Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 14
Posted by CapnRex101,
We received our fourth Hogwarts student and plinth yesterday, which should mean a fourth animal statue arrives on day fourteen, like with the previous three.
Hopefully, this one is better than the others...
Ravenclaw's house animal differs between the books and the movies, as either an eagle or a raven, respectively. This model could represent either, although the printed Ravenclaw tile on the plinth more closely resembles a raven. Regardless, I find this statue the most attractive of the four, accurately resting on a sphere and featuring a distinct beak and talons.
As usual, the statue connects to yesterday's plinth and I like this whole assembly. These items have divided opinion and most have been notably abstract, although I appreciate the designer finding a relatively obscure feature from the Great Hall in the films and recreating them for this Advent Calendar.
Overall - This is my favourite of the four house statues, but they are inherently repetitive, so I am glad this will be the last one.

Clearly, it's a kingfisher. 40065
So far I am really enjoying this advent calendar. After we receive this last house table(which I would expect to come tomorrow), I really have no clue what the remaining items will be. Looking forward to the rest of the days!

Yeah, but I got the bigger kingfisher 10331
This is definitely the best statue of the 4 and I think the statues have been the most interesting thing about htis advent calendar, the rest of which has seemed fairly disppointing. This one really does look like a bird! My favorite day so far.
Yes!! Here's hoping we go somewhere interesting!

Oorrrrrrrbbbbb!!!
But seriously, the orb really elevates this compared with the other statues.
At least this one to me clearly looks like a bird. More like a raven than like an eagle. Which I appreciate.
Adding my voice to the choir that this is the best of the bunch. Maybe birds are just more distinctive so more easily replicated at the smaller scale? Because this and to a certain extent the snake definitely came out of this better than the lion and badger
They saved the best for last. It helps that it already has wings, which weirdly makes it the only one who doesn't have them splayed. The sphere makes it more statue-like.
So overall, this is a good one.
Now I really wonder what they all look like together.
"the printed Ravenclaw tile on the plinth more closely resembles a raven"
The printed Ravenclaw tile on the plinth more closely resembles an eagle.
And it is bronze. Bronze is the book color, where the symbol is an eagle.

So it's Dreadflipper disguised as a statue of a kingfisher!

The symbol absolutely more closely resembles a raven. The beak is the obvious indication.

Put wings on enough House statues and you’re bound to eventually get one of them right?
@CapnRex101:
No, @Yooha is correct. The print on the Ravenclaw tile is absolutely bronze (technically copper, I think). Hufflepuff and Slytherin got silver crests on the tiles included with the minifigs, while Ravenclaw and Gryffindor got copper.

Right you are, it is copper. It looked silver to me under studio lighting. Nonetheless, it is a raven.

Oh, yeah, never would I mistake that long beak for an eagle. Theirs are hooked, to allow them to tear into prey. The wings and claws, I feel are too stylized to really match either bird, so it really does come down to the beak.

You are right about the beak. The color is still weird. As I remember, LEGO sets tend to follow the movies, not the books.

That's just what he wants us to think, to lure us into a false sense of security.

"That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die."
