogs' Fun Park - Playable Dog Run ... cool play-feature concepts, unique idea
@Doctor_Hugh ,
To every rule there are a few exceptions. But that doesn't change the fact that most Ideas sets get a rather strong overhaul by the Lego designers before they are released. And I do see a bit of pattern there: if it's a great *IDEA*, the Lego designers tend to make it better. If it's a great MOC, it often ends up worse.
As for the big sets, I don't think it's a coincidence that the vast majority of the truly big Lego sets are either based on some major IP, or on some iconic building or vehicle known by about everyone on the planet. No matter how great some of those MOCs are, how many people are gonna pay, say, €400 for such a set?
Of course they are now doing the Bricklink Designer Program, which to me seems a lot like a way to release sets that don't really fit the Lego standards to a much smaller audience. Quite a few of those perfectly fit that "Great MOC, probably not a great set"-bill.
Kinda rooting for the Sewer Heroes one, if only for the "huh?" factor!
Personally hoping the Mystery Shack will pop up here again someday.

No. Who wants a static model of fat being sucked without any tie-ins?"
Hah that's one way of putting it. But this design speaks to those of us interested in underground architecture. There's a whole hidden world of construction under our feet and it's underrepresented in Lego. But this design nicely connects the visible world with the hidden.

A big thumbs up from me for the Thunderbirds project but I fear that its appeal might not be broad enough.

That said, we can hope...."
Would be interested (a lot) in Thunderbirds but it would have to be at minifig scale. This means, each craft would have to be a separate set. The whole thing would have to become a theme really . Bird 2 and 3 would be huge and that's how we like it! Bird 5 would probably not be done due to size - or would have to be like a HP castle that you buy multiple parts and add them together for a giant final result (Zero-X would also be a problem due to size). Lego could however do all the pod vehicles and the pink FAB 1. Chances of this happening < 0.0000001% (roughly).
While there are many good entries, of this list I would consider the Wright Flyer. I also like the clock but since this can be considered a modular, it has most likely disqualified itself already (Lego should really do a modular 'park' one day).
Even as a 'Space' freak ('Lego Classic Space' or real space) I have very little inclination towards JWST at that scale.
As much as I like Sariel, if Lego is ever to do an Technic Ideas, I hope it would be for something more involved than that. The snow groomer they had was neat. Even better would have been the pneumatic 'steam' locomotive recently discarded - that would have been such a 'different' lego Technic set - that was an incredibly good opportunity wasted.
To me the most likely to either (1) being made as Ideas or (2) the idea being stolen and still being made as another theme is: the cat - which I would consider. I think someone else had an idea like that recently that also got 10k.
We'd buy the underground set, and I'd like the cipher set. I'd like the sewer heroes too.. Maybe an Underground Theme!
I think the problem with the Ideas program is that LEGO is using it to get new ideas from a different perspective, to see what's in the heads of their fans. But people are using it to vote for well-presented MOCs, as they simply click "like" on whatever cool stuff they see in whatever media. Most things that make it to 10'000 votes look really nice, because they are massive and incredibly detailed models. And that is what people like. They would never actually buy that, because it would be way too expensive, but it is what will generate likes.
I don't know how to fix that flaw in the system, or if it actually needs to be fixed, but I think it is constantly making a lot of people disappointed. Many will vote for projects that doesn't even pass the first stage. Those that vote for a set that makes it through will rarely be able to buy the set they voted for. Not never, but rarely. Most often it will just be a similar, simpler model based on the same idea, which isn't what most people vote for. LEGO just wants the idea, but people vote for the actual models.
I like the travel suitcase, and I think it's not unrealistic to hope it might make it through
The Japanese garden and castle I like as well, but pretty sure those won't make it. Same with the zoo, I'm not sure if Lego want face pro/anti-zoo arguments.
The rest are nice projects, but not to my taste....
Like some of the other posters above, I feel like Ideas needs a revamp. It's my favourite theme and has produced some great sets, but the majority of submissions now are either random licenses, huge mocs, or just unlikely to be chosen....
I absolutely need Jack's house. I try to ignore Ideas sets because they never make the ones I like but they REALLY need to make Jack's house.
Definitely Thunderbirds for me. C’mon Lego just do it (please) :)
Take a shot when Zelda, Thunderbirds, and Nightmare Before Christmas don’t get a set (again).
There are some very creative models here, but the only ones I see getting approved currently are Wright Flyer, Lover House, or Community set. None of which I would actually buy.
The Architect's House and Japanese Courtyard Garden (Maybe with 2 walls instead of 3) both seem like nice "adult" display pieces that I think would appeal to a lot of people who aren't traditionally into Lego.
I'm quite a fan of the temple too, and there's a lot of nice stuff here but most of it seems TOO high detail to go anywhere, too niche a subject matter, or just... License nostalgia.
I only NEED the THUNDERBIRDS
Thunderbirds, Cipher Machine and Jaws. So I can look forward to Lego approving Japanese Garden or Community and keeping my money.
It is my understanding that the Neverending Story submission (19) has now been pulled due to copyright issues. Somebody might want to confirm.
I'm repeating my hopes for a Nightmare Before Christmas submission because we need to get a new Jack now that the longer arms and legs have been revived.
There are so many in here that should be released!
Wright Brothers I think is both the best one here, and the one most likely to actually get made.
Some of these are good but too niche or too complex.
"This is Fine" made me laugh but no way are they ever going to make it.
