Friends Advent Calendar - Day 24
Posted by MeganL,
It's the day we've been waiting for - Christmas Eve! We've had a good assortment of builds in this calendar, all building toward a cosy scene at Paisley's house. What will we finish with on our last day?
It's a snow cat! For all I've been complaining about the lack of outdoor activities, apparently Paisley and Olly have been busy building a snow cat outside. While it's not Santa, or Dreadflipper an ice penguin sculpture, this is a very nice figure. I like how the markings on the face of the cat show that sticks are used for the whiskers and mouth, and could that be a carrot for a nose?
Time to take a look at the scene on the play mat. As predicted, inside is a little cramped, and there was a bit of a mystery as to where to place the kitchen equipment. However, it does all fit!
They've been very patient for the last three plus weeks, but the sloths have had a good time with this calendar as well.
Overall thoughts
This has been a solid Friends calendar. I really like how it was focused on one of the Friends' families and created a very nice holiday scene. There were some really good parts usage in this calendar - I particularly liked the sewing machine on Day 15, the train on Day 16 and the stand mixer of Day 17. Of course, who can forget the toilet paper thrower on Day 10? The minidolls were all excellent, especially meeting Rose on Day 12. I think today's figure was quite good as well.
Thank you for accompanying me on my ninth Friends calendar! As always, I've enjoyed the builds, the minidolls, and your comments. Especially your comments - sometimes they made me laugh out loud.
Merry Christmas!!

I expected someone in a Santa costume. But I understand now that that's not what this calender is about. This is one last thing they created together.
I must say... this calender has been lovely. The builds in and of themselves have been lovely, but the best part is that they were cohesive. Seeing the end result, it looks exactly what I'd like to see from an advent calender. Just a cozy scene with varied objects to depict christmas.
I used to have some of the builds of an old City calender which I put up as decoration. This year I bought the whole calender from that year. Some of the builds were a bit peripheral, but the basics of a christmas scene was still there. Every year I had been comparing calenders to that one and they all didn't quite do it. This year's Friends calender did it BETTER.
In a comment earlier this month I read that apparently Paisley's mother might have her last Christmas here, and it kind of moves me. The scene just looks right for what might be one of the best memories someone has of a loved one. I know it's just plastic knick-knacks, but idk, the concept moves me and makes this something special precisely because all the subject matter has been done so well.
^ Every year is a step closer to making Dreadflipper actual Lego canon.
It worked for Jedi Bob!
Playing-up to the crazy Christmas commentators. I'm here for it! Yea Megan!
This has been a truly beautiful calendar, and a fun month! Thank you for all your reviewing, MeganL! Merry Christmas all!
The fact that this might be one of paisley’s last memories with her mom just makes this advent calendar even more wholesome and sad
I'd highlight (highlight, like yesterday's gifts!) Rose, the fireplace, the snowcat, the train, and the story/scene is beautiful.
Am I the only one who was disappointed to find that _none_ of the sloths are hanging on the back wall, which is full of holes?
Of course, the best way to defeat a dread bird of ice is with a cat of snow!

If you were before, you're not now...

One who apparently has the Tesseract, no less. Must have stolen it from a Marvel calendar.
This was my first time buying a Friends calendar, and although I'm way outside of the target demographic for this line, I had a lot of fun with it! Part of that may have been because Paisley is my favorite character in the show, but overall it was a really well rounded calendar without any days that stood out as being very weak.
Dang that little kitty for today is cute!!! I'll have to keep an eye out for one of these calendars in the post Christmas sales just for this guy!!
Finally, the sloths I've been waiting for! And a snow cat! What a great end to the calendar. Thank you as always Megan (and Capn), I love getting to open these advent calendars vicariously through your posts every December, it's a highlight of my year. Can't wait for 2025 !
